    4/19/09 Countdown...5! 4! 3!...

Isn't it exciting and nerve racking all at once? I'm on the mend from my surgery on Thursday. Feeling really good. Some port area pain if I stay seated or stand for too long. I try to alternate every 30 minutes. I am able to sleep in my bed and lay on the side opposite the port. I am looking forward to eating real food again after my 1 week post-op check up. Liquids and full liquids get old rather quickly. I'm dreaming about a scrambled egg. Best wishes for your surgery and recovery!!!

    Had Surgery on 4/16!

Hello, I had my LapBand surgery on 4/16, too! I would be happy to chat with you.
  3. Came through my LapBand surgery on Thursday. Stayed overnight and got home late yesterday afternoon. I managed about 20grm of Protein yesterday. Today, I'm eating/drinking about 10 grms of protein every 3hours or so. I'm filled my 32oz drink cup and I'm sipping it. I on full liquids, so anything I consume goes towards my daily 64oz Fluid intake. I slept in my bed last night, propped up on a combination of sofa and sleep pillows. I did manage to sleep on my right side too. I used a med pump while in the hospital. Pain come and goes, but I don't like the way I feel when I take the pain meds (liquid hydromorphene). I can't drive for a week, so I will use the week to rest and heal. I am moving around and walking. I find that I get uncomfortable if I sit or stand for too long, so I alternate between the two. Hope all of this weeks Bandsters are doing well. Blessings!

  5. The pre-op diet/fast with 20 grs of protein is to shrink and defat the liver. Shrinking the liver helps make the stomach more accessable for banding.

I'm home from the hospital. All went well, but I had a liver biopsy done at the same time as the LapBand, so right now I feel like someone stomped on my stomach. I have Hepatitis C, and being right there to place the LapBand provided an opportunity to get some real-time photos of my liver.

Glad to hear that you received insurance approval and a surgery date. I'll be banded on Thursday. Working my pre-op fast/diet. Will be happy when I don't have a protein limit (20grms). Ugh!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Two more full days of my pre-op fast/diet and I'll be heading to the hospital on Thursday morning for surgery. My stomach feels like a volcano tonight. Guess I consumed something today that didn't agree with me. I've got chicken broth and creamed soup coming out of my ears. I bought some ready-made, no sugar added puddings. They only have 1 grm of protein, and I liked that idea, being limited to 20 grms on my pre-op this allowed me to put a bit more into my stomach than I have been. Maybe the pudding is what upset my stomach. I've also had the headache from hell for the last few days. Tylenol has no effect. Getting the pre-op jitters. Hoping I've made the right decision and that I will succeed in this weight loss journey. Wishing all of this weeks bandsters blessings and quick recovery!!!

  14. iI think if you posted a question about protein and the pre-op diet, you'll find it's not unusual to limit protein intake to 20 grams. Actually, I think it is more unusual to have a doctor allow allow 60 or more grams pre-op.

Pre-Op Fast & The Surgery Countdown

It's day 2 of my pre-op fast. I woke up with a headache this morning. It not easy to stay at 20 grms of protein for a 24 hour day. Yesterday morning, I quickly realized that one no sugar instant breakfast with 1% milk used up 13grms of my 20 grms of protein. Didn't leave me much for the remainder of the day. For the rest of this pre-op fast. I plan to carefully ration my protein. A full can of a Campbells cream soup with chicken broth instead of milk, will only use 3-5 grms of protein (for the entire can). That gives me the option of 3-4 cans of soup per day and still stay within my 20 grms of protein. I'd rather have soup several times throughout the day than one instant breakfast. I'll save the instant breakfasts and sugar free puddings for post-op when I'll have more grms of protein to spend. I discovered Luigi's no sugar added Italian ices in the ice cream section of my local market. They are very yummy. Six per box. That's my 2 cents for today. Happy Easter!!!

Hi All, Does anyone know anything about a pin# for ticker access. I don't remember creating a pin and now cannot access my ticker for updates. I'd be just as happy if someone can tell me how to delete my current ticker, then I'll just create a new one. Thanks!

2009: New Year - New Body

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to me! Three weeks from today I'll be banded. I'll be on the liquid fast during the Easter holiday. I went to Golden Corral last night. It wasn't my idea. Family wanted to go. All you can eat buffets and super sizing; it's no wonder we are a nation of obese children and adults, and that heart diseae is one of the top three causes of early death. So, how does one succeed in this weight loss journey, even with a lap band? I guess that's my biggest concern in an environment of all the food you can eat. So much socialization revolves around FOOD; having friends and family over for meals; going out for lunch/dinner with friends. I guess that's where the support group comes in. I'm still filled with mixed feelings, questions, concerns, doubts and hopes. I'd appreciate any support and insights that the experienced banders can offer!

Greetings! Thanks for the invitation Band_Groupie! My surgery date is April 16th. I have my physical/medical history, pre-op labs and dietician edu class left in my process, all scheduled the week prior to surgery. I begin my pre-op fast on April 9th, so Easter meal is a bust. i am beginning to purchase some of the stuff I will need pre and post op. My 5 lb container of unflavored whey Protein isolate powder was delivered today. I like it because isolate protein is the most absorbable source of protein. The powder can be added to anything I eat or drink and has no added sugar. I'd love to hear what you all will be consuming during your liquid and full liquid diets. Anyone else scheduled for April 16th? Blessings!
  25. Hi,

Thanks for the response to my blog post.

You know, I know I have to just set my brain on the "ready mode".

Regarding bread & peanut butter; As far as I have been told and according to my Lap Band educational manual, they want you to stay away from white bread, but whole grain & 100% whole wheat is ok, especially toasted, and peanut butter is allowed, too (the natural, like smuckers. Yummy! just like roasted peanuts). Maybe you might want to post that question and see what the responders say. I wouldn't put a huge glob on the toast, and I'd chew very well.

    Thanks again!
