  1. I agree with ChunkCat. Although I am past the liquid food phase, I know my relationship with Thanksgiving food has changed. I have been putting my energy into decorating the house for Christmas and will focus on spending time with family. My daughter had a birthday two weeks after my surgery and I experienced a little anxiety but quickly saw the opportunity in it. I hope you enjoy the day. Happy Thanksgiving.

    July 2023 Surgery Buddies UPDATES!!!

You both are doing great!!! I was sleeved 7/6/23 as well- the recovery went well. I do not believe my sleeve was too restrictive as I can eat small meals without discomfort. I do limit my caloric intake to under 1000 calories per day (I track) and I do not eat simple carbs. I have been eating some fruits which I am cutting back on. I weighed in 3 days ago at 187 lbs, so I am down 43 lbs post surgery, 80 lbs since my first bariatric appointment. I have been in the middle of stall for the last 2 weeks. Hoping it breaks soon. The weight loss has definitely slowed, but based on reading others' experience, I am not going to worry at this point. I wanted to be at least 167 lbs by the 6 month mark, but I've lost very little in the last 4 weeks- don't think I'll make it. Anyway, the goal is what matters. Good luck to you all!

    First real food? Cherries!!

Although I love salmon, I'm more concerned about the richness of salmon. It's also on my day 45 and beyond list, as an oily fish. I'm planning on having my first non pureed/ mushy food on day 30 or 31. I'm trying to stick to the plan as closely as possible. I hope I tolerate most food well, I have had not issues so far so I'm hoping for the best.

    First real food? Cherries!!

That was my thought. I always cook salmon with the skin on, it's a bit rich and oily- even without the extra butter I used to add, lol. I can remove the skin and poach it, but I'll wait. That casserole was not giving! Thanks for the ideas, the rissoles sounds good as does adding a sauce or gravy to meats. I need to practice some healthy sauce recipes.

    First real food? Cherries!!

That lemon garlic smoked salmon sounds delicious- my favorite. I think I will ease into it- purees end this Thursday. I think I will try chicken first.

Hi, I had surgery on July 6, I have lost 13 lbs. For the last 4 days I have been the same weight or the scale has been fluctuating up and down by ~a pound. I hope to start losing again soon. I am still on the liquid diet, I will be moving to pureed on day 21. Good luck to all.

Hi Lindsey. My surgery was the same day. I am have trouble getting the some fluids in as well, however, I have only felt dehydrated once. My surgery team said that some other things I ingest count towards my fluid intake, like protein shake and broth but I try focus on getting 64 oz of water- flavored and unflavored. It seems like a lot to take in many days. All the best!
  11. Hi Jocemp, I know it's hard to stay positive when you are in pain. Most people have a positive outcome so the odds are in your favor. I pray your pain gets better. A couple of days ago I developed a similar pan. I had pain in my left upper abdomen that seem to throb under my ribs as well and wrapped around to the back- It almost felt like a throbbing burn in the back under my ribs. I took some laxatives and changed up with my diet- mainly stop drinking cow's milk, took a load of gasx, and burped, burped, burped. The next day I feel so much better! I have felt little discomfort for that past 1.5 days. I know everyone is different. Keep us posted.
  12. Thank you Spinoza! I plan to follow the plan to a T as I do not want to take any chances. Reading all the stats is encouraging- yours are impressive!
  13. Hello all. I am excited be on this weight loss journey. I had my VGS on July 6, 2023, so I am a less than a week post-op. I started this journey at 267 lbs- consult day. The day of surgery I was 230 lbs. My surgery went well, I spent one night in the hospital. My incisions are still sore but manageable, I feel great. Today, I weighed in at 226 lbs. I live in Florida. It is so great to have a place to share my experience and get advice. I hope I can be helpful in some way and my words can inspire someone.
  14. I see. I've tried protein in my coffee in the past but it did not work for me. I'll be happy when I can have caffeine again, decaf is just not the same!! Good luck on your search.

Hi. My surgery was 4 days ago, July 6. I am doing well, the healing appears to be going well. I still have pain at the incision spots but it is manageable. I am tolerating protein and liquids well. I am excited to show my kids that being around and healthy for them and myself is priority one. I am also looking forward to wearing some of my old clothes! My husband has been very supportive throughout the process. My children were apprehensive because it's surgery, we have been pretty open about it as a family. I have not determined how I will approach the topic with my friends. I go back and forth between, not telling them at all. I am the only obese friend so I do not know what value it will bring. My sister had a gastric bypass 15 years ago, her input has been invaluable and reading this forum has been super helpful. Thank you all.
  16. I've been lurking for a few weeks so I know what you mean. I am focused on getting through the next few weeks post op- I am definitely proud of how far I've come. Thanks for the advice.
  17. I have tried several powders and settled on Isopure (have not had the unflavored). I prefer dutch chocolate and strawberry, but vanilla is not bad. I believe the taste is better when it settles after being mixed. The vanilla and chocolate make great pancakes- I make them for my boys and they love them. I am 4 days post-op. I've recently added raspberry Isopure protein water. It's nice to have options. They come in different flavors, at 20-40gm of protein per scoop/premade bottle. They taste like flavored water...love them.
