Hello! My surgery date is 7/31 and I’ve been getting prepared for surgery. My question is regarding the all liquid post op diet. My doctor has me on a clear liquid diet for the day after surgery and then I can switch to all liquids (like shakes) and I should stay on this all liquid diet for 2 weeks before starting on “Soft Foods” I over bought my drinks for these two weeks. My question is: Can I stay on the all liquid diet for another week or two before moving to soft foods? Is there any potential down side to that? Thanks! -

Hello, I'm pretty new to this website and maybe I don't know how to optimize the search function yet but I'm looking for people who have had experience with the Center for Obesity and Metabolic Health at UCLA. what little I've seen on Bariatric Pal is about 5 years old and would love to hear about more recent experiences. How was your overnight stay? how has the post-op care been? I'm about 3 weeks out and I'm getting nerves. Thanks! -

Has anyone ever tried long distance hiking after having the VSG? it’s on my bucket list but I wonder how this surgery will affect my ability to hike 20 miles per day for 3-4 months straight. I’m also curious about anyone who has taken up extremely physical activities post VSG like marathons, long distance cycling, triathlons, things like this. Does the sleeve preclude sustained vigorous exercise like these? Thanks!- 6 replies

Yes! my surgery date is July 31st. I’ve been telling my friends and family. Most are very supportive and some have asked why this is necessary but for the most part folks have been supportive. I’ve also been following social media accounts which is very encouraging. Not as many men out there talking about this but I don’t think the experience is very different between genders. I’m still a month out and wonder what are the things I can be doing now to make sure this all goes as smooth as possible.
