I had my surgery 8-29-08. Afterward, I had rotor cuff surgery and am now recovering from foot surgery. My hope is that after my foot is healed, I can start excercising. Yes, I've been lazy about excercising in between. I am dealing with accepting my flab and am bothered by my sagging chin. But I do have to remember that I can now control my diabetes with my diet, can finally get into Missy sizes, and have been told that I look younger. Best of all: I am so much happier! It's been a long time since I have been on this site and just saw that my ticker is way off. I have lost about 75 pounds and have 25 to go. I'd like to lose those 25 pounds, but I know it will get harder to get to that goal the closer I get to it. I'll keep trying ....... Good Luck with the exercising. You are doing great!!!

Orea and Angel---Thank you for the sweet notes. Both brought tears to my eyes. I miss Casper so much, but am thankful he is not suffering. After he was gone, I told our sweet vet that Casper was on the Rainbow Bridge. Our vet is so sweet, she and the staff had been sniffling all day about what had to be done. They are all so compasionate. Orea, if I lived close to you, I would try to help you out with your kitties. I swore I would not get another cat again. My dogs didn't like Casper and he sure didn't like them. I know you are worried about where you and your husband may have to move. It will be hard to take them all with you. I had to tranquilize our cat and dog for a trip one time. Maybe your vet can suggest what you could do. Angel, just hold on to your sweet little cats. You know, when they come to live with us, they are so little and vulnable. It seems like you have forever to spend with them, then before you know it they have aged right along with you, only faster. Every time I have lost a pet, I decide that I'm not going to get another. After time, well.......... Thank you both for the condolences. Theresa -

Got back from Louisana Tues. Had so much fun! Was a long ride though. I had to sit in the very back seat with all the luggage because I get very anxious and try to be a back seat driver. One of the other girls had to sit up front because she gets car sick. What a fine lot we were. The trip was great, but being with friends was best. Since I retired, I don't get to see all the friends I had at work very often. With the economy the way it is,I think I should have kept working. I very sadly had to have my 14 year old cat euthanized on Wednesday. I found him in the middle of the street in front of our house when he was so tiny and helpless. Casper was a white blue eyed deaf kitten. The vet said that she felt like he had cancer. I always feel like there could have been more that we could do,but I didn't want him to suffer any more than he already had. Still having trouble with pbing. I had a pretty hard time while we were in Louisiana. All you can eat buffets were just about more than I could stand. I did put way too much on my plate. Just wanted to try everything. Did do better the next night. Just a little and treated myself to a little dessert. I've rattled on way too long. Hope I didn't bore everyone. Till next time----- Theresa -

Susan---I really think my pain is due from the rotater cuff. I can only move my arm in certain ways. No matter what the reason is for the pain, I have to find out and get it fixed. Seems that when I turned 50, I just started falling apart. Hopefully with the exercise(Zumba) or whatever I have to do, I will get healthier, stronger, and feel better about myself. Thanks for responding to my post. Judy---I bet you feel a 110% better if you have taken those bandages off. I am so happy for you. People will not even recognize who you are. What fun! I know you are eager to get back to Zumba and all the other exercises. I may look into water aerobics, too. Texas gets really HOT during the Summer and I would welcome the water. Has anyone heard from Joanne? I'm not sure how long she was going to be gone. Talk to you all soon---- :scared2: -

Hi JB--- Thanks for the reply. Do you go to a gym or do you have DVDs? I had never even heard what it was about until this week. Just sounds like something I would like. I am taking a little trip to Louisiana with several girlfriends, but I plan to check on the exercise at the gym ASAP when I get home. Good to hear that your surgery was a success and you are on the mend. I think I will need a whole body lift if I ever lose all my weight. MiMi:tongue2: -

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in quite some time. I spent a while reading and catching up with everyone's posts. Good to see we have some new bandsters and future bandsters. Welcome to all the newbies. I have been having a rough time sticking to my food plan. I haven't been to my doctor since November and am beginning to think I may need to go in for a fill. I am having problems with pbing after I eat. I think I am eating far too fast. Then there are times that I am not hungry at all and skip meals. I am not losing any weight and have come to realize that I will have to do some exercise if I want to start the ball rolling again. Does anyone know about the zumba exercise program? I watched it on U-Tube and it looks like fun. It's dancing to fast paced music. I plan to go to the gym here and check it out. They have a big banner advertising it. I had an MRI on my right shoulder yesterday. I didn't think I was claustrophic, but have since decided I was. Don't know the results yet. I have had problems with my shoulder for quite a while. Then, I was walking my son's 95 lb. American Bulldog. When he gets ready to take off, you better be ready to go too. He jerked the leash and I felt something pop in my bad shoulder. I kept thinking after a while it would feel better, but it is now bothering me a lot. I hope it doesn't mean surgery. Maybe physical therapy will help. Feels good to be writing and touching base with everyone again. Love, MiMI(Theresa):grouphug: -

Elayne---I would enjoy seeing the needlework you do. Will you give us your website? I enjoy counted cross stitch, but my eyes are not as strong as before. I've seen the big standing magnifyers in catalogs. I might give that a try. I knowyou will do well during and after your LB. You have really prepared beforhand and that is very wise. You will be in my prayers. Katy---I'm sorry for all your suffering. So glad you got your band out and are on the mend. I sure am learning alot from all you have been going through. I have a bum shoulder, also. I have not been to the DR., keep putting it off. Good Luck with the tummy procedure. Indio Girl---Where have you been? Haven't heard from you in quite some time. Hope all is well with you. Joanne---I know you are so excited to be going on your trip. What an honor to be asked to speak at the quilter's group when you get to Korea and to write an article for a magazine, too. Stay safe on your trip and enjoy all the sights, especially that sweet baby. -

Hi Househuntress--My LB nurse told us that she keeps 2 cans of greenbeans by her recliner. At night when she is sitting and watching TV, she gets her cans and and lifts them up and down at her sides to tone her arms. She has lost 90 lbs. and looks great. I've not tried this, but it makes sense. I really don't think our wings will completly disappear without surgery. For myself, I would rather have some saggy, but toned, wings rather than have a scar under each upper arm. If you ever find a solution to this matter, please let us all know. You have done great by losing 70 lbs. I've lost 40 and am at a standstill. I have to work hard not to chew quickly, too. I have found that if I'm really hungry, I tend to eat fast. Then I remember what I'm supposed to be doing and slow down. Maybe part of the answer is to eat when you are hungry and not when you are ravenous. My Dr. said to only eat when you are hungry and then do it slowly. I think I am going to put a note in my plate reminding me to EAT SLOWLY! Good Luck and let us know how things are going MiMI(I'm from TEXAS too) -

Hi Frisky 1---I can fully understand what you are going through. I have found that I eat too fast and don't chew my food throughly. I forget and eat like I did before my LB surgery. When I do eat more slowly, I find that I can feel when I have eaten enough. When was your last fill? I too, have had major constipation. I take a stool softener almost every day. If I do this, I do eventually have a BM. I am not talking about a laxative. I take the generic. Remember not to drink right before, during, and after your meal. That one is a hard one for me. I am so used to drinking with my meals, but I find if I do that, I usually do lose what I have eaten. I'm not sure if my input will help you. I would certainly contact my Dr. if I continued having these problems. You may need to have a little unfill. I hope these suggestions will help. As always, what may work for me, may not work for you. Good Luck, and let us hear how you are doing. MiMi -

gone 4 ever--I never thought about the TicTacs. Good idea! Maybe I might not eat as many of those at one time, like I would with a big bag. Long 2b Thin---I understand exactly what you mean about the 100 cal. snack packs. I used to keep a box at my desk --- I never ate just one pack. Katydid---I am so glad that you are on the mend and are on your way to being healthy again. I know you will feel so much better after the rest of your staples are out. -

Hi Lynn1215--- Sounds as though you and I have the same problem. I have good restriction at present, but have been making bad choices with my food picks. I have particulary had a sweet tooth lately. I love hot cinnamon candies. When I get started on those, I can't seem to stop until they are all gone. I have been having a hard time with drinking water as I should, also. When I do eat the right things, my restriction is so good that I can't eat much. Later, I want to start eating the wrong things again. Maybe we can help each other with these problems. Or maybe, someone out there can give us some suggestions. I do know the band is not going to do it for us. We have to use it as a tool, not an answer to overeating. I think we have to get our minds in gear, again, and get down to business. Good Luck and let's get back on track. MiMI -

Hi everyone---It's been a while since I have posted. I wanted to tell ya'll about my Dr. visit this week. I had had a fill 2weeks before and I could feel the restriction quite well. Last weekend, I began pbing every time I ate anything. Even a sip of water would cause me to pb. On Tuesday I was able to get into see the Dr. After talking to him, he said he thought I was eating too much at one time. He stepped out of the room and came back with a urine specimen cup. He held it up and said that I should eat no more than what I could fit into a cup the size of the specimen cup. That is not much. I have cut down the size and amount of food and I am not pbing and actually am feeling much better. I did not get an unfill and went home feeling encouraged. I am really paying attention to the amount of food I eat and have found that I can eat much less and be satisfied. Joanne--Boy, that blueberries and cream is a pretty quilt. I love blueberries! Everyone's quilts are beautiful and I want to thank you for sharing another facet of your lives with us. I enjoy sewing. I don't seem to make the time to sit down and sew very often, now that the children are grown. My dh and sons built me a little one room house (no plumbing) in our back yard so I could do crafts and all. They put a porch on it for me to sit and rock in my rocking chair and relax. I really enjoy going in my little house to play---I never had a playhouse when I was a child---Guess that's why I it so much. Katy--I have been thinking of you and will continue to keep you in my prayers for a safe and speedy recovery. To all of you---I want to thank you for all the great info I have learned from you. I always look forward to checking this site and reading what you all have to say. O-Daisy---I wish you all the luck with your new procedure. I will also be praying for your safety. -

Katy, it sounds to me that you have a good GP. He must care very much for his patients. I have found that I would rather go to my GP or PA than go to a specialist. My GP takes time to listen and a specialist seems to be cut and dried and then speeds on out of the exam room. It was good that you had your report with you. You had proof of exactly what was done. I realize that everyone has to see and have procedures done with a specialist sometime, but a GP is more familiar with your lifestyle and all. I like to think that with every experience, we learn to stick up for ourselves and others. We would not be where we are if we had not been where we were. Take care and I sure hope you will be on the mend real soon. Blessings, MiMi :rose: -

DAnna---by chance is that you in the American Statesman? If so, You have done FABULOUS with your weight loss. I am so proud for you. Tell us all about your journey during your weight loss. We haven't heard from you in a long time. What was the name of your excercise program? I need some encouragement. I have lost about 40 pounds and I am just stuck there. MiMi22:mad2: -

Long 2b Thin---I have been thinking about getting a Food Saver. You have a good idea about putting 1 portion in. Then there is no temptation to have a 2nd helping. Now that we are empty-nesters, my DH and I are trying to be more aware of the amount of food that does NOT have to be cooked. Thanks! MiMi -

Good to hear from you Joann. I have been wondering where you were. Glad you are on top of your eye problems. I have a pen friend that does have macular degeneration. In her case, nothing can be done. She enjoys the old way of keeping in touch (pen and paper). Sadly, she has a very hard time reading the handwriting. Glad you have gotten a fill and you have better restriction. I go for a fill this week. Hope it helps, because I am having a really bad time with eating too much. Seems like when I get started, I can't stop until it's all gone. I guess I will have to start at the beginning again. I really think that my problems are more mental than being hungry. Too many "finishing my plate" when I was a kid, I guess. You would think that at the age of 55, I would be able to let go of this part of my childhood. Take care and let us hear from you more often. You always have good input. MiMi
