Start off good then get too tight...help
Crummy78 replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know the feeling, my doc is like that sometimes. He tried to tell me the last time I was there to go from 3cc to 3.5cc, that I probably wasnt losing weight at 5cc because, in actuality I was really too tight, and compensating for it by eating high fat Soups and ice cream........ I was so . Now dont get me wrong, Im not going to sit here and say I never eat ice cream, but I certainly was not doing what he accused me of.... I really at that time could have eaten a hoagie if i wanted and had 5cc of Fluid in.......I knew that wasnt right. He's also the same doc that tells me my weight loss is right on track.....which boggles me, cause when I look on here there are ppl with wayyyyy less post op time in as me, and have lost double what I have. I really think sometimes because LBS is on the newer end of medical practices poppin up, the docs never want to admit they are giving or gave bad advice. God forbid you pass on by word of mouth that he's a jackass to another possible new patient......lol.... -
I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
Crummy78 replied to MCCTLC68's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would definately say then your probaby too tight.I told the nurse practitioner the other day (after another unfill) that I was embarrassed to come in, that this is the 4th time in 4 months Ive been filled and unfilled. She said it is perfectly normal when you get that close to your "green zone" aka "sweet spot". Another thing is, I know you had said that your friends are very judgemental, but I have to say, If I remember correctly, You've lost about 100lbs so far......I think they probably know your at least doing something. 10lbs is one thing, nobody would not notice 100lb loss.... -

You lose slower when you eat very little because chemically your body thinks its starving, so your metabolism slows down so you can retain energy. It may possibly need to be adjusted as you lose weight, but its not a guarenteed. Everyone is different. And in the long run you may do more damage then help, because it could take months before that is needed. Im over a year out and am going backwards with my fills. Its too hard to determine what your body will chose to do. also as a little trick I do, and also happens to be on some handouts in my docs office, I eat about 2 hrs before I go anywhere. This way if I have a problem I am home for 2 hrs to deal with it. Then when I go out, I get something small like and appetizer or a soup. Mostly everyone I know, knows about my surgery, and those who dont, just think I have incredible will power........lol -
How long have you had your band and are you still happy?
Crummy78 replied to Beka's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
14 months out....... I have to say Ive had some ups and downs with fills, literally. lol Theyve had to unfill me completely a few times, which slowed me down. But it never stopped me, I LOVE MY BAND! -
I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
Crummy78 replied to MCCTLC68's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My first thought would be that you need to be unfilled a little. Ive been filled and unfilled quite a few times. And what they explained to me was basically fat pads break down and things then fit differently. I had 5cc in a 10cc band and felt like i could eat a half a piza if I wanted. So I asked for more.......now after many ins and outs, at 3.5cc I wasnt even able to handle water. I am now at a comfortable 3cc. And Im fine with that. Another thing they told me the other day was just because ur tight and u can only get applesauce and a cracker down, does not mean your weightloss will increase.... You need to eat to lose.... If theres anything I can help with let me know good luck Wendy banded 8/30/07 -

Crummy78 replied to cantweight2go's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with Mindy. After my little weekend issue, Im down to 3cc in a 10cc band. But Im also on Zantac just because they want to avoid anytype of acid reflux at all on me. Maybe you need a little something, or its possible that maybe your still just a little too tight. I know my doc said if i still have problems to come in and they'll take it all out for a little bit.....just till everything settles. If theres anything Ive learned with the band, its that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.... you may think it sounds crazy, or maybe something is unlikely, when sure enough, you were right all along.... my vote is to just throw it all in the hands of the experts.... Let us know how u make out Good Luck Wendy:wink2: -
I do think it is common to be tighter during your period, but not being able to eat at all is not good. Ive had 4 fill in's and outs since July, and trust me, you dont want to put yourself in a bad cycle. Its very damaging to your esophogus, and pouch, and no food doesnt guarentee a healthy weightloss.... Good Luck Honey!

WOW! what a great response to my thread.....I posted this late so I didnt think it would get so many responses...... Thanks again everyone, its really given me some insight on the situation..... -
Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)
Crummy78 replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Im right here with you, its almost comical, I feel like im pulling out air from my toes...........lol:lol: -
Ive never heard of this....where did u have your surgery? Just confused as to why your surgeon wouldnt be doing the fills. I was also banded in 07, and have had so many ups and downs Id be lost without my surgeon. Just since July Ive had 4 fills and unfills trying to find my "sweet spot". Not judging.......just curious.....

unfortunately no. I cant really get anything down. I woke up this morning and felt a little better. I drank a little water it was ok. I waited like an hr and a half and tried like 2 tablespoons of applesauce. That was ok too, but about 1 hr later i felt like i had a rock in my chest. I took a shower tried to relax but it was inevitable as soon as i got out of the shower it all came back up......its the same routine, ill feel fine for about 1-2 hrs and then I guess the acid or gastric fluids back up or something and there I go puking again. It looks like about 2 quarts of clear fluid, which is bizarre to me because Im not drinking any liquids. Ive even gotten to the point that im puking up bile (the yellow junk in the bottom of ur belly). I know my doc is going to tell me its something I did. But i havent really eaten anything since my lil .5 fill....... -
I have already posted this as a reply to another thread. But Im in pain right now so I thought maybe I needed to take a direct approach by posting it as a new thread...... This has been a continuous problem with me since July. I went for several months with 5cc's in a 10cc band. However I thought I was just playing it safe, and really thought I could go with a little more restriction. I went in and they bumped me to 7. I was fine for 2 weeks, then bam, I couldnt keep nothing down. They took all my fluid out for 3 weeks, then tried 6. Fine for 2 weeks then bam, couldnt swallow water. Another 2 weeks with no fluid at all. Then we tried 5.5. Within a week I was admitted in the hospital for dehydration. I was totally perplexed and went another 3 weeks with no fliud. When I went back they decided they would put small amounts to "build" me back up again. I had 3cc's put in, and could pretty much eat anything (although managed to lose 5 pounds surprisingly). I went back last week after having the 3 put in and told him I thought I could used a tad more restriction. He only put in another .5. Its 4 days later and I feel like I can barely breathe. I puked about 15 times yesterday, for no apparent reason, I didnt eat solids all day. I did this so I could give everything a break. But still was puking massive amounts of fluid.........Im so confused, when I had 5ccs in prior to july i never had these issues now i have less then that and i cant even get applesauce down........ If anyone finds the answer please fill me in...........cause im lost......

I actually am trying to be very careful and hold off till the morning ( MONDAY) so I can go to his office. The last time I went to the hosp on the weekend there was no one there to unfill me. They admitted me put me on NPO and loaded me up with pain killers via IV so that I could bear with the pain till the doc came there Sunday. The doc that came in that Sunday was a general surgeon and just the back up for my surgeon. It took him like 90 sticks to access my port with this humongous needle that looked like a darn knitting needle..... To avoid all this Ive decided to just hold off till the morning.... -

Did You Have Sleep Apnea and Not Know it?
Crummy78 replied to m&nsmama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
About a month before my consult with my surgeon, I actually went to a psychiatrist to find out why I was so sleepy all the time...I actually assumed I was depressed (geez I wonder why:glare: I was overweight and hated it). Anyhow, the psychiatrist actually sent me for the sleep study... Well she knew what she was doing because I stopped breathing 63 times:eek:. I was shocked, I never knew anyone that had sleep apnea, and no one ever mentioned the fact of me gasping for air in my sleep, but my son was always complaining about my snoring. I got the machine, and it was like a miracle.....I felt better, I was more alert, could concentrate better, and even my skin tone looked better..... I wouldnt be surprised at all if you have it, as Ive come to realize that it most common in overweight individuals. As a side note also, I was also in your shoes, and just barely fell in to the eligible list for surgery.... I hope all works out for you! -
I think I am over-filled...but would you kindly read and advise?
Crummy78 replied to ShalomToAll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ive recently gone thru 2 bouts of overfill......And had the exact same symptoms...my doc took all my fluid out both times so my stomach would have time to heal, which in turn set me back as far as my weight loss, but it was absolutely worth it. I had the fill in for over a week when I started to run in to problems. The 1st time my doc thought it was an overfill problem, the second he attributed it to maybe a slight overfill, but also me eating something that set it off, in this case it was cold cereal...and from me vomiting I inflamed everything to the point that i just needed everything to chill out for a bit. The worse thing u can do is let it go too long, I let it go the 1st time thinking it would pass, but i got to the point i couldnt keep or get water down, I was severely dehydrated and lost too much weight too fast...... hope ur doc can help u out......
