August 2023 Surgery Buddies!
Jessi2023 replied to kayhay0714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got back from my pre-op class and feel much better. I have to say my clinic seems to be doing a very good job of making sure you are well educated and giving you all the support you need. They will test your vitamin levels every 6 months for life and want to keep following you for 5 years. Having them tested is key to me, because its important to know if what you are doing is working. I'm chronically low on Vit D, and I've had doctors test me, see I'm low and tell me to take supplements with no follow-up. Guess what? The level of supplementation wasn't cutting it, I needed a higher dose. So I'm really glad they are proactive about that. 4 days to go! -

August 2023 Surgery Buddies!
Jessi2023 replied to kayhay0714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my family (Mom, brothers, sisters-in-law). I am not telling anyone at work. Some friends know. One of my SIL is a dietician and she was very negative on it, more because she's worried about the malabsorption factor. But she also is skinny and has never struggled with her weight, even having 2 kids. She's never understood how hard it is for someone whose genes and body are fighting against them. (She never worked as a dietician for overweight people, she worked in nursing homes planning diets and in a school lunch program. She would be terrible in a weight loss program - the super skinny dietician who says 'just eat less') My brothers and I all married naturally skinny people and we are all overweight, except maybe the dietician's husband less so because she scolds him - he still eats terribly when she isn't looking. -

Best Vanilla Protein that isn’t Premier
Jessi2023 replied to Shanna NYC's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I like the Body Fortress vanilla powder. That brand was on the recommended list from my dietician. -
Oh, I've never heard of this before! I am pre-op and even pre-op I can't seem to drink the required amount. Part of my problem is I can only drink water ice cold and that makes it harder to track because of the ice, etc. I'll have to check this out.

Scar Tissue From Previous Abdominal Surgeries
Jessi2023 replied to Midwest Grateful's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hope your surgery went well yesterday! This is one of my biggest fears. I had a hysterectomy 2.5 years ago and had to have a big abdominal incision because I had too much scar tissue on my cervix to remove the uterus (and the massive fibroids) through the vagina. The surgery also took 3.5 hours instead of two because I had so much scar tissue. This was likely from my previous c/sections. I am hoping that the scar tissue is all lower down and won't cause problems for the RNY. I really can't do the sleeve instead because I have severe GERD. -
Depressed before surgery
Jessi2023 replied to MasonMoonGirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just wanted to say, as depressing as it was, kudos to you for sticking to your guns and avoiding problematic situations during your pre-op diet! Social situations and peer pressure are on of the most difficult to deal with, pat yourself on the back for it! -

When the surgery was further out, it was fine, but now that I'm less than a week away the waiting is driving me crazy! I just want to get it over with and move on to the next step! -

I am also have been dxed with Barrett's and am partially doing this to solve my GERD issues. Fingers crossed that this will help with some of the issues I have that we think are GERD related (chronic cough, chronic sinus infections, post nasal drip, etc) -
