  1. Thanks Tek, that’s why my post wasn’t about weight loss.
  2. Thank you everyone for your responses.
  3. Thank you Kathy. For me food has always been about culture. My family would fry and add bacon to everything. We make a fresh vegetable and add bacon. Trick myself into thinking it was healthy cause it was a vegetable. I went shopping to prepare for my puréed stage and made sure to buy low sodium and salt alternative. I’m really committed to a lifestyle change. I know it won’t be easy because I’ve eaten unhealthy most of my life, but I’m willing to put in the work.
  4. Hi Jonathan, they did. Liquids until my first phase change on 8/22. I wanted to start a couple days early and wondered if it was safe? Not hungry, just anxious to start on a weekend and not a weekday just in case I get sick. At least I’ll be home and not at work. I’ve seen others on the board start much sooner then 20 days, which is where I will be on 8/22 when I have my appointment.
  5. So, I am 17 days post op. I haven’t weighed myself since my first post op appointment. Surgery was 8/2 and post op was 8/7. Waiting for my phase change appointment next week when they weigh me. I just wanted to share the changes I’ve seen in my health in such a short time. I had annoying eczema on my elbows. That has completely healed. No more elbow itching. My ankles and feet are no longer swollen after my walk and the sciatic nerve that has been bothering me since March doesn’t exist. I know for a lot of us, maybe, I don’t want to offend anyone and assume, losing weight has been key. For me it has always been my health and increased energy. I am a black woman and most of the people on my mothers side of the family have diabetes. I’m terrified of getting diabetes, which prompted me to look into weight lose surgery. I feel great. The weight lost is an added bonus. My husband keeps telling me I have a fresh start, I recognize that. I am so excited about eating to live and not living to eat. Now, I can’t wait to get rid of these HBP pills. Kay

    7 days post op

I only lost 5 lbs by my first post appointment 7 days out. I’m 17 days out now. I know I’ve lost more based on the way my clothes fit but I haven’t weighed myself yet. Waiting for my phase change appt next week.

    Multivitamins

I use a patch. It has all the vitamins we need and it was recommend by my doctor. You can get them from Amazon.
  8. I’ll make this quick. I am 17 days post op. I see the dietician on 8/22. 4 days away. Zero complications after the surgery. I’m still on liquids. I’ve read other ppl are on puréed phase after like 10 days…etc. I’d like to start before Tuesday. I’m not hungry, just tired of only water and protein drinks. Thoughts. I have a feeling what most posters will say but wanted to put the question out there…lol Thanks!
  9. I am now 4 days post op. No pain and no nausea. I walked a lot the night after the surgery and the morning before I left the hospital. I didn’t experience the gas pains I read a lot about. Two days out and I was able to walk a mile. I enjoy walking. I’m not hungry at all but I miss real food. Forcing myself to drink water and these protein drinks. They tasted better when I didn’t have to drink them. I bought chicken broth to use with the protein soups, that seems to help a bit with the taste. Otherwise, already I’ve noticed a change in the way my clothes are fitting me. I have not gotten on the scale yet. My plan is to wait until my first phase change, which is 8/22.

Hi All - My name is Kay. I am scheduled for my gastric sleeve surgery on 8/2. If I am not mistaken, I started the process in the first week of June. I never considered WLS because I never considered myself obese. I guess I was fooling myself. No one in my family is overweight; however, most have diabetes and HBP. I have HBP and am pre-diabetic. I went to see the gastro doctor out of curiosity. The appointment was an hour long. I met with a dietician, an insurance navigator, and a nurse practitioner. This was the first time I heard my weight out loud. I usually turn away from the numbers on the scale and instruct the person taking my weight not to tell me. I just usually guessed my weight. I was off about 40 pounds. BMI of 40. The insurance navigator told me that I would get approved and that my insurance did not have any pre-surgery requirements. I met with the nurse practitioner, she gave me a list of to-do items, and I was off to the races. I am excited. I look forward to having more energy, being more active, getting rid of my HBP medication, and eating to live instead of living to eat. I was a bit apprehensive about joining a WL forum because I did not want to see negative reviews and complications. I am glad I came to this site. It is full of information and people like me. Congrats to those who have had their surgery, and good luck to those who are scheduled.
  13. Mine was about two months. My insurance did not have any requirements. My surgeon had clearance requirements, such as my cardiologist, dietician, psychiatrist, and pulmonologist. My surgeon did my stomach x-ray, psych eval and Upper Endoscopy. I could have had my surgery sooner, but I was so shocked that it happened so quickly that I decided on a later surgery date. Scheduled for 8/2. Started my 10-day all-liquid diet yesterday.
  14. Scheduled for 8/2. Excited and nervous.
