Intro- Over weight and not motivated
TQUAD64 replied to NSowah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think personal support groups are the best. Oh sure this web site offers great support, but there is nothing like connecting to individuals in person who know your struggle, who actually live with your struggle to. Connect to a support group. I utilize Sparkpeople.com to track my food and exercise. I weigh and measure all my food, because I have a terrible time knowing what a real portion is. Are you keeping up with your fills? How is your aftercare going with your doctor? -
It can be frustrating until you have great restriction with the band. In the mean time, keep up with your exercise program to help burn any extra calories you might be consuming. Keep up with your Protein intake, this really helps keep you full longer. Keep yourself occupied. Take up a hobby that keeps you busy, so food is not on your mind. Stay away from tele watching as the food commerials are endless. Measure your food, eat slowly, and chew, chew, chew your food. Laslty, don't weigh yourself all the time. It is maddening and will only disappoint you. Rather, track the inches you are losing. Good luck!

surgery in two days and scared
TQUAD64 replied to KWB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is natural to be nervous and scared of a life changing procedure. Let's face it, we have failed at so many other types of weight loss methods, we question whether this procedure will really make the difference. Plus, having any type of surgery is serious and paying for it out of your own pocket really leaves you to question if this is the right choice for you. Speaking for myself, I have no regrets. Yes, I had the same concerns as you, but really I am satisfied with my resluts thus far. I believe you will have no regrets either. Best wishes with your journey. -
My doctor takes out the old fill to see what is left. Then she places that back in and adds new fill. She does not do this under fluor. Some how I lost .5 cc. Who knows where it went. My third fill is on January 14, so we will see what is left. Does your doctor take out the old fill to see what is actually in there?

Good luck Your really going to start the New Year off right with this surgery. -
Hello Wayno38: My surgeon is Dr. Kim at Alta Bates hospital in Oakland, California. She is a fantastic surgeon. Very young and hip. She listens to my needs and accomodates my requests. The only down side is that she is located 85 miles from my home.
So do you live in L.I. NY or is that where you are having surgery? I thought it was cold here in Cali, but I can see I am better off here on the West Coast. :-)

My doctor had me walking from day one. I started speed walking 14 days post op. I started upper body weights for toning at three weeks post op. I would call your doctor to find out what restrictions if any he/she has on exercise at post op.

I love my treadmill and utilize all the time. The features I like the most is the Ifit computerized trainer system. Fan, incline to 12%, 10 mph speed. Holds weight of 300 pounds. It monitors my pulse. And it has a cut off switch. It is a Norditrack. Happy walking.

I have been filled twice. I have a 10cc band, which has 4cc now. I have restriction, but I have not been stuck with food yet. I chew, chew, chew before I swallow the food. I eat sushi, chicken, turkey, bread and steak (just a few examples). I vey small quantities, because I am afraid of being stuck. I don't want to go there, so I try to be very careful.

Last night I opened a piece of mail from the hospital where I had my gastric banding procedure performed. The notice stated it was not an invoice, but just a statement of charges. OMG, the total charges were $82,000 billed to my insurance company. Okay, I did have a little issue with my spleen bleeding during the surgery, so I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days, but OMG, $82,000. I thought self-pay banders were paying around $20K in the USA and around $8K in Mexico. The implant device was $11K and the OR was $20K and the recovery room was $6K and the semi-private room was $9.5K and the list of charges keeps on going. Thank goodness for my insurance.

I cannot eat first thing in the morning either. I have tea or coffee and then I am out the door for my long commute to work. I usually eat around 8:30 or 9:00 am.

All I can say, is keep moving forward to a healthier you. It's all about you now, not them. Take charge, thank them for their concern, but move forward to having the surgery. You will not regret it. -
A holiday song wish.... "LapBand Wonderland"
TQUAD64 replied to SunnyRachel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Vey cute. I sang it through and it works well with the winter wonderland music. Merry Christmas! -
My doctor did not allow me to drive until 7-days post op. And that was the time I was really feeling great. I drive two hours a day for my job and I felt fine doing that. No pain. If you have to drive for a longer period of time, and you have your doctor's permission to do so, then take breaks and stretch your legs. It is not good after surgery to be stationary for a long period of time. You are at risk for blood clots in your legs.

Pre-Op Diet Cheating: Were you banded?
TQUAD64 replied to doodleallday's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, there were times when I did not follow the pre-op diet instruction the doctor gave me. I would have Protein Snacks, like cheese or eggs. I was suppose to have two liquid Protein shakes and 1 protein meal. I did lose 10 pounds pre-op. I believe my BMI at surgery was 41 or 40.5. Yes, I am now banded on my first and only surgery appointment with the band. No, I was not cancelled, but this was a fear of mine.
