I am now 9 days post surgery. I've been lucky enough not to have experienced pain and to have had a relatively smooth journey so far. I've started to drive now which feels comfortable and and I'm moving around quite easily. I am however moving quite deliberately and taking it slowly still no matter how well I feel i have to remind myself i have had major surgery. I am a little tired come evening - I am pacing myself in place of pushing myself. I have 5 incisions which are now itchy owing to the healing. I'd love to get back into the pool but will give it a few weeks more - ill speak to my surgical team first. Thinking about you guys who have had a rough time - hang in there - it will pass xx

£@h - how are you doing? I so wish i could talk to you in person. Lets be lar about something - we have all gone through a major life change that out bodies and minds might take a little time to catch up with and get used to. Our surgery is not a cure - rather it is a tool to support our decision to become healthier. What it is not is another tool with which to beat ourselves up with. I think sometimes and depending upon the circumstances, we sometimes distort the meaning of strength. I think preparing food, resisting the temptation in whatever form, becoming tearful and recovering from that shows great strength from someone who is battling the disease of obesity. We have had a longstanding relationship with food, albeit one that is dysfunctional. The food we trusted in a complex way because it was always available for us when 'needed' it to manage an emotion or whatever else. We now have something new (our surgery) to support us but it may take some of us a little time to wholly trust in and work with our new surgery and depend upon it like we could our food. It is perhaps true to say that we may all experience blips in the road on this journey. You demonstrated great strength in resisting, carrying on and sharing your experience. You got this honey, and at the times you don't - we are here to lift you. Stay with it my friend and thanks for sharing xxx

Awwww - well done, Lizrios. I'm so pleased you have come through the surgery and it has gone smoothly for you. I know you were really quite worried - you did it! xx
-
Whoop, Whoop - congratulations and well done you guys - you done it! Hope you are comfortable xx
-
Happy birthday, Carla! Sending hugs and big love xx❤️

Good luck and congratulations for those of you who have surgery today xx

Awww - Maris; i wish you comfort and peace of mind. I think the prep re food i was provided was very good. I was given a A4 booklet type thing for the next 4 weeks post surgery and another for the for weeks following and another for after that. It describes what can be eaten, the texture (all pureed), the portion size, how it should be eaten, what can be drank, when it should be drank, how it should be drank etc. I wish i could upload it here but I cannot use this site too well other than to post messages. I hope your nutritionist is helpful xx

Hi Amanda - most if not all of us June buddies who have had our surgery have not really had post op pain - I hope that will be your experience. I think the thing about sipping water may just be a matter of mind over matter - it really is not so hard or daunting. Promise. xx
-
Oh Cat - you poor thing! It's enough having to negotiate your new bypass without the added irritation and frustration of an allergic reaction under these circumstances! So sorry that has been your experience. I hope you feel more comfortable soon. Sending you virtual hugs xx

Hi Liziros. I think it is natural to feel a number of emotions just before your surgery, one of those being fear. I would not say I was scared because I had had much conversation with my medical team and surgeon. In fact, i spoke to my surgeon the night before my surgery and i think owing to that, i was sufficiently contained and satisfied that it would be ok. I think i was a mixture of a little nervous and excited when i was advised my surgeon was ready to operate but every one, including the anaesthetist, was so jovial and light in mood that it was hard not to feel more relaxed above anything else. There are a small number of us now who have had the surgery and have come through it the other side in good spirits. I hope you can take some comfort in that xxx

You guys are the real stars of the show! to those of you who had surgery yesterday - whoop whoop! 7 hours surgery was a massive marathon of an op and I felt a little emotional when you said you awoke happy. I am so grateful for your surgeon - sounds like they did a great job xx. Hey Liziros - I'm right here and have been posting daily 😎. All is well here and I'm feeling pretty good. I managed to sleep on my stomach yesterday, which is my favoured position and slept for a LONG time - I've been sleeping well anyway but missed sleeping on my tummy! You're up next, Liz - don't worry honey. I hope the post op stories have offered you some comfort and reassurance. I'm taking in water pretty well and am managing to get in the pureed foods a little more each day. I'm so pleased with the decision I have made. I am 5 days post op and inclusive of the pre-op diet, I am 20lbs down xx

Whoop Whoop - your turn, Mira. Cant wait to greet you on the other side honey xx

Awwwww - David, I sure am glad to see yo on the other side. Pleased things have gone well for you and that you are up and about - I know they try to get you up and about as soon as possible. I had my surgery on 1st and am still doing ok. I too am pacing myself and can now drink almost the required minimum litre and a half of water per day and am also getting better at getting in pureed proteins. Went out for a longer walk today to get some banana's to puree with protein yoghurt - it was a longer walk but i just rested up a little afterward. Getting stronger with each day. For those of you having surgery on 6th - go on - you got this xx
-
Liziros, Maris and all of you who have your surgery today - we are all rooting for you and cant wait to hear how you all are doing. You got this and your surgeons have got you 🤗. Southernmomofive - you rock! Go on girl - go smash that pre-op diet xx

Food funeral..... I had ice cream and boy did I bury the hell out of it 🤣

Maggie - I am doing ok. I didn't need any pain relief following the dose they provide you out of surgery and feel very lucky to be generally pain free. I came home yesterday and feel comfortable; I am here alone and actually quite like the peace and quiet of settling into my new routine. Actually, I have my 2 adorable little kitties to keep me company x. I'm doing ok I think - I have my first follow up with the nurse tomorrow. I'm very excited for myself and all you beautiful people xx

Hi Maggie - its so very nice to have you join us here. Of course you are feeling a sense of loss; we have had a long standing relationship with food and food was reliable and available if we wanted it, despite it ultimately making us so very miserable. You are grieving the loss of a deep and complicated relationship. Let it go - its a bad relationship and your surgery will support a much healthier union between you and food. I had my surgery on 1st June, having completed a two week liquid diet. Its hard - there is no getting away from it. You are going to have to dig really deep honey; its only 2 weeks and you will soon be there. You can do it - believe you got this. Dear Carla - try not to spend too much time worrying about the weight you are not losing at this stage. Maybe follow the advice your medical team has given you without your own modifications and see what happens honey. Relax beautiful girl - don't stress at this early stage xx For all of you who have surgery tomorrow, I am so with you in spirit and prayers. Can't wait to see you on the other side - 🤗

Hi guys - I'm 3 days post op and doing ok. I don't have any pain so not a need or pain relief and am now managing to sip more water (I am determined to stay hydrated - it's so very important!). I'm moving around but ensuring that I pace myself. David and Jaz - my thoughts and prayers are with you tomorrow - you will b fine guys. I hope you have found the posts of us who have ad the surgery over the last few days of some comfort to you. Can't wait for you to join us on the other side 🤗😘
-
Hey Catlady - welcome to the other side honey! im so glad you are doing well and are now at home haling. The urinating thing is normal - i had that but can now urinate just fine. Carla honey - we are all here for you and each other. Maris - its soon your turn and you are going to smash it girl xxx
-
I do not have the support of my family so you all mean a lot. I have to say, i am very comfortable here healing in peace. I do have my two little kitties mind you 🤣
-
By the way, i have been sent home from the hospital with some liquid paracetamol (i think that is what you all call tylenol) and ibruprofen for any pain and inflammation. I also have two weeks worth of anti-blood-clot injections and two weeks worth of tablets to line the stomach which melt in your mouth. I also have anti-thrombosis socks and my first follow up with the nurse is on Monday (four days post surgery).
-
Whoop Whoop - congratulations and welcome to the other side! Thanks so much for sharing - i think its so important for others to hear the experiences of others who are now post op. I am so rooting for you all - it has been so rewarding to share with you., my June bariatric family 😘😘
-
Thanks, Carla; it is good to be home. Its your turn soon 😘xx

No pre surgery diet 😳 Is this normal?.. or ok?
sharonwg replied to Mari3997's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Mari - I had the bypass on 1st June (two days ago) and im now home. I had no gas pain at all and had no need for pain killers post surgery. There is another thread here on this site called 'June buddies'. Why not join us there - its for those who are having their surgery this month but anyone can post a comment really. I don't regret a thing - just glad the surgery is over 😘 -
Hi guys - im home now and doing fine. No pain though a tiny bit of a sore throat from the tube but that is normal. I have seen on here that come people have spoken of up to 10lbs in weight gain directly after surgery. I have not experienced that. im sipping more water and have managed a third of a weetabix with milk and a few spoons of lentil soup. I cant wait to hear how those of you who had surgery on 2nd and 3rd have got on xx
