  1. Good evening everyone! I just ordered all of my vitamins for my post op August 7th! I noticed a lot of people go for chewable vitamins. I ordered all gel caps. Do people go for chewable because it's hard to swallow after the surgery? Is that a better option? TIA!
  2. Any Gastric Sleeve surgery buddies in August? Mine is scheduled for August 7th! Almost 1 week away! Counting down the days!
  3. Good morning everyone 🌞 My QOTD today is did anyone develop any food aversions after surgery? Any foods you used to like that now you can't stand? Seafood is already off limits for me so I'm hoping chicken or beef don't become one for me!
  4. Hey everyone! So I was scheduled for Gastric Bypass on 08/07/23, but after reviewing my medical history, my surgeon believes that Gastric sleeve would be a better option for me (due to Psychiatric medication I currently take and past history of addiction). I am a little worried because I heard the chances of GERD/gastritis are higher with the sleeve? I already suffer from occasional GERD and gastritis, but I agree with my doctor that the malabsorption of Gastric bypass probably isn't a good fit for me. Anyone get the sleeve and have issues with GERD/gastritis before? Did it improve or get worse? TIA 😊

    GERD/Gastritis with Gastric Sleeve

Thank you for this post! I decided to make an appointment with my gastroenterologist before moving forward. It sucks because it Is delaying my surgery. But I want to make the best decision and it needs to be addressed.

    GERD/Gastritis with Gastric Sleeve

Yes I am completely stable now with my medications and don't want to mess with that. Will not be able to sustain my weight loss if I lose my mind lol. I'm on an anti depressant, benzo and mood stabilizer. My psychiatrist said we may have to up my dose after gastric bypass. I really don't want to do that I'm on low to medium dose right now and want to keep it that way. My benzo could be liquid form but the rest can't. My surgeons office made it seem like since my gastritis and Gerd isn't bad enough to be on medicine (I just take Alka seltzer or Picot when it acts up) I should be fine. Sucks that my choices are basically being morbidly obese, worsening gastritis and Gerd or not getting my psych meds. Not getting my meds would be most disastrous and being obese with all my other health problems would be as well so I'm going to follow my Dr suggestion and do the sleeve and hope for the best I guess. When is your surgery date?
  7. Hey guys, I just wanted to vent how I am feeling and see if anyone else feels this way or did feel the same before surgery. I already started my preop diet so I am fully committed to doing things right so I can have a safe recovery. Today was hard in that I got a lot of invitations for food related things that I'd usually be so excited about. My best friend called me and told me a new Cuban restaurant (my favorite food) was opening in San Diego and that we should try it as my "goodbye" meal before surgery. I know the intentions were good, but I politely declined and told her I already started my preop surgery since I am 3.5 weeks away from surgery. Later this same day, my sister who has been on vacation in Puerto Rico the past two weeks called me and told me that she brought back some delicious food she discovered there and if my fiance and I to would like to come over and try it. Again, I declined. The last straw for me today has been that a foodie club that I've been a part of and built friendships in has invited me to San Diego Comic Con this weekend to try out the new Sonic the Hedgehog popup Cafe. Food menu items are being paid for by the club so basically free food and meetup with some friends. This was the hardest for me to say no to, I even rsvped knowing damn well I can't go. As you can see, food has been a major part of my social life and source of happiness for the past years that I guess I am the go to that people call when they want to eat 🤣🤣 All of these invitations happened today and I can't help but feel really depressed right now and like I'm missing out. I am so done with the health problems I have and the chronic pain I'm in because of my obesity . I have been so excited that I've committed to this weight loss journey and my new diet for the past week talking nonstop about it and being hopeful and now this feeling of depression and feeling sorry for myself has hit me like a pile of bricks and I haven't even done the surgery yet which makes me feel hopeless like I've already failed just by feeling like this. Sorry for the long post, just feeling down and needed to vent
  8. Two weeks until surgery!!!! I scheduled an appointment with my surgeon to go over ALL of my last minute questions. One of the concerns I had was of my post op diet. My surgeon seems more "liberal" when it comes to the pre op and I am allowed to eat fruit, eggs, bacon, cottage cheese, protein, vegetables, nuts, cheese etc until two days before surgery. From most of what I've read online it seems like most people go on a liquid diet during this time. I wondered if maybe he thinks patients maybe won't stick to it and that's why he didn't assign it so I made up my own semi liquid diet with the information I gathered which was basically 100% fruit juice Popsicle, sugar free pudding, gelatin, soup, protein shake and ground beef salad everyday. I wrote down what I was doing and handed it to him and he proceeded to ask me where I got this diet from and straight told me that this diet was crap, snacks had no nutritional value which would make me weaker before surgery, Popsicle had a bunch of sugar and that my liver would shrink by cutting Carb and starches alone and that i need to eat and stay off the internet 🤣🤣 Did anyone else's surgeon put them on a diet like this pre op? Don't get me wrong I am of course happy to eat food, but I've never heard of anyone else having such a liberal diet pre op and it makes me wonder...

  14. How bad REALLY is the gas right after gastric bypass surgery? Did you just let it rip in front of all the doctors/nurses or did you try to hide it?? 🤣🤣🤣 What helped it and how long until you felt better? I appreciate the input so much as always!! TIA 😊

    Gas After Bypass Surgery 💩

So interesting how some people have such bad gas and some don't! I thought that pretty much everyone had it because I was going off a support group I was in and the therapist told me that her Gas pain was worse than 2 c sections that she had! And another girl the same about having a lot of gas and I was like whoa sounds pretty bad! I'm going to do what I have to do if that's the case for me no shame in my game 😅

    Depressed before surgery

I've told a few close friends and family members, but not telling all yet. I told my fiance when she chooses to tell her family I don't want to hear the reaction and I don't want anyone visiting me in the hospital 🤣🤣 it was nice that my friend that invited me to San Diego cooked me a bone broth from scratch after I told her my hate for Campbell's soup 🤣🤣 so I am lucky that I am getting some support, my fiance has come around and is supportive too although it does irritate me that I feel she could be more supportive and cut the bread out (my weakness) for the time being but oh well. It is much easier now for me to say no to things I was just having one of those days!

    Exercise Before Surgery

I decided to hold off on the exercise and just do what others have suggested which is park further and walk farther stuff like that. I'm also laser focused on my diet and am not eating more than 1500 calories and then 12 days ahead not eating more than 1200. I'm doing surprisingly well on my semi liquid diet. I thought i would be so hungry and really I'm not really ever that hungry at all. Today is day 3 and I felt weak and a little out of it and had some headache but it passed. 2 weeks until surgery will be here before you know it!
  18. Happy Tuesday Everyone!! So since I was three weeks out yesterday I decided that it's time to exercise before surgery. I have moderate osteoarthritis and when triggered there is hell to pay. I decided to go on a thirty minute walk around the neighborhood and I couldn't even do that without causing a flare-up after and being in extreme pain to the point of crying. I have been on tylenol codeine #3 for arthiritis flare ups 3x daily and yesterday I decided to cut it out completely because I want to get rid of as many pills as possible in my system before surgery. Normally I would just take those and be fine but that wasn't an option yesterday and it was really bad. My point is I can't even walk continuously for long without being in extreme pain. I'm not bed ridden or anything just can't do it continuously and briskly like I hoped. My point is how important is exercise before surgery? I have a tread mill and I'm going to try that today. Maybe straight walking on my joints was too much. Do you think not exercising much before will hinder my recovery or increase my chance of complications? This arthiritis, aside from my family and quality of life of course, is a main reason I decided enough is enough I'm doing this!

    Exercise Before Surgery

Thanks everyone this makes me feel so much better. ❤️ I finally have an appointment with my surgeon on Thursday to discuss all of my health problems and concerns, but I like to compare it to what everyone whose been there thinks as well i get such good advice and tips from you guys on here. My all or nothing thinking really gets the best of me sometimes and has me thinking if I can't do it for 30 mins then it's not worth it at all which obviously isn't true!

    TMI Semi Liquid Diet Diahrrea

So I definetely know what the culprit is, whenever I eat that damn Campbell soup I run to the bathroom lolll. BTW I never had campbell soup before this diet and I must say I find it kind of repulsive, do not like them at all lol. Tomorrow I'm going to try a different brand and see if this happens again like that, wish me luck 😅
  22. So I survived my first day of my post op semi liquid diet today! Everything went great until I had Cream of Mushroom Campbell soup for lunch. I used Fairlife nonfat milk to mix it with and put a scoop of Isopure flavorless protein powder and bam sudden diahrea and I had it for hours (haven't even had the surgery yet 🤣🤣) I'm trying to figure out if it was the soup or if protein powder does this?? Any insight??

    Food Aversions After Surgery

Soooo in my soup yesterday I dumped the protein powder into the soup when it was ready all at once and it was a big clumpy disgusting mess 🤣🤣 I remembered you wrote this to incorporate slowly and damn was that right haha. Do you cook the entire soup first and then put the protein in little by little once it's in your bowl of soup or do you stir it in while cooking? I was so hungry I just dumped a huge scoop in my bowl of soup when it was done and steaming hot and it was so nasty I basically chewed my soup 🤣🤣
