  1. I had my RNY in September 2023. The day before my surgery, I took a tailor's tape and measured my neck, chest, belly, waist, hips, thigh and calf. I've reached a loss of 165 lbs and took those same measurements again on the weekend (in inches); Neck 17 -> 14.5 = -2.5 Chest 52 -> 44 = -8 Belly 57.5 -> 44 = -13.5 Waist 47 -> 39 = -8 Hips. 51.5. -> 41 = -10.5 Thigh 32 -> 24 = -8 Calf 18.5 -> 16.5 = -2 Total inches lost: 52.5 That's almost 4 1/2 FEET. I am currently about 20 lbs short of my goal.
  2. Me again. My ex- and still incredibly close friend and I went out this past Saturday, going a Costco run before she cancelled her membership, then we hit up a thrift store. There, already now wearing a 36" waist pants, down from 50" when I started on this road, I tried on a random blazer that caught my eye. It fit like it was custom tailored right down to the length of the sleeves. Checking the labels inside I literally laughed out loud seeing it was a 46R. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever see myself in anything that 'small'. Added bonus? It was $12 and looks like it was never worn.
  3. Down 143lbs since my RnY in Sept '23, all of my fitted baseball hats are too big and I've had to tighten the back straps on all of the others. That's not something I ever expected.
  4. Exactly the same for me. I only just bought my Apple Watch in August. Before that I was using an old FitBit that didn't measure nearly as much and was never a problem on my left wrist. The new Apple Watch was giving me all kinds of grief until I did some web surfing and learned about the sensor/tattoo incompatibility. I'm glad I found this before my next tattoo which is going to by a stylized mandala on the back of my right hand; will have to leave an open spot under the watch!
  5. It's awesome when scrolling on social media to block ads for big & tall clothes because those ads are 'Not Relevant' any more. (So far) In 14 months since my surgery I've gone from 4xl/5xl shirts and 48-50" waist pants to xl shirts and 36" waist pants and I've donated to my local thrift store 3 separate times as I 'ungrow' things.
  6. That's an amazing gauge; before my surgery (Sept '23), I had to use the last hole, and it was...snug. Here we are now, a week short of 14 months post-op, down 135lbs and I use the 4th hole unless I'm working out, when I use the 5th hole to tighten it up a little to keep the sensors away from the bottom of my (tattoo) sleeve.
  7. I had my RnY surgery on Sept 14, 2023 and took the picture on the left the day before wearing 48" jeans and a 4xl shirt. 12 months and -130lbs later, I'm wearing a 36" waist jeans and an XL technical shirt. Even though I'm wearing them, I hold those jeans up every time I put them on and say, 'There's no way these are going to fit' as I slide them up with ease; they just look so...small. Ideally I'd still like to lose about another 50, but we'll see where I end up.
  8. They were around my ankles just walking the 10 feet from the camera to the chair.
  9. 11 months post-op and 122 lbs lost; Sept 2023 on the left and today on the right. Same shirt, same pants. My mind is constantly blown when I take these monthly progress comparison pix.
  10. When I first read this at the end of April, I laughed thinking there's NO WAY I'll ever fit into a 36" waist, never mind a 34". I recently bought a pair of shorts at a thrift store (I don't want to spend a fortune on new clothes while I'm still losing and it's tough to beat $6 for a pair of shorts that only need to get me through this summer) that are indeed a 36" waist. Stepping on the scale for a second, I broke the century mark a couple of days ago; I'm down 102 lbs since my September RNY, so maybe you're right, though while my head says not a chance, my clothes are telling me otherwise.
  11. Here's a good one; for the life of me, I can't recall the last time I was able to wear a pair of jeans which have a waist size that started with a '3'. I won't forget that today was the next time. First image; size 50 jeans I was wearing a year ago (surgery was mid-Sept. These were my regular every day jeans). The second is the size 38 I bought today, -95 lbs 7 months post-op. Still a long way to go, but this was a pretty big deal.
  12. I just spent the past six days on business half way across the country. Flying didn't require a seat belt extension - and on the return flight, I was in a middle seat without issue. The best though, was a couple of days ago when I got into an Uber and asked the driver if he could move the front seat forward. He apologized and said, "I'm sorry. I had a heavy person and he had to put the seat all the way back." He could never have known that 6 months and 85lbs ago it's very likely that I would have been that guy in the front seat.

    Calories and weight loss at 6 months Post OP

    I'm only four months post-op and have lost 65lbs as of this morning. I've been trying to maintain 900-1000 calories per day with a minimum 70g protein and trying to limit carbs to 50g or less and fat to 35g or less. At my three month post-op consult with my bariatric nutritionist, she was satisfied with those numbers and was happy with my weight loss progress to that point, which was 48lbs. I'm currently riding a plateau and have only lost 3lbs over the past couple of weeks, but it's my second one since surgery and while frustrating, I know it'll pass.

    Progress...

    Thank you. I still have a long way to go but after four months, I'm almost exactly 1/3 of the way to my goal.

    Progress...

    Thank you. You're absolutely right; I've taken a picture every month since my surgery in September and lining them all up, there's really not much difference month to month, but taking out months one, two & three and putting month 0 and 4 side by side as I've done here, there really is a significant difference and it's definitely encouraging.
