  1. I was not allowed to bathe until two days post op. And was told not to mess with the insicion area.
  2. I spent two days at the hospital and had to wear the hospital gown. I do not think they would mind if you broght your comforts from home (blanket).
  3. I was banded on November 11 and I feel tired, weak, and a little bit of pain. But I feel so much better than when I was in the hospital. I am totally taking my time to recover and will be off work for two weeks. Good luck to you and try not to rush it.

    wanted to ask

My doctor left the decision to me and I was banded on November 11 with a 10cc Lap Band. My doctor pre-filled it during the surgery with 10cc and I am doing well. As far as returning to work, there is no way I could have gone back after a couple of days. I am still in pain and I am sleeping off and on. However, the pain meds help and so does the walking. I am getting better and I am feeling stronger. I took two weeks of from work to focus on my recovery...no stress...just plenty of relaxing. I return to my stationary job on November 24 and then work three days and have another four days off.
  6. I had my surgery on November 11 and left the hospital November 13, because of pain management. I have reactions to certain pain meds and was limited in what I could take for relief. I am at home now and I continue to take the liquid Loritab. I take it when I need it. When the pain was unbearable, I also questioned why I did this procedure. But every day I am getting stronger and feeling better, thus I am happy with my decision to have the procedure. I did take two weeks off work for my recovery, which I am so thankful I did. I continue to walk and I am feeling better. It just takes time to recover. Best of luck to you.
  7. I did not have to take my clothes off, but I did have to take my shoes and socks off.
  8. Whatever you do don't give up. There is plenty of support here on this board and you are never alone. I would ask the same questions as the other people have posted. How much exercie are you doing? Are you losing inches and maybe gained muscle? How is your Protein intake? Are you sticking to a fill schedule when you need it?

    New here from Redding CA

I had to complete a 6-month supervised diet with weigh ins. I completed a psyche eval. Those two items were required by my insurance company. The bariatric doctor required that I attend a pre-op support meeting. Complete an introduction meeting. Complete a nutrition class. Then the bariatric doctor required me to complete an upper GI and a Hpy-lori test. Plus I had to have had a recent mamogram, which I always have annually. Then I had to complete bllod and urine work, an ekg, and a chest x-ray, which was completed four days before my surgery. Hills Physcisians administers the Blue Shield insurance program in my area. I actually have Blue Shield Net Value Calpers.

Hi photofire: I was just banded on November 11 and I have Blue Shield (Calpers) Hills Physicians. Once I completed the insurance requirements, my primary care doctor and surgeon submitted my paper work to the insurance company for Lap Band surgery. The paper work was sent October 14 and I was approved on October 15. It all happened vey quickly.

    Small or large band?

I am 5'5" and my doctor placed a 10cc band in me. I asked for the 14cc band, but she felt that it was not necessary.
  12. I realize this post is a year old and I am sure kimmi had surgery by now. But for me, I could not go back to work a couple of days after surgery. I know there are some people who have the energy and stamina to do that, but that is not me. I am taking two weeks off work and I see the doctor post-op on November 26th.
  13. Well it is a done deal. I was banded on November 11 and I am now at home recovering. I live 88 miles away from Alta Bates Hospital in Oakland, so although my surgery was slated for 9:40 am, I arrived at the center at 7:10 am. At check in the nurse took my vitals and set up an I.V. Then my doctor spoke to me; followed by the anesthesiologist and the surgical nurse. They asked my permission to allow Lap Band proctors to view my surgery and I agreed. I feel the more knowledgeable people in the surgery room the better for me. Since everyone was ready to go, we started the surgery early. The surgical nurse, the anesthesiologist and I walked to the operating room. I climbed onto the operating table, whereupon the anesthesiologist said I am giving you something to help you relax. And the next thing I know, I am awake in the recovery room. The first thing I ask is “Is there a band in me,” which the nurse said yes. In recovery, I was in moderate pain so they gave me pain meds through the IV. However, I have a real hard time tolerating pain meds. I get dizzy and nauseated. I am not sure what time I was taken out of recovery and placed on the surgical ward floor. Once in my room, my vitals were constantly checked. My blood was drawn every three hours, since during the operation my spleen was bleeding. I ended up staying an extra day in the hospital and went home on November 13. Again, it was hard to manage my pain, because of my sensitivity to pain meds, of which some have a tendency to make me break out in hives. Anyway, I am at home recovering. I am getting lots of rest. Passing lots of gas and drinking plenty of fluids. I have diarrhea now, which sucks, but I am doing great! The doctor placed the New Generation Lap Band, which holds 10cc. The doctor pre-filled the band with 3cc during the surgery and everything is working well. I passed the upper GI swallow test and the bleeding in the spleen has stopped. I am taking two weeks off from work to recover and manage the liquid diet phase that I am on. I am so excited I was able to have the procedure done this year, before the holidays.
  14. Emily good luck to you! It will not be that much longer for you. You are so close to completing the process. :-)

  16. I was approved for surgery on October 15th and I had my surgery on November 11. I did pre-op lab work on November 7, which consisted of an ekg, blood and urine tests, and a chest x-ray. I had completed several other lab test requirements prior to insurance approval. My insurance is Blue Shield/Hills Physcians.
  17. I was just banded on 11/11/08 with a 3cc prefilled New Generation Lap Band, which holds 10 cc. I feel great restriction and I am able to keep fluids down so far.:Dancing_sorry:
  18. Hello everyone: Just a quick update; I was banded on 11/11/08 of this week and everything went very well. Dr. Kim from Alta Bates performed the procedure and she had Dr. Uphday with her as well as proctors from Lap Band. I have a 10cc new generation badn which Dr. Kim pre-filled with 3cc. There was some bleeding with my spleen during surgery, but I am well. I ended up staying at the hospital an extra day, because the pain meds were making very sick to my stomache. I have issuee with RX pain meds. Anyway, gas pain was hurtful, but was releived with walking and pain meds. I passed the swallow test at the hospital and I am now on liquids. I am thankful I took two weeks off from work, because honestly, I would not have been able to go back to work right after the surgery. I am doing well at home, walking, resting, drinking, and passing gas. I feel better at home than at the hospital. No place like home for recovery. My follow appointment is on 11/26/08.:tongue2:
  19. Hi Teal: I am doing well. I am drinking lots of fluids. Taking in plenty of sf popcycles to numb my roaring stomache growling. I am trying to focus on my protein intake and fluids. So far so good.
  20. Well, I see my doctor two weeks post op the day before Thanksgiving, so I am hoping I can eat mushies by then. If there doctor approves me to move forward to the stage two diet, I will be able to eat mushies. I will cook a small turkey and blend it. I will mash potatoes with gravie in a blender. At least I hope so.
  21. I also suffered terrible dry heaves and nausea, because of gas paing and pain meds. I went home with an anti-nausea patch behind my ear and I have two more patches just in case. My gas pain was hurting so bad, and because I have a hard time tolerating pain meds, I ended staying an extra night a the hospital. I came home from the hospital yesterday and I am feeling better. I have no gas pains. I have four incisions and the port incision is the most painful, but I am taking liquid Loritab for that. I am doing so much better the third day out from surgery.
  22. Hi Laurie:

My surgery went well with Dr. Kim and her crew. I decided to have the new generation Lap Band inserted. It is a 10CC band, which Dr. Kim pre-filled with 3 CC during surgery. I did not have any swelling and the swallow test went very well. I am on the phase I liquid diet. I ended staying at Alta Bates for two days, because I was having an issue with pain managment. I am allergic to several different pain meds and it was hard to get the pain under control without being nauseated.

Other than that, I am doing well. I am now at home. I feel more rested at home. I am making sure I get my fluids in and I am going on little walks in my apartment.

I have no issue with gas pains at home, but while at the hospital the gas pain hurt. The walking really helped with the gas pain. I have a follow up appointment with Dr. Kim the day before Thanksgiving. I am also glad I took two weeks vacation time off from work.

  24. Well, I had my upper GI in October and it was tollerable. I had to drink this nasty pop rock fizzy stuff, which was followed by this think chalky white stuff. Over all the fluids I had to drink for the test were gross. While drinking the fluids I had to turn my body at different angles of the x-ray table. I think it took about 30-minutes to complete. The doctor that performed the procedure was very nice and so was his assistant. My tests results were good and I am having surgery tomorrow morning.
  25. Well tomorrow is my surgery day, November 11 in the morning. I lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet and I am hoping that was enough to shrink my liver to do the procedure. I just don't want them to open me up and then I wake up in the recovery room without my Band. Wish me luck and I will check in over the weekend.
