I had the sadi on Friday. Came home Sunday. Not going to lie Saturday SUCKED! But each day is better than the day before. I am excited to be on the other side!

Pines reacted to Sigh in Hair length and loss
I had waist length hair at surgery start- not too thick. Starting losing hair about 3 months out, like others— and while the length helped hide it at the start, toward the end my ends were super thin. At 9 or so months out I went and cut about 6 inches- and it does look much fuller now. I can see baby hairs have been growing in all over, and have some about 4 inches that can stand out if I dont smooth them down, especially around the edges of my hairline. Luckily the regrowth is coming in white and I totally love it! No more coloring my hair, and it feels soft and healthy.

My hair started thinning around 3 months post surgery. It thinned out until about 9 months out and then slowly stopped. I cut my hair to juuuuuuuust shoulder length and used volumizing and thickening Shampoo and conditioner, and it's really helped. The longer your hair, the heavier it is and can make the thinning more noticeable.

I think in general terms shorter cuts hide Hair loss better - IF you do experience significant loss.
I lost a lot of hair, in three distinct waves. Plus my hair grows (and regrows) abnormally slowly. I'm 28 months post surgery and my last phase of regrowth is just about below my ears now. I've had to cut my hair shorter than I normally would for about 18 months but I think I'll finally be back to my usual below shoulder length soon.
Have to say it's been an opportunity to experiment that I would never have had otherwise! Maybe try new stuff if you need to?

I would wait, too. Not everyone loses hair. Plus some (like me) lose so little that it's not noticeable.

I wouldn’t worry yet but wait until you start to lose your hair. You don’t know how much you will shed. You may not have to do a thing. You usually start to shed around month 4 so your hair wouldn’t have grown much in those 4 months (about 2 inches) and you may not need to do a thing.
I had long thick hair & cut it in stages. Cut a few inches off after a month because it was looking a little thin at the ends (well thin for me but not for most). I then went to just above my shoulders the next month when I’d lost some more. I didn’t lose a lot but short hair is always bouncier & looks thicker than long which is why I cut it.

Just got a call from the surgery center I’m having mine done at. It had to be pushed back two weeks to March 26th due to a scheduling conflict. Frustrating!!

I had my last pre-op meeting yesterday and while coffee is allowed on my pre- op diet, the nutritionist recommended weaning off it because it isn’t allowed/recommended post-op. I think I might do a couple of days on the new diet before starting to cut down on coffee. Starting pre-op tomorrow - fingers crossed!

I have to say, Decaf tea is like a cruel joke. It looks and tastes just like regular, and yet I am still asleep when it's done. And then it's noon and I'm asking myself how I can still be tired after drinking all that tea!

Pines reacted to Shanna NYC in Coffee on pre-op diet?
I was allowed coffee during pre-op diet, only black no milk or sugar, up until 24hrs prior to surgery. Then it was no caffeine for 30 days post-op. Decaf was awful to me so I just went without my life juice for a month.

i was allowed coffee (black only...no sugar or milk, ofc).
though i think they told me not to drink any 12 hrs before surgery...but i think that was all liquids, not just coffee...i don't remember?
further, they served me both coffee and tea in the hospital after surgery...with cream and sugar packets for some reason. i take my coffee and tea black anyway so i didn't bother asking if it was a mistake. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had coffee as my last drink before surgery and when I woke from surgery I was asked did I want one. It wasn't a thing with my surgeon.

we weren't allowed coffee on the pre-op diet, or for the first three or four weeks after surgery. After that, we could drink Decaf. We weren't allowed "real" coffee until about six months out. But as others have said, programs are all different.
  14. Thanks
Pines reacted to Arabesque in Coffee on pre-op diet?
I wasn’t allowed coffee pre or post either. Didn’t bother me as I stopped drinking it years before. Thankfully I was allowed my green tea which I’ve drunk for 20+ yrs & herbal teas.
Was told the caffeine is too harsh on your smaller tummy especially while it is healing & so sensitive.
But as with most things, follow the plan you’ve been given. If you are to give it up after surgery for a period of time, I’d give it up before as the withdrawal can be wicked.

I was allowed coffee before during and after. It depends upon your program.

Pines reacted to NickelChip in Coffee on pre-op diet?
Every program will be different, but your best bet is to wean off it as quickly as you can. Decaf is usually fine, so you may start doing half-caf tomorrow with the goal of getting to all decaf before surgery. It's less a problem before surgery because you can make yourself drink extra Water to combat the dehydration coffee can cause, but it's impossible to do that after, so ideally you don't want to drink anything that makes you get dehydrated. On the other hand, some programs let you have one cup of regular coffee per day. Just don't go cold turkey if you want to avoid a killer headache. I spent two weeks weaning myself off caffeine before my pre-op diet started.

After seeing the Feb 2024 thread and realizing my surgery is only 6 days later, thought I’d start a thread and see if there’s anyone else scheduled in March? I’m having VSG on March 6. I’ve been planning it since last June and am very excited! Any March 2024 Buddies out there? 😀

Pines reacted to ms.sss in Family wedding two months after surgery
at my two month mark it was christmas-ish and i along with the gazillion family parties, i had a wedding-like 50th bday party as well (not mine lol).
eating was not an issue, i nibbled stuff here and there. i did bring a Protein Shake (or two) to every single event, just in case, but didn't need it at any of them. i could easily find something among the spread to eat.
as for something to wear, i would probably nix the idea of buying a dress that fits u now. i can almost guarantee that it WILL NOT fit u in May.
not sure if u are a hoarder of just-in-case "skinny clothes" like i was, but i was able to dip into this stash for a few months during weight loss phase for my dress-up needs.
if anything, maybe wait until at least April to buy a new outfit?

This is coming from a guy, so take it with a grain of salt. I had to go to an event requiring a jacket and tie last week, which was 6 weeks after the pre-op diet (4 weeks post op) weight loss began. When I put on my suit I wore previously in September, I looked like a little kid trying on his dad's clothes. I needed a shirt 3 sizes smaller than my previous, but only 1 size smaller pants. I would suggest waiting to shop until about 2 weeks prior to the event because its hard to predict where you'll be at that point.
As far as the foods go, after having the sleeve done, I'm ok with some foods that I probably shouldn't be ready for yet (ground beef, salmon, high fiber/low carb bread which I have since cut back out since its not diet friendly), but others that I should be ok with are making me feel sick (leafy greens, broccoli, canned tuna). Again, I would just assess where you are a week or two out from the wedding, maybe ask them what is on the menu, but maybe plan to pack a diet-friendly snack in your bag just in case. Congrats again on your surgery!

I, too, was mostly eating things like Soup and yogurt then...and other soft-ish things. I was "allowed" to eat most solid foods by then (except for raw vegetables - that took a few more months), but I still found some solid things difficult to eat. I also wasn't eating very much by then - maybe 600-800 kcal/day. I ate mostly Protein and (cooked or soft) produce. I didn't eat breads, rice, Pasta, or treats like cake until I was over a year out. I probably COULD have, but I didn't - some of it just bothered me. Others I just didn't want to eat at the time because I didn't want to go down that road that early.

I dont know what weight you are so its really guess work. I did a 3 week pre op diet and with 2 months post surgery weight loss, I dropped 40 pounds. If you do the same and bought your outfit, maybe your clothes would not fit.
I really had a struggle with food after surgery. At 2 months I was just about getting the hang of it. I would not have eaten regular food. Soup, milk, yogurts and cheese were my staples at that time. If I had to go to a function I would pack myself a emergency pack, just in case. I had massive drops in energy and needed lots of little meals to pick me up. I still carry Protein Bars and a drink.
