July 2023 surgery people!
Penguin733 replied to jb279's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gas pains was definitely something I didn't expect! See if you can get a nurse to help you walk around! Walking definitely helped expedite the healing process for gas pains for me personally, by third or fourth day post-op they were gone! When you get discharged, it'll be difficult but try to set a timer to walk every 2 hrs! Helped me a ton! -
Dang, but that makes sense. I just recall seeing a post about it in an old thread here so I hadn't really considered it but I did go ahead and emailed my dietician while making this post too. Just sent it after hours so she won't be able to get back to me until tomorrow at the earliest. And I'm totally fine with them not being ok, I'm fine with soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, and mashed potatoes just anything other than the protein shakes & gatorade I've been stuck with for these two weeks in post-op for my liquid phase lol. I've been slowly going mad with just that. lol

What was your “Moment” ?
Penguin733 replied to GrannyMaggie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My moment was when it clicked that I could afford it; I always struggled with my weight fluctuating but I was getting to the point where I was just getting bigger despite all my efforts in exercising (and I always liked going to the gym, would even go for 2hrs), but I was simply eating more than I was putting out, on top of which I never felt full awhen eating + my insatiable hunger when my depression would hit, so I needed a physical stop. I opt'd for the sleeve as it would still allow me to eat what I like, but rather smaller portions. And with positive attestations from family members and friends I went ahead with it. I'm nearing two weeks post-op and don't regret it so far, I am just begging for the liquid diet to end just so I can have diversity in what I eat lol; currently getting burned out on just having protein shakes and gatorade. -
Hello all, I'm currently on my final week of my liquid diet and I was wondering if anyone had good pureed food recipes? Because all I can think of is mashed potatoes and apple sauce; and does anyone know if smoothies or overnight oats count? Would greatly appreciate any effort to giving me some recipes as I'm currently at a loss for what I can do.

So for the past couple of days, I've been having black diarrhea. Is this to be expected? I know iron can cause black stool and I've been strictly on liquid diet so could explain the diarrhea, but how do I know it's not an ulcer? I just don't know what I can do over the weekend when the surgical group I had the surgery with or the bariatric coordinator at the hospital to contact for my questions are off for the weekend.

TMI WARNING: Bowel Movement
Penguin733 replied to Penguin733's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update So, I tried calling the Surgical Group to speak with my surgeon (as he said to call him for any inquiries), but I was unable to reach him so I left a message (and still haven't heard back from him), so I decided to do a little investigation on my own. So, yesterday I went without taking my iron supplement and did everything else, next day (today) when I woke up had a mild bowel movement. But when I took my iron supplement, that ran right through me and caused the exact same issue as before so I'm thinking it's the iron supplements that's making me create this issue. Don't know why as I've read that seems to be the case for people who take in too much iron, but I've only been drinking my protein shakes and gatorade along with the vitamins since I got discharged. I'm hoping they get back to me tomorrow, if not it's just going to have to wait until I meet with them in person for my post-op next Monday. -

Maybe. I'm really hoping it's just that, it started off as all black and now it's dark green. -

That's what I'm thinking/hoping for as I'm not feeling any other symptoms of anything like an ulcer or what have you. And it's not a continuous issue just once a day, as I feel like if it was a major issue I'd feel something or it happen again during the day. It does happen a few hours after I take my iron. I'm just really hoping it's nothing serious. Will be calling the group tomorrow morning when they open, just my luck it happens over the weekend when they're closed. 😅 -
So, I got the sleeve a couple of days ago and I'm trying to make sure I stay hydrated as I'm moving along I'm finding that I'm able to drink in more than the itty bitty milliliter amount I was able to stomach and swallow before. Is it okay that I go over that amount? I'm just trying my best to stay hydrated and I figured why not drink as much as I can, if I can. I know it's a weird question, but it got me a bit paranoid that maybe there was more to it than just the uncomfortable feeling they were trying to forewarn about. 😅

Yeah for sure, I've definitely learned that walk around trick early on. Just want to make sure those bigger sips don't have any other underlying problems other than that 'stuck in the throat' feeling.

For sure, I am happy to finally be able to intake more now to ensure that I do stay hydrated, because I was so worried about how I was supposed to with so little at a time lol. I guess I was paranoid bursting the seams if I took too much 😅

Hello, new member and was curious about a few things.
Penguin733 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Howdy y'all, I discovered this forum when I would Google questions I was feeling and this seemed like a great supportive community to participate in while I go on my adventure. I'm currently 2 days post-surgery (had my bariatric sleeve done on the 11th) and was wondering if you guys had any advice for a newbie like me? Something you had wished you had known before. My current set up is I have a timer for an hour to ensure I hydrate and at the second hour I go for a short walk in my apartment hallways to avoid blood clots, shake down any gas still in me, etc. Currently, think I'm out of the weeds with the gas pains (though my shoulders still feel a little crunchy when I massage it, if that makes sense lol) and now just suffering from the abdominal pain from the main incision but I have my pain reliever for that when needed. But I am struggling to walk as I'm just shuffling my feet and hurts to reach for stuff, anyone know a good timeline to expect this to be lessen? I appreciate any helpful advice and guidance y'all might bestow upon me.
