Why is banding so frowned upon?

I have to agree with the other posters that the Band is less evasive, which was a big draw for me. I had a HUGE issue with portion control and hunger. The band has alleviated these two issues for me as I get my fills. I live in the every day world. I work, go to school, and raise a family. Therefore, I need to eat with co-workers, friends, family, and class mates without the constant constraints of a rigid diet. The beauty of the band is it allows me, for the most part, to eat regular food....just a whole lot less. And because of the investment my doctors and I have made in me with the band surgery, I select healthy food choices. I see myself investing in me and my healthier future. As far as my doctor's sphere of influence in one procedure over the other. Really there was none. My doctor and all the other doctors at the clinic I go to equally espouse the benefits of both procedures.
  2. I have only had one fill and that was at 12:15 pm last week, so I am not sure about a difference, between morning or afternoon fills All I know, is that in the morning I am more restricted than any other time during the day.
  3. I would definitely call the surgeon. Your partner will dehydrate at that rate of Fluid intake. Not good.

My doctor lets me take my pills, but suggests that I cut them in half if they are to big.

Jachut: I totally hear you. Any time I increase my work outs I start to feel drained and run down, like I am coming down with a cold.

I'm having my tonsils taken out!

I had my tonsils out when I was 23. The procedure went well, my recovery was quick. But the raw feeling in your throat is gross. Of all my surgies, this was the one I hated the most. :-(
  9. I had to do an upper GI and a Hpylori test.
  10. I agree with you Jetsy. I am a details kind of girl. I need to know everything about what is happening to me. I watched the band surgery being done on someone on vidoe, because I just want to know. I think the more we know the better our informed decisions will be. I want the good and bad news. :rolleyes2:
  11. Hi Teresa: They did no require me to lose 10% overall body weight. I thought they would but they did not. I did lose 10 pounds though.

  12. Yes, get the fill before the Christmas holiday. Better now while the doctors are available. Good luck!:wink2:

Crackers and cheese My snack packs are not 100 calories, but they have Protein, which I try to keep in my snacks.

    The Water Rule

My doc says drink a lot of water before the meal and nothing 60-90 minutes after the meal.
  18. I had my first fill in the doctor's office today at 4-week post-op. I told the doctor I am hungry, very hungry. I can eat and a couple hours later I am on the hunt for more food. Based on that and everything else going well, she gave me a fill ahead of schedule. She fills at 6-weeks post-op. I am not hungry any more. I am on fluids today and tomorrow and mushies on Friday and Saturday.

    Hypothyroid- does that affect approval

I never knew what a thyroid did, until mine quit working. When I started exhibiting symptoms, I thought I had arthritis. The first doctor who saw me, diagnosed me wrong, but the second doctor knew just by the symptoms I had. I blood test confirmed it. My symptoms were: hair loss, clumps of hair falling out Severely tired (I could not get out of bed) Joint pain and overall body aches Weight gain (60 pounds in about 40 days)

    Frist fill today, OUCH!!!

I had my first fill today and I had no pain. I didn't feel the little needle with the numbing medication nor did I feel the port needle. I did feel immediate restriction. But nada pain.
  22. Hello, I also just got back from my first fill today and did not feel any pain. I was talking to the nurse the entire time while the doctor worked her magic. The doctor took out the previous fill to see what was left. She then placed that fill back in and then added 1.5cc. At surgery they placed 3cc in my band, but somehow I lost .5cc. Anyway, I am now at 4cc in a 10cc band. I feel restriction and I am keeping fluids down. I am on fluids today and tomorrow. Mushies two days after that and then I will try regular diet. I hope all goes well, because the weekend is coming.
  23. My doctor told me both bands function the same way. She likes them both, does not recommend one over the other, and let's her patients select the band. There is a search button on this forum. It is on the tool bar at the top of the web page. Enter in Realize or Lap Band and you will see lots of comments regarding both bands. I chose the AP Lap Band. My band is a 10cc band. As far as advice, do lots of research ahead of time on which WLS procedure you really want to have. Good luck.
  24. I wish I had not waited so long. It is the best thing I could have done. I have lots of energy, no pain in the knees and my ankles don't hurt anymore. I did lots of research for two years WLS and just thought for me that banding was the best solution. Good luck with your decision.
