Those that have had surgery this week

My follow-up went well the Dr. acted like he didn't remember telling me clear liquids for 2 weeks after surgery. I asked him how to continue he said you got the guidelines didn't you follow those or don't it's your choice........ I was like what? I'm going to full liquids till Friday or Saturday end then to mushie foods for 2 weeks like the general guidelines say. Myturn... Make sure you get a Protein drink you can mix wiht Water I got Isopure Alpine Punch not great but it's protein and I also had a protein shot that I got from WalMart looks like a test tube taste like liquid Jello a little to sweet for me but I used them.

kishaadamshall I agree with the others when I say that you had stuff comming out of one of your incisions I was a bit concerned you definately need that looked at. Sounds like you Dr. put some Fluid in at surgery and did an unfill when you went back to the hospital. I got antibiotics while in the hospital and 7 days worth after comming home. Please take it slow.

    Help 8 days to go

Some times it takes a couple days for input. The 8 I guess 7 days will go quicker than you think. I was inpaitent and live about 30 minutes from the hospital so I was driven down and stayed overnight and brought home the next day. I would say that if you have to fly to where your surgery is you may want to consider staying at a nearby hotel at least one night incase something comes up. Be sure to follow you Dr's pre-op instructions mine didn't require a pre-op diet so I did one kind of on my own Protein drink twice a day and a low carb dinner no snacking. Be sure to get clear discharge instructions especially since you will be so far away. We've been put on so many different pre and post op instructions you just want to make sure you understand clearly what your Dr. want you to do. Good Luck!

    Protein Shakes YUK!!

I bought some premixed ones to try and they are not very good one was Myoplex Light and I was suprised becasue I used the mix before that and it wasn't to bad. I used to take my envelope of mix to the local coffee shop and the girl there would make a smoothie for me.

    Protein Shakes YUK!!

I had been using Body Fortress got it at WalMart for around 13 bucks. I had been mixing it with skim milk and frozen fruit, peanut butter, yogurt someone on this sight mentioned adding a spoon or two of SF/FF pudding mix I had started doing that and really like it. I have also always mixed mine in a blender recently I bought a Magic Bullet as recommended by someone on this site the samller conteiners help m limit how much I make. The bullet also comes with several containers so you odn't have to wash up the blender every time you use it rinse the container an put in dishwasher wash off blades then next time use one of the other containers.
  9. My Dr. said I was a big guy with the smaller band, he like that band better. I don't know if I'd say I felt restriction but during the baruim swallow I drank it to fast and it took a bit of swallowing to get it down. I'm still on liquids but it seemed like the first few days it was like a funnel you know hoe you put liquid in and kind of have to wait for some air to come out befroe the liquid could go down. My first week I wasn't really hungry now I'm starting to feel hungry and hope that I can at least start on soup after my visit tomorrow, I've been clear liquids since 4/8 and my surgery was 4/10.

    Sites 1 week post-op

yes I laugh that I look like a warner bros cartoon when I drink water to comes out the holes. I'm doing well the only soreness is from the staples (I think) not sure why so many I did have a liver biopsi (sp) but I'd think they wouldn't do another cut. One nurse said sometimes they just need to go in a different spot then where they initally went.

All sounds great but doc said clear liquids no soup:sad:I plan some veggie chillie whan I get to mushie puree the tomato base I use and mush up the black beans I hope the spice doesn't get me I've read where some people have problems wiht spicy food after banding that would be very sad.

    straight to pureed foods?

Since that post I got Isopure Alpine Punch it can mixx wiht Water and is almost a clear liquid. I'm learning more each day on here form everyone. Instead of making one batch and drinking it as I feel like I make one scoop for breakfat and one for lunch and then I started having a protein shot at dinnertime. I really wasn't hungry for much of anything till this weekend so it was really hard to schedule any meals. I see the doc on Tuesday I hope he puts me on full liquids or even mushies. He probably won't remember telling me to stay away from soups or will think I should have known he meant soups with chuncks instead of any soup like tomato or cream of.... Thanks to everyone for the advise I'm learning all the time this is a great group to go through this with. I don't say often enough hope everyone who's be banded is doing ok and good luck to those about to be banded. We are on the last days of the month hard to believe.

    Pureed MEAT???

I'm still on clear liquids but when I'm allowed mushie foods do not plan on pureeing meat, tacos or anything like that. My plan is to eat beans, cottage cheese maybe some canned or develed meat or tuna. That's now who know's what I may crave and give in to. Right now I'd just like to have some tomato soup.
  17. JayTee562

    Fantastic recipe!

I love risotto but figured becasue of the white rice it would be a sticky food. I'm glad to hear that someone is eating it without getting stuck I'll have to try it next time I make it instead of just counting it out automatically.
  18. JayTee562

    How many do you have?

Right now I have 2 my first is the most recent weight that I felt comfortable and felt good about myself the second is 30 lbs below that which is 190 that is 9 pounds below what my max weight was suppose to be when I was in the USAF which I always struggeld with then I will evaluate from there the lowest I've been in my adult life was 184 and that was during basic traininng in 1981.
  19. Did anyone get instruction on liquids? I know it sound funny but since I was on liquids I initally kept water around and sipped on it throughout the day. Then nurse from my insurance company said that I was taking in to much and should have gotten instructions to only drink so much water every so often I think she said like 6oz a half hour or something. Before I was getting in a lot but did feel more bloated now I'm barely getting through a 32oz container a day.

    April Bandsters, anyone?

I'm doing well not much pain but not much energy either. I'm on clear liquids until at least 4/21 when I have my followup appointment. We've had cool and gray days till yesterday and today so walking outside hasn't been motivational till yesterday. I'm starting to feel hungry but for now doing pretty good living on SF popcicles, broth, protein drink and sf jello.
  21. Lemon no criticism here I'm stil on liquids so not much help with experience but remember you are still healing please be careful. YOu probably should have held off on the Water if you had that to soon aftr eating you may have washed a lot of what you ate through the upper pounc to the stomach. We will slip up and have to forgive ourselves even if others can't. Chalk this one up to an experience remember it and how you felt after words so that you will follow the rules. Good Luck and tell you husband support is what you need not tough love you'r tough enough on yourself.

Those that have had surgery this week

LOL...KImber I guess my sarcasim wasn't clear enough. I was planning on at least full liquids and was very disappointed when the doc said only clear liquids and no soups, I have 6 or 8 cans of family size cream of chicken, cream of mushroom and tomato soup that I'm not allowed to drink plus the milk that I had to throw out since I couldn't make the protein drinks I was planning on because of the clear liquid diet. Good part is few calories and until today wasn't very hungry anyway.
  23. JayTee562

Oh my stars you want what?!

After everyone's surgery I'll tell you my story

    Friday Weigh Ins

I'm glad that the fluids from surgery seem to be gone those first couple days when nothing was moving I was a bit disappointed, ok a lot, but now it seems to be gone. The pre-op nurse was very happy wiht the weight loss she had seen in my records but I'm not sure what weight she was comparing. Tuesday I have my post-op with the surgeon and it's at the office he did my initial consultation at and I weighed 328 we'll see what that scales shows next week. But for now my home scale says..............282
