Percentage or rate of lap bands removed?

Hello: I would look on this forum in the section called Lapband complications, there might be information there. The FDA states the band is good for at least 10-years and could last longer without complications. As far as studies, here are some links: However, the best research papers are in medical journals. Do a Google search for information. gastric banding research - Google Scholar Gastric Banding Reverses Impact Of Type 2 Diabetes
  5. Ask for a copy of the insurance requirements in writing. This will greatly assist you in moving through the process.
  6. Very normal and good for you too!
  7. Sounds like your doing what your doctor told you to do. And is the best way to have a healthy recovery. Congrats on being banded!

    Nightmare

Hi: Sorry to hear you are having problems with your first fill. I have not had a fill yet and I know every doctor gives different instructions, but shouldn't you have been on liquids after the first fill. At least liquids for a couple of days until your stomach has time to adjust to the fill? My doctor instructs us to go on liquids after a fill for at least 2-days. If we are still having issues after a couple of days on liquids after the fill, then the doctor will take some of the fill out. Can you keep liquids down? If not you should call your doctor to get a slight unfill.
  9. Congrats on being down 23 pounds that is great! And keeping up with your exercise is awesome. The eating habits we developed over several years will not resolve immediately, because we are now banded. However, the band is a great tool to help you take one step at a time to developing new healthy eating habits. Bravo for recognizing the issue and moving forward. It will take time, but you can do it! Good luck.

    December Exercise Challenge

Today: 45 minutes on treadmill @ 4% incline 1.5 miles. Stretchy band upper body, but the damn band broke in half. It is my amazing new strength.:cursing: No worries, I have two back up stretchy bands.
  11. What an awesome video! :cursing: Thanks for sharing it.
  12. full liquids with sf nonfat plain yogurt.
  13. My tummy did that too. It was so embarressing and I was glad I was at home recovering rather than at work. I swear people could hear it in the next room, because it was making so much noise. My doctor allowed me to have sf nonfat plain yogurt during my lqiuid phase stage, which really helped with the growling.
  14. Actually you are not required to tell your employer your medical condition. All you need to state is that your under a doctor's care and that you will need time off work. You will of course need to provide a note from your doctor stating that you are being treated for a medical condition and the amount of time you will be off work. Take advantage of HIPPA and FMLA.
  15. Well that depends. If your employer admininsters the plan and pays the medical costs directly to the doctor/hospital, then yes they would see who had what prcoedure. But again, the information is protected by HIPPA and if anyone were to disclose your private medical information there could be serious repercussions. Some government agencies/municipailities administer their health plans and pay the medical expenses directly to the doctors/hospital in order to save money. Yet, there are other organizations/businesses that just pay a plan administrator to oversee the health insurance. In this situation, the business/organization would not know who had what type of medical procedure done. It is complicated, but your HR department can explain it to you more thoroughly. :cursing:
  16. Wow! Your doctor let you progress to solid foods quickly. I was on full liquids for two weeks and right now I am on the mushie stage. I was banded on 11/11/08.
  17. Hi Teresa so sorry to hear about your sister passing on Christmas Day. It is hard to find a bright spot with our love ones gone during the holidays. But, in her name you are committed to giving yourself a healthy life. It is the most importnat committment to keep to yourself, so move forward.

    Who is your doctor???

  18. Hi Emily: There has been a glitch again with my mom having the gastric bypass procedure at Valley Care. She had the colonoscopy and a endonscopy both of which show some issues that need to be delt with.

I have still not told her of my procedure as I just don't have the heart too, inlight of how many years she has been struggling to have the bypass. Not sure if she will ever have the bypass now.

  19. Corey, welcome to LBT. You will find lots of support on this site, plus a great deal of information to help you along. Good luck!
  20. Hi Teresa:

My appointment went very well. I am now on mushies and next week will graduate to regular foods. I eat very slow and small quantities. I chew, chew, and chew, just so that the food goes down. Everything is staying down.

I will have my first fill at the end of the month, which doctor Kim stated would be 2ccs. I am already at 3ccs and I can feel the restriction. I am walking on my tread mill at home and feeling really energetic. According to my scale at home, I have lost 30 pounds. But I am sure the doctor's scale is more accurate and I see the doctor again next week.

Stay focused Teresa. I know its hard, but the pay off is big. You will really see the results with the band.

  21. Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
  22. I took two weeks off and have a desk job. I felt re-energized, no pain, and fatigue. I felt great and still do. :-)

    What to tell work?

Personally, I don't feel compelled to discuss my private matters with my employer. Hence, when I have medical issues, such as when I had an emergency hsterectomy and gallbladder surgery, I did not see any reason to tell my employer, other than I would be off work due to a medical condition, which is being treated by a doctor. I don't discuss my health issues, my financial matters, or any information that is personal with my employer. Legally, my employer does not have the right to know this information.
