  1. Hi Teresa: I am sorry you have to wait so long, but if you can get your BMI down quicker then you can have the surgery that much sooner. Try replacing one meal with a protein drink of some type.

I actually did this prior to even seeing the surgeon. I just wanted to see how I would do. Increase your walking by 5 minutes a week. So if you are at 20 minutes a day on week one, then week two up it to 25 minutes. You can do this. Don't overwhelm yourself by doing to much. Just little modifications slowly.

I hear that the gastric bypass can immediately help diminish diabetes issues. I think that is amazing. You need to pick the procedure that is best for your health. And if you doctor recommends the gastric than go for it.

    Happy holidays!

    December Exercise Challenge

Tonight: 50 minute treadmill 4% incline at 1.75 miles. Is December over yet?
  3. Personally, if my doctor told me to stay on a liquid diet, I would stay on that diet for however many days she/he told me too. If my doctor didn't tell me the reason for it, I would be asking why. Why not call your doctor and find out why?? Furthemore, after two years of research, surely you must have come across one article that stated the reason why you stay on the liquid post-op diet right after surgery. Good luck to you.

    First Post Op Problem

I would call my doctor and couble check which foods are okay to have after two weeks post op. I am mean I would want to the doctor or their staff to spell it out for me in writing. To be honest at two weeks post op, I was in recovery mode. At that time, I could not tell you the phases of my post-op diet from memory. I was out of it. I always referred back to the post op diet instructions that my doctor gave me to make sure I was on track.
  5. Yes, people die from the surgery, but it really is less than 1%. All major surgery have risks associated to them. Those risks are dependent upon so many factors. Your health, the doctor, the hospital, and so on. There was a death I read about on this forum. An OBGYN doctor who had the procedure and died before Thanksgiving day. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/well-respected-ob-gyn-dies-banding-complications-82714/

    Got suck and threw up!

Wow your doctor let you eat solids 3 weeks post op? I was on mushie foods during that time. I would take it slow if you are getting stuck all the time. Maybe go back to soft foods.
  7. My doctor told me not to lift anything over ten pounds the first week. Ask your doctor what she/he recommends.

    Please help my mom

I went back to work after two weeks. (I used vacation time) I see the doctor once a month post op. (I take a couple hours vacation time off from work) I saw the doctor and completed lab work, and several classes, so about 7 times. (I used vacation time) I use FMLA for doctor appointments
  9. Hey, what do you guys think of the t.v. show Big Medicine? It is about two doctors Father and Son who perform banding and bypass procedures on obese patients. You get two meet the patients, see their struggles, see their surgery, plus their aftercare. I love this show, because they keep it real. They show the good and the bad.

    Pain after 1st fill

I felt no pain on my first fill. Did not even feel the needle. Sorry to hear your fill was painful.
  12. Mushed up chicken. It really was not bad and for me it went down easily with no problems.
  13. Please tell me you did some research before allowing the doctors to place a band in you? Did you not go to orientations? Did you go in with your eyes wide closed? It is important to take responsiblity for your recovery and eating solids right now is not a wise choice. Really, you should call your doctor and let he/she know what you are doing?

    How much time off work?

I didn't go back to work on liquids either. I took two weeks off. On my first day back to work I felt awesome and still do! Two weeks was just the right amount of time off for me.

    my fill

A fill is when a doctor places a saline Fluid into the port to expand the band. A needle is utilized to insert the fluid into the port. The fill helps expand the band to tighten the small stomach pouch.

    beginner runner

I cannot wait to start running again. I was an avid runner until my children were born. I love the freedom and sernity running gives me. Plus, the runners high kept me going all day long with energy. I need to lose more weight before I can start running again. But I know one day I will get there.
  23. Love it! 5-weeks out and 32 pounds lighter.

    restaurant card

I received one of these cards, but never use it. We don't eat out.
  25. I am banded and do not drink my Protein. I eat healthy foods that have protein, such as nonfat milk, nonfat yogurt, cheese, fish, poultry, eggs, Beans, and so on. I do not think a person needs to be on a protein liquid diet. (Unless the doctor orders it so). A person can consume enough nutrition....including protein without resorting to liquids. That is just my opinion. Your doctor might have a diffrent opinion. I track my protein from regular food every day and I do consume the 60 to 80 grams of protein my nutritionist reccomends.
