Hello. ladies and gents! I had my ekg today which looked fine, but the heart doc now wants to do an echo on my heart. What if, for some reason, I have a blocked artery? Will this keep me getting surgery? If they decide to put a stent in, will I have to start all over after I’ve put in all the is work going on 5 months? I’ve already been cleared by dietitian, psyche, sleep study, and will have my pulmonologist clearance in a couple days. I would hate to have done all this for absolutely nothing.

What do they do at your cardiology appt?

Thank you all for your replies! Hopefully it’s just the ekg, and only the ekg I’ll need, but at least I’ll know what to expect in case anything comes back wonky on that! Thanks again! -

I am only one month into my 6 month pre op program. I finally got to speak with my nurse that knows the ins and out of insurance. She said I don’t have to lose a certain amount of weight, which I knew, but she said I can’t gain. I’m eating better, but I keep gaining and losing the same two pounds, and right now I’m on my period, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it, but do they not take into account water retention and genuinely things that aren’t really within our control? I only drink water and I sweeter decaf tea. I drink 64 oz a day. Plus my protein shakes. I am just terrified if I go in and I’ve gained even an oz, they’re going to kick me out of the program, even if I’ve been losing up until that point. I’m struggling mentally with all of this. Anybody have any advice or word to calm my nerves? You all have been wonderful in answering all of my questions. I have Indiana hip plus ( Medicaid) if that matters.

Thank you for replying! I just wanted to be prepared for what to expect! I’m glad they keep us busy these few months prior to surgery! It keeps me motivated and accountable! -

Just curious to know what goes on at the cardiology appt? I have one in September, but I just wasn’t sure what all that entailed. -

Hello, lovelies! I just had my consult with the surgeon a couple days ago, but unfortunately the nurse that makes all of my upcoming appts to the nut, pulm, etc is in vaca until next week so I didn’t get many of my questions answered. for those of you that have Indiana hip state plus bcbs: I wanted to know let’s say I’m trending downward in weight during my 6 month program, and go in and I’ve gained even a pound, or even an oz, will they deny me? My surgeon said likely not, but I’m not sure he actually knows. I know I don’t have to lose a specific amount of weight, but my concern is what if I gain during those 6 months? Ive looked at my insurance requirements for surgery, and it’s not overly specific, so I can’t exactly get answers through them. Just curious! not sure if it matters but I have uncontrolled high bp and I’m getting checked for sleep apnea, which I’m sure I have, just not on the books yet. I also have high cholesterol so I have at least two co morbidities.

Thank you so much! You are absolutely correct! I went in for consult yesterday and my surgeon told me it doesn’t necessarily matter if I gain or lose during my program. I am just wondering why it’s different for everyone, even if they have the same or similar insurance. But it relieved my fears. He said I have to quit vaping about 6 weeks prior if I remember correctly. Thank you for the kind and encouraging words 😊

Hi! I’m Emily, new here, so pardon me if this question has been answered more than once, or not in the right category. I swear I’ve looked all over for answers prior to asking. I have my first appt. With the surgeon Monday to begin the 6 month pre op program. I vape, well, stopped yesterday and I’m using patches and gum to wean off before end of July. I was doing well mentally until I learned that quitting almost always causes weight gain. Minimum of 5-10 pounds. I was told by a friend that I cannot gain any weight during the 6 month process but don’t have to lose a certain amount ( she went to the same surgeon I’m seeing) I am also learning how to eat better on top of all of this, and I’m so scared that when I quit nicotine all together, it’s going to inevitably cause weight gain. I don’t want to be kicked out of the program as soon as I start because of this. Would it be better to wait until I absolutely have to quit? Maybe that’s a stupid question. I just need encouraging words, anybody that has been down this path of quitting, whether you instead waited to quit a month or two before surgery, etc. I am so serious about taking my health back, and it’s hard enough to learn to cool and eat right without having to stress about this too. please help 🥺 thank you in advance! ps. Maybe this is trivial, maybe it’s not a big a deal as I’m making it, but even a fraction of a pound I gain could get me kicked out of the program.
