You've already lost 30-40 pounds ...... I would call that a Rousing Success !!!!! Are you writing down what you eat ? If you are,you can take your notes right to the dietician and they can steer you in the right direction. Might be a simple fix

    No.
There are horror stories and every last one is true. They are on the rare side of surgery outcomes, but they happen. Heck, I almost died after a tonsillectomy (tonsil removal) when I was 4, which in retrospect I should have skipped. But the 99% of folks it's not an issue for it was a great decision.
Only you can decide if it is worth it. If you're looking for us to decide for you, then NO it is not worth it.
Have weight loss diet's EVER worked for you? In the long run? I'd say no, since you are here asking us if WLS is worth it.
I was over 1/4 ton overweight and still believed I could do it without surgery. I had lost large chunks of it before gaining it back and then some. Then I realized I was deluding myself to believe I could lose it and keep it off. Eventually, I then decided WLS was my last resort since everything else failed eventually.
I committed 100% to WLS and in 2.5 years lost every last pound and then some. I lost 500+ pounds and it stayed lost. I had surgery, and had all sorts of pain early post-op. Over time I lost 500+ pounds and was more than happy. After 20+ years I am still a normal BMI. I still follow my plan, and still deliriously happy.
The horror stories are all true for those rare people. Fortunately, they were not true for me. Even if they were, I was prepared to deal with it. I would have been crazy not to take this last chance.
It's up to you to decide what cost you are willing to pay. You may not think the cost is worth it now, so you should wait. Eventually, it will be worth the cost, then you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
This is up to you and not random people on the internet.
    Good luck.

My son stopped by yesterday to see how I was and he started laughing at my baggy clothes ! LOL It was funny because I was still wearing some clothes from when I was 242 . Well ,I'm down to 191 now,so I figured it was about time to go to the Goodwill and buy some more "temporary" clothes. I am so used to shopping in the 2X section, it was hard to go down a size or two. My method of measuring is always to stretch it across my stomach , if that fits, I buy it. I started at the 2x ,hhmmm...WAY too big. I went to the 1X ... well ,what the heck? These are too big ,too ! I hit the XL section and thought "no way" .... but I'll be darned .... they fit !!! The main colors of my pre surgery wardrobe was always Dark blue and black. Not any more 😍 I got me some Bright colors !!!!! LOL Now the happiness I have on the inside shows up on the outside Got any stories of your first "downsizing" shopping trip ?

My first two weeks,I had uncontrollable diarrhea . Don't get scared - it's a very unusual happening and seems I was pretty much one of the unlucky ones. Other than that, pain was mild and only in the incisions . It went away fast. The worst part of it was being so tired . That lasted about 3 weeks and I was totally back to normal. Walking exhausted me,but I still did it. I'm 69 years old , and I'm lucky it was very easy. Good luck to you !

Ok-- raise your hand if you just tasted your skin ...... LOL I did - nope no bitterness. I do have a wonky sense of smell though .I just noticed that I smell things that I'm not sure are real or not. My taste buds also changed a bit. Now to me - cottage cheese tastes so salty . Maybe it's all connected somehow.

My opinion is quite different. I do agree with everyone that we are all going to have a slip at one point or another, but to eat carbs without tracking them, or eating a lot of carbs seems self sabotaging to me. For me, bread, rice and Pasta are out of the question. There are so many low carb delicious recipes out there that i dont even miss the carbs. Do i miss not eating the rolls at Texas Roadhouse??? Absolutely, but when i think about where i was, i never wanna go back to that. If you have self discipline to eat them every once in awhile, go for it but it is just not for me anymore.

I feel like I'm losing so slow , I think I'll be prepared for the plateau. I'm a month out from surgery , and lost 12 pounds. My dietician told me to put that scale away !!! It's the old saying "a watched pot never boils" LOL She told me to look for non scale victories when the losing is slow. So far my clothes are looser and I'm not sweating as much .Yeah for me ! LOL

KathyLev got a reaction from Eyoung222 in What do they do at your cardiology appt?
I went for an EKG at the hospital first. It came back slightly irregular,so I was sent to see a cardiologist . All he did was listen to my heart ( 5 minutes) and sent me for a stress test . The stress test was easy - took about 45 minutes. They gave me drugs thru an IV that made my heart beat faster and they took pictures of it. They did this a couple times till my heart beat 145 times a minute ,took a picture and I was done. Very easy

KathyLev reacted to catwoman7 in I Am Not Really Seeing The Weight Loss I Was Expecting
What were you expecting to lose? If you're looking for 30+ lbs the first month, that's pretty rare unless you're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life". For most of us "average" WLS patients, that much loss the first month is pretty unusual. Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range. Plus most people don't lose much the first week because of the "gain" from the IV fluids you get in the hospital (which of course is just water) - and then there's the infamous "three-week stall" that many of us experience, where you can go a couple of weeks (usually 1-3) without any loss, because your body is kind of recalibrating after the surgery - so you may be experiencing that as well.
you're not going to lose the weight any faster than if you ate the same thing without surgery. With the extreme calorie deficit we have the first few months out, you'd probably lose about the same regardless if you had surgery or not. The difference is, it's much more easy to sustain that deficit with the surgery. Most people probably could not go for months on end eating something like 800 calories. But with the surgery, you can. Your hunger is suppressed, your stomach is tiny, etc. The most I could ever lose before surgery was about 50-60 lbs. With this, I lost over 200, and have kept it off for eight years. No way could I have done that without the surgery.

I thought they were kidding when they told me they have a discount card for me. It's an actual card that says I'm a bariatric surgery patient ,and as a result of having a small stomach,I can only eat small quantities. Please let her adjust her portions and price it accordingly . We haven't gone out to eat in over 10 years , but I think I'd feel silly using it !
