6 days post op and hardly able to eat...help!
TQUAD64 replied to teacherica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I could not tolerate Protein shakes at post op. I was told to stay on Clear liquids for one week than full liquids for another week. Right now your body needs to heal, so the calorie consumption will be limited, because of internal band swelling. That is okay. It is important to get at least 1 0z of water/fluid every 15-minutes (according to my doc) during the first 1-week. So keep working on your Water intake. -
What should Physician record every month?
TQUAD64 replied to Bethanyblondie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Blue Shield of California. They required a 6-month supervised diet. Either supervised by a nutritionist or doctor. I always went to the nutritionist, because it was free...no-co-pay and they were up on Saturdays. I had to go at least once a month. Anyway, she always gave me a copy of her template sheet, which documented my progress. The sheet included date, weight, the topic of discussion she gave provided, and my exercise. She also documented in struggles I had. Sometime my back spasms or catching the cold/flu would cause me to cut back on exercising. This was all documented. We always talked about nutrition and this was documented on her form. I hope this information helps. -
Awesome! You give us hope.

How much did you loose before Surgery?
TQUAD64 replied to AudsMom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost 10 pounds pre-op. And 20 post op. Was banded 11/11/08 -
It could be the fill. How much did you eat the Xmas party with the new fill? Can you get water down? Is food staying down? I would call your doctor to get their opinion.

What exactly is a "NORMAL" diet???
TQUAD64 replied to mom22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor should have provided you a list of healthy food options and directions. And/or your nutrionist should have. Contact them and get their feedback. My doctor provided me a binder of information, plus I continue to see the nutrionist for support and suggestions. -
Now I know what it feels like to need a fill!
TQUAD64 replied to Thegirlnextdoor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, I am there too. This weekend I was hungry. I mean really hungry, so I had to keep myself distracted. My 4 week post op is 12/10/08, so I am to graduate to real food. The doctor will give me a fill before Christmas, but I would prefer to have it on 12/10/08. -
This happened to me as well. I was really happy I took two weeks off from work in-light of all the noises my stomach was making. I swear my neighbors probably heard it through the apartment walls. It went away during week 2 post op.

Specific diet after WLS??
TQUAD64 replied to Thegirlnextdoor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too! Not by the book, but my doctor has a rule. Protein first and everyhting else there after. So basically it follows the some componets of the South Beach diet, in getting plenty of protein and low carbs. -
I lost 10 pounds pre-op and 20 pounds post op. Was banded 11/11/08. My first fill will be right before Christmas.

diet pills and the band
TQUAD64 replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read threads on this forum in which people do take diet pills with the band. You can do a thread search with the topic "Diet Pills". I was on phen phen years ago and the phen and so many others. I personally, want to stay away from diet pills and the possible heart complications sometimes associated to them. -

Hypothyroid- does that affect approval
TQUAD64 replied to taylormomto6's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have hypothyroidism and I was approved. I take Levothyroxine .088mg. -
Did you have any food in your tummy, before you had three drinks? No food and alcohol don't mix well.

Just reached First Major Goal! So excited!
TQUAD64 replied to journee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations! This is so awesome and I am really excited for you. Keep up the great work. -
I really researched both procedures, but when it was all done, I selected the Band. Less evasive Quicker recovery No cutting of the stomach Reversible More control with the fills No issues with malabsorption Slower and gradual weight loss

how long to get nicotin out of ones blood
TQUAD64 replied to bethw66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, there are blood and urine tests and it can take up to 72 hours to clear your system. A lot of insurance companies (for life insurance) perform these tests. Here is an article regarding it. Life Insurance Rates for Smokers | Insurance.com -
Okay I'm scared.. please help :)
TQUAD64 replied to bethm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I recommend checking out Youtube for real banding surgies. You can see from the videos that you are somewhat covered. I am not sure what they call the material, but it is a light blue color and appears to be made out of cotton. There are a couple of ways to perform the procedure. The doctor can stand between the patient's legs, but again you are covered with the light blue color cotton drape. Or the doctor can perform the procedure from your side. This is a great video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHzljCq2jbk&feature=PlayList&p=B723FF4F01435CB2&index=0]YouTube - Live Lap-Band® Surgery Part 1 of 5 - Kansas City[/ame] The video is broken into I believe 5 sections. I hope the video help you. -
I was diagnosed in 2001 with Hypothyroidism. At one time I was taking .75 mg and today I take .88mg. On Saturday I took a blood test to see what my thyroid levels are post op. Maybe I will need a lower dose now. I will find out next week at my 4-week post op checkup. Anyway, 10 pounds down pre-op diet and 20 pounds down post op. Surgery was on 11/11/08 with a 10cc Lap Band prefilled at surgery with 3ccs.

Soooo Freakin' Gross!
TQUAD64 replied to sistasassy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi sistasassy: This is my worse nightmare. It has not happen to me yet. But, when I let myself get really hungry, I forget to slow down. Then I feel the restriction. I try to catch the hunger before I get way to ravenous. -
Hey Logan: I try and distract myself with an activity. Walking or getting up and removing myself from the food. Or get on the phone and call a life line (AKA Family).

1 yr post op and very frustrated
TQUAD64 replied to got2bme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Gotbeme. Whatever you do, don't give up. Make an appointment with your doctor. Start journaling your food in take and track your exercise. There are some fun free websites that will help you keep track, plus they have exercise video/clips. Sparkpeople.com Thedialyplate.com -
Okay, I am back on track and as promised 50 minutes treadmill at a 4% to 5% grade. Upper body free weights. Plus the Christmas tree and decorations are up. Yahoo!!!
