  1. It's normal to feel restriction right out of surgery, because of the swelling. My doctor prefilled my 10cc band with 3cc at the time of surgery, so I am really feeling the restrictions. Best of luck to you!!!!
  2. I had this same issue, which I don't get. It started after I left the hospital, so two days post op and it went on and on and on. I don't get how being on a liquid diet can give you that much diarrhea, but it did for me. It was terrible. No problems now other than the gas.
  3. Hey Bobbie, I was banded on 11/11/08 too and I am down 25 pounds according to the doctor's scale. We are twins. Good job! I won't have my first fill until right before Christmas.
  4. I would talk to my doctor about this. He/she will tell you when you can start solids.

When to stop losing weight- BMI?

Well I am way to new to be at this point, but I prefer talking to my doctor about what she thinks is the best healthy weight I should achieve. I just feel better when I talk to the bariatric team, rather than co-workers. Good luck. And Congrats on all the weight loss. You are an inspiration to me.

    Post op diet phases

Hi, I was banded on 11/11/08 was on clear liquids week one and week two full liquids. Today was my first post-op doctor appointment and my doctor said to start mushies. I believe the mushie stage is either one or two weeks in length depending how I tolerate the stage.
  7. Hi Teal: Sorry I missed you this morning. Dr. Kim was really quick and I arrvied early. I left the office at 9:05 am and then headed off to work. I am doing really well. Pre op weight 251 weight this morning on the doctor's scale 228. BMI 37.9.

Dr. Kim said if I continue to do well, I will not need to see her on 12/10/08, but would see her the week of X-Mas for a fill if needed.

I hope all is well with you. Have a great Thanksgiving.

  8. It is an individual thing. My doctor told me two weeks off. I had planned to take two weeks off anyway, because I take longer to recover. I am 44 and I don't bounce very quickly from surgery. This was my 11th surgery procedure. I actually felt better after 7-days, but I am so glad I took two weeks off.

    GNC products

I love to shop at GNC and I take advantage of their gold card. I have a very low tolerance for anything that is milk based, so I like the New Whey bullets and the Isopure drinks. My tummy tolerates both.
  10. I agree! I noticed I feel more confident and I that is with a 25 pound weight loss so far. I suspect once all me excess weight is off, my confidence is going to soar.

    Tomorrows my surgery!

Hello. I had surgery 11/11/08 and it took me about 7 days to really feel better. The first 3-4 days were the pits, but it really did get better. Wait and see, in no time you will feel so much better.
  12. I was banded 11/11/08 and this is my first week back to work. I recommend that you get all your grocery shopping doing ahead of time. Have your doctor pre-fill your post op meds for you. If you have a family, buy easy to cook frozen meals or cook meals ahead of time and freeze them. Clean the house before surgery. Buy all your liquid post op fluids ahead of time. Plan on getting lots of rest. Good luck.

    Food List

I would call your doctor's office for food variation tips. They should have provided this to you before surgery.

    Rescheduled my surgery

I agree good choice. You need time to recover. It took me over a week before I felt better. I took two weeks off from work to ensure I good recovery and I am back at work with no regrets.

    What was I Thinking?

I still have gas pains two weeks out. I mean really bad bloating pain. I take gas x but it doesn't really help. I am back at work and I have to run to the bathroom because the gas pain is bad.
  16. Yes, move forward with the surgery. Your health is in jeapordy and your health care providers believe this is a tool you can beneift from. I applaud your husband's ability to lose his weight in the manner that he did. Great job for him! But we are all individuals and what works for one person might not necessarily work for someone else. Do what is best for your health.
  17. I am newly banded and since my surgery day, I have lost 16 pounds. Add that to the 10 pounds I lost during the pre-op and it is a total of 26 pounds. My doctor pre-filled me with 3cc during the surgery, so right now I feel fine.
  18. I acted as though I was already approved and started the pre-op diet.
  19. My doctor says no caffine or soda pop.

    What was I Thinking?

Give it a couple of weeks and you will feel so much better. Your not even a week out, so you need time to recover. I had my surgery on 11/11/08 and today is my first day back to work and I feel great! Give it time, your body is healing and you will get better. :-)
  21. I was banded on 11/11/08 and while on the liquid post op diet, I was HUNGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt light headed, dizzy, growling stomache pains. These symptons occured a couple of days post op. Once, I was able to tolerate cream Soups and yogurt, I was better able to control my hunger. Good luck!
  22. I would encourage you to move forward with the process. The bad habits we acquired over our life time will not dissipate over night, but banding is a tool that will help you. I would encourage you to seek counseling and connect to others on this forum. Your demotivation can stem from the fact that you have indured several denials, making you think that the surgery really isn't going to happen. Good luck to you.
  23. All I can say, after reading this thread is that I really enjoy being single (divorcee 10-years). I can really focus on myself/health without having to worry about how a significant other is impacted by my actions.
  24. Interesting. Why doesn't the surgeon take out the gallbladder at the same time as he/she inserts the band? Other surgeons have done it that way.

    Post Surgery Weight Gain

After reading posts about this topic before my surgery, I made sure not to weigh myself right after my 11/11/08 surgery. I didn't want any disappointments. My pre-surgery weight was 251. I dropped 10 pounds on the pre-diet and weighed in at 241 on my surgery day. Today, I weigh 225 pounds on my bathroom scale. On 11/26/08, I meet with my doctor for my first follow up appointment, since the surgery.
