  1. I totally am with you on the pain med thing. I didn't take my pain meds because I knew how my body would react (previous c-section and other surgery). I get extremely nauseated and I vomit with any kind of pain meds. I have a twin brother who gets flu-like symptoms when he takes pain meds (sounds like what you were suffering with) I definately think people should wait until they feel pain before taking their pain meds. JMHO

    Those that have been banded.....

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was standing in between my legs! What! That is TMI! I get the heebie jeebies thinking about me being totally NUDE on the operating table with my legs spread eagle!!!! Ugh!!!!!
  3. doc sent me home with liquid lortab and phenergren suppositories (which were WAY more valuable to me than the lortab)

    Travel Afterward

I had surgery at around 11:00 on 7/28 and I was in a car driving 6 hours home the next day, left around 1:00. It wasn't comfortable but I did it. We stopped every 2 hours so I could walk for 5 minutes. I had a pillow between me and the seatbelt. But . . . it will just depend on how you feel

I had all male nurses and they felt bad for me because I was on my period so they let me keep my undies on

    Starving help!

I don't know how strict your liquid diet is but on mine I was allowed creamed or blended Soup. One thing I did (I don't think it was cheating) was get lowfat turkey gravy (butterball brand) and make that with more Water than called for. I put a little mashed potatoes (like 1 tsp) and mixed it with the cup of brown gravy. It was the consistency of a creamed soup. It was really good but it didn't keep me full for long What can you have on your post-op diet?

    Starving help!

Okay, I will be honest with you. I have suffered for 2 weeks. I get to start mushies tomorrow and am ECSTATIC! I read where people said, "Protein shakes make me full." or they say, "I just wasn't hungry for the first few weeks." yada yada; well, it has been hellacious for me, but I have kept to it and not cheated. Some days are worse than others but just remember that the next week or two (however long your liquid phase is) is a crucial part of your lapband journey and your healing. Stay strong and try to stay busy. You will be very proud of yourself when it is all said and done. YOU CAN DO IT!

    Unanswered posts

It is not a problem. You are just nice and you don't want people to feel bad when no one answers. :smile2: I have the "nice" syndrome too. This website to so BIG and involved in so many topics that there is no way to answer all of them. It's okay

    What is the deal? *rant*

I have to agree with you. I don't post alot but I READ ALOT. I would swear there are those posting on here that have a personal or professional "agenda."

    "You weren't that big?!?!"

Yeah I definate know what you mean burniegal. I have lost 16 lbs and no one has really ask me yet but when they start asking, I think I will feel bad by not telling them what I did. I am wavering back and forth about telling people. Right now my sisters, sister-in-law, and mom know. I feel safe keeping it with that but when I start losing and some of my heavy friends come to me and say, "How are losing?", I'm afraid I will feel terrible not telling. On the other hand tho, I don't want ignorant people making judgments and talking about me behind my back. I guess I'll deal with it somehow, whatever I choose to do.

    First Fill today!!

No fill until 8/29 for me but I was told liquids for 7 days post fill. Two weeks is a LONG time! Heck, 7 days is a long time on liquids
  12. For me, it took walking, gas-x strips, and time. I am 6 days post-op and have minimal discomfort now. It has gotten a little bit better everyday. Hope you are pain free soon :smile2:
  13. I am instructed by my doc to be on full liquids/puree for 2 weeks post surgery. I had some liquified potato Soup a while ago. It was probably the consistency of a milk shake. I ate probably 1/2 a cup of it and my stomach started feeling weird and felt like it was "churning." I know that the liquid diet is supposed to keep your stomach from churning. I wonder what I did wrong?? Now I am worried about my band. Was the soup too thick? Someone said on here that liquid means, "liquid at room temperature." Is that so? B/c I'm sure that my potato soup is more of a baby food consistency at room temp. Anyway, anyone have any thoughts?
  14. Thanks for the fast reply  I could get it through a straw. It was also seasoned more than I have had since surgery. That could have something to do with it. It definately wasn't bland. My stomach feels like its settling down now but I still don't want to do anything to mess this up.
  15. It sounds like gas pains to me I was banded on the 28th and am feeling pretty well except for those lingering, stabbing, gas pains. My gas pains are mainly localized in my left shoulder. Supposedly the reason it hurts to bad is because the gas is somehow causing nerve pain. I will think i need to burp and then instead of burping I will have an awful gas pain. I am 4 days post op and they are better today. I hope it gets better for you soon!
  16. I can't wait for mushies!!!!!!!! IDK about the hamburger meat tho. Your doc may have defined in differently but my doc said that mushies are "anything you can smash through with a fork." I bet it sure tasted good tho! I am only 3 days post op and I am HUNGRY! I didn't think I would be as hungry as fast, oh-well. I will survive. Good luck with your mushies! Have fun.
  17. I had surgery today with a HH repair. I also had no idea that I had a HH. I am not taking pain meds except for tylenol b/c they always make my nauseous/vomit, I am on phenergren and gas x strips as well. I do have pretty bad shoulder pain and pain when I get up and move and such. I am definately in pain but not crying or writhing or anything like that (hopefully that won't come ). I am lying propped up on my side with an ice pack on my stomach, drinking ice Water and walking every 30 minutes or so for 4 - 5 minutes. Just glad the surgery is over!

    July 28th, my band day!

I am also to be banded today :smile2: I leave for the surgery center in less than 2 hours. Very excited! I haven't slept much the past 2 nights just thinking about it all. I will be very relieved when it's over. I know adjusting to the band will not be a piece of cake (cake, h/h) but I feel like I am ready to start this journey. Hope your surgery goes very smoothly and your recovery is just as smooth!
  19. I have been trying every broth imaginable trying to find one that is tasty. I found one that tastes like Ramen noodles chicken flavored (without the noodles of course ) It's Orrington Farms Chicken Flavored Soup Base and Food Seasoning. It was in the soup isle at my local supermarket. It's in a jar and you mix 8 oz of water with 1 tsp and nuke for 1.5 min. It's great!

    July 1st Surgery Stories

Hey Mary, My sister was banded in 2005, lost 85 lbs and is doing great with her band. She still follows the program and stays in touch with her doctor. I truly feel like many many successful bandsters just don't get on the boards anymore. Hope this puts you at ease a little

    popping in to say hi

We are glad to have you! I too had to reschedule, I was originally scheduled for July 2nd but will be banded on July 30th, yipee!

    July 2009 Dates

Not anymore Son gave me the flu. I will have to reschedule surgery date. I believe it will be July 30 or 31st. I should still be a July bander
  23. I am scheduled to have the band in 3 days and I had a pretty bad freak out session earlier today. I say it is normal to stress out towards the end, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't go through with it. I mean I am a believer in intuition and premonitions but try to decipher if your nerves and apprehensions are normal (cold feet) or if your "gut" (no pun intended h/h) is really telling you "don't do it!" Good luck with your decision :rolleyes2:

    How quick

I'd say go for it! You may want to throw in a Multivitamin but as long as you are getting your protein in and drinking your Water then I think it would give you a great headstart! You can get your veggies and fruit in with the 1 meal a day  I wish I had started before my pre-op.
