Frustrated but still not giving up
sharnut replied to maclynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was in 6/08 - I have had many periods of time when my body played with the same few lbs....I also have about 50 left to loose - I just keep the faith & changing up the workouts....it will come off - just testing us more! -
This is seriously driving me nuts!
sharnut replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Erin - Maybe you can find someone to talk to @ a support group - I'm 14 months out & love group! Remember - restriction is not always pleasant - but it's what you wanted when you opt'd for the band. You have to relax, give your body time to heal and let the band work for you. The band's not a magic pill - but it will work for you if you allow it to do it's thing. Good luck -
Not Sure What's Happening
sharnut replied to ~Michelle~'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't opt for an unfil quite this soon. I've had one unfil - but restriction was so bad that I couldn't swallow - it's a learning experience but you want the restriction you've got - It's just not always to deal with "not being able to eat like we used to" Eat slow and chew well - things will give some with time. -
Hint for drinking soda..
sharnut replied to CantB2noty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please remember that you're not helping your weight loss journey by drinking soda. Dr's tell you to stay away from it for a good reason. I suggest finding somthing healthy to drink. ............hurting yourself in the long run!!!! -
Yes - It's normal to be tight in the morning. When you lay down the Fluid in the band....is able to move around and does get tighter. I've found that my morning coffee helps it to loosen some - so I can eat a piece of cheese or somthing small for breakfast. Don't do like I did @ first & skip breakfast - need to get metabolism moving early in the day. Good luck......tight in the am means things are working!

Hi Tish, Please remember that this is going to be a long journey - yes the scale will still go up & down - I'm 14 months out and still am surprised @ the scale - I usually play with 2 to 3 pounds for a few weeks, then the number drops a couple of lbs & the game starts again. Once you find the restriction it gets easier.....but you'll always have the I want's........ Good Luck

Quick breakfast Ideas Please
sharnut replied to karibensea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really struggle with eating in the morning as I'm so tight....but I have been eating a piece of "Laughing Cow baybel light cheese. It's the one in the white - It's great for breakfast or an on the go snack. 50 calories and 6 grams of Protein. Good luck! -
My eyes are "way" bigger than my stomach. I pack most of my food ahead in small glad containers (1 cup) - It's a habit now...packing lunch usually take a full cup & eat half of what I've got for the day. At dinner I don't measure - but it's nice to have the guideline of the smaller container.

Make some healthy chilli (then blend it) spice it however you like - I ate almost everything I wanted to....just put it in the blender. Loved Chicken pot pie (homemade) with no crust.....sheppards pie....they are great once they are mush. Still have the taste....just different texture. Good luck!!1

What is the name of the protein that you can put into pudding?
sharnut replied to CarlinsMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to mix unflavored unjury with instant none fat choc pudding....just added the unjury scoop to the milk before mixing it with the pudding. It really helped me the first few months after surgery. Good luck -
Does everyone get numbed for a fill?
sharnut replied to pickles123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had 8 or 9 fill's & one unfill (never have been numbed) It's no biggie......just part of life w/ my band! -
Banded 6/12/09 and dont' think its working!!
sharnut replied to suthern_gurl83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a long journey!!!! Way too early to get upset, you have to give body time to adjust and heal. I was banded in June 08 (24th) but it wasn't until fall that I finally found good restriction. The pounds come off very slow...and yes I want faster weight loss.....but I choose this surgery over bypass - I've lost about 60 lbs in a year & by next June hope to be @ my goal. Good luck, give the band the time it needs & work with it, not against it. Getting upset over the scale will not help, can even hinder your success. -
got banded fri and have lost nothing
sharnut replied to Dawni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd suggest - getting on the scale only once a week!!!! It's way too early in the game to bring yourself down. -
How do I know When I'm full?
sharnut replied to Arb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always measured what I ate - the max I ate was 1 cup.....3 x's a day. -
Will it be different after my first fill?
sharnut replied to prillywilly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He everyone, It takes awhile - but if you get regular fills.....you will find restriction and that you REALLY Can't eat the things you're told not to eat! I was banded in June 2008 - I've got 7.5 in my 10 cc band - have great restriction! It's worth the wait - don't give up, eat what you should & it does get better!!!!! -
True confessions from a newbie..HELP!
sharnut replied to idababy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say vacation or not - go purchase a magic bullett or small blender & don't put anything into your mouth that is not MUSH...........!!!! Why put the time and effort, and expense into having surgery if you ignore the rules. I know it sounds cruel - but if you want the band to work for you - you have to work with it!!!! -
Afraid to eat! Need feedback/help!
sharnut replied to bobbiezhere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Bobby, I've been banded since 6/08 - hard to believe it's been a year. I've lost 57 lbs to date - and love my band! From now until when you find your "sweet spot" it may be difficult once you start eating normal foods. I had my first fill @ 6 weeks also - but it wasn't until August that I had good restriction. I've got a 10 cc band and have 7.5 cc's in it. I eat slow - don't drink for 1/2 before or hour after I eat - and honestly can't eat much more than 1/2 of a cup. I just had lunch - (2 chicken fingers) baked w/ ff honey mustard dressing. I'm stuffed. Up until I had good restriction - I measured my meals to 1 cup and stopped when the cup was full. Making poor choices happens from time to time - but for the most part - breads & such don't like me - so I often loose them (now I don't even try). Your mindset does change as you body becomes aware of what it needs & you will start being happier with healthier choices. Good Luck Sharon -
I'm also a year out - (had my year follow up yesterday) I've lost 54 lbs - my BMI went from 46 to 36 - The Dr's and everyone @ the clinic are pleased with my results....I tend to beat myself up as I'm not loosing faster.....but I'm heading towards the 180's.

3 weeks post op....think hurt myself exercising
sharnut replied to ta0726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I was banded a year ago yesterday! I remember the first few times on the elipitical - was difficult. I think the "backwards" may have put alittle more pressure in the port area - I don't think you would have done any damage - just be careful & stick with going forward for another few weeks. Enjoy your band!!!! Sharon -
I agree with everyone else that you most likley need a fill. I'm a year out (surgery was 6/24/08) - I've always made a point of only eating a cup (max) per meal. I eat from the one cup glad storage cont - that way. My latest fill last week - went to 7.5 in my 10 cc band. Yes, I pick @ my meals right now more than eat - but I'm getting my Protein & the scale has started to move again. Remember you need to use the band as the tool that it is! Good luck!

I was at a gathering about 3 wks post op - had two sips of a glass of wine & said nope - this isn't working, and handed it over to my mother. I found I just didn't want it. Now I have a drink or glass of wine socially

Hello, During the Mush stage I ate alot of Blended sheppards pie, chicken pot pie (just the filling), chilli. I found that this type of food blended easily (sometimes I had to add Chic broth or ff milk) to thin it out. I usually had what my family had for dinner - fish chowder (blended) was also good. Good luck on your journey Sharon

Hi Granny I share your joy, as I made it to Onderland, last week - it's been years & I'm looking forward to the next fifty - can't happen soon enough! Sharon

I always used unjury - www.unjury.com. The unflavored, I mix it in Cranapple Crystal light, also put in in fat free, sugar free choc pudding. I never had any difficulties drinking it. (had to be really cold) Good Luck
