  1. Hi, I am just ding the research part of this long process. I was wondering if anyone had too good or too bad of an experience with this doctor. All opinions are welcome! If you have a special doctor, please share. Thanks.

What is your opinion on this?

Hey Sarah, Do you think they will charge you as much to fix this compliation if it happens?

What is your opinion on this?

Steph, thank you. I was on line till deep hours of the night last night researching and I couldn't say what you said better myself. Thank you. If the doctor doing the video didn't have his own agenda in advertising himself to perform your MGB, I might be more inclined to believe him. Besides that, I'd like to know what Mr Expert would recommend for those of us that didn't qualify for GBP? My BMI was not high enough. Would it have been a good idea to have gained more weight just so I could qualify? LapBand gave me hope to be able to do something more permanent than yo-yo dieting. I knew going into this that it might not last my whole life. But in the 10 years that apparently he is giving me for my band to fail, hopefully my habits will have changed enough that I won't be able to eat myself to death like I was working towards before. Besides that, why does he not mention any failure rates and complications for GBP? There are plenty out there. The possibility of dying on the operating table from GBP is higher than LB. Also - there is a greater possibility of regaining with GBP. The pouch can stretch. With the band, you can go back for adjustments. I could get hit by a car tomorrow...I better never leave the house so I'm safe.
  4. Hi, I think I will be a self pay too and it HURTS! Any way, how long has it been and how much have you lost? Any regrets?

    Dr. Spivak in Houston Texas

Hey Heather, he says on his site that we should expect 50% of the desired loss in the first 18 months and I thought that is way too slow (for me it will be like 50 lbs in 77 weeks!). You are doing great. Did it take that long to lose?

    I'm here to help...

I would love for you to be my buddy. I have not done it yet and am very interested. I know my HMO will not pay for it but I am going to ask the MD anyway. One big disappointing thing I saw was on Dr. Spivak's site where it said expect 50% of your goal to be achieved in the first 18 months and I think OMG that is way too slow! I have 100 lbs to lose. That means only 50 lbs in 77 weeeks which is less that 1 lb per week. That does not seem right!

    Arms?

I think everyone is going to have a different experience. I know mine will never look like Boo Boo's. Hers did not look bad even when she was heavy (heavier than I am now pre-op). My arms are going to look awful and the plastic surgery they do on them still leaves a long ugly mark. I guess we have to weigh all the options.

My Protein Shake Tried to Kill Me!

Glad you are doing better. Which doctor put you on pre-op protein shakes? What is in it (how do you make it?). I am new to this whole thing.

I am home from surgery from 9/5/08

Congrats! I am starting to research to see if BCBS of TX HMO may pay for this. What kind of shakes? Protein?
  12. See what a great job you have done already in just 4 days. Pain has to go away eventually. Keep it up and look at the end of the tunnel of pain.
