    Soda

Not me. I am to afraid.
  3. Hi Anne: A fill is not surgery. The inject a numbing agent with a needle in the tummy area where the port is located. Then the doctor utilizes a larger needle to put the Fluid in. The needle is inserted through the tummy into the port. My doctor takes out the old fill to see what is left, then she places it back in, and then she adds new fill. I had 3cc entered at surgery and 1.5 cc on December 10 in the doctor's office. I felt no pain. I will have another fill on January 14, because I do not have good restriction. You get the fills as often as you need to keep your restriction.

To tell or not to tell?!?

I did not tell my friends or co-workers. The only person in my family who knows is my sister. The reason I told my sister was just in case I died. I trust her to help my adult children through difficult situations when I am not around. I took two weeks vacation time off. I am on FMLA, so I can go to my follow up medical appointments as necessary. Usually, just one appoinment per month.

    Hello..

I selected the gastric banding procedure for the following reasons: 1. Reversible 2. No cutting and replumming of stomach 3. No Nutrition absorption issues 4. Slower weight loss 5. Quicker recovery 6. More control of weight loss 7. Lower risk with this procedure than gastric by-pass (But all surgeies carry risk) I have lost 30 pounds... 10 pre-op and 20 post op. I like the band thus far.

Lap Band and the "Stomach Flu"

I call it the plague and it is going around the office like mad. People are dropping like flies. I wash my hands constantly and for extra measure I bathe my hands in that antiseptic gel solution. I have a huge container of this stuff in my office. Plus, I have a container in my purse. Oh, and I have a little spray bottle of Lysol, so when I am out shopping I use it on the cart handles. And I have this spray in my office too! I know this is extreme, but I don't want to catch those cooties.

  16. Hi Monica: I was nervous about having another surgery. I have had 11 or 12. surgeries..so many that I have lost count. We joke in my family that I should get the next one free. :-) Anyway, this was a last resort. When I was younger...as a child, teenager, and twenty-something adult, I never had a weight problem. I jogged, lifted weights, and had a very active life. (I am 5'6" and started at 251) But something happened after the birth of my second child (26 yr). I could not lose the weight and I did not have time to jog or lift weights. My family life trumped my health. For the last 19 years I have struggled with weight gain and loss. I have been on diet after diet. So when I heard about gastric procedures I began to do the research. I still wonder what if this one fails too. But I have the support and the tools to make this work. I do not regret my decision. And I have no doubt you will not regret having the procedure. Good luck!
  17. I bet your nutritionist can provide you tips on appropriate food in-take in-light of your breast-feeding your child.

    Anyone have this problem

I am so with you. I know what your feeling. I enjoy the support of this board to help me through it.

    Sleeping

Not me. Once my head hits that pillow I am out. A marching band could walk by and I would not hear it. I lay on my port side and have no pain or issues.

    Vitamin supplements...

I eat two multi-vitamin gummy bears. Yummy, makes you want to revert back to a child again...or not. Plus, I take b12, Iron tablet, and calcium chews.
  21. If you mean your heart was hurting literally, then call your doctor or the on-call doctor. Your heart should not be in pain. It is normal to have pain post op. I had bad pain for several days and actually stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days, until we could find the right pains for me. (I have pain med allergies. This is so not the norm). Take the pain meds when you need them. Don't try and tolerate the pain when you have meds. As far as eating, don't forget one day you will be eating real food with your family again. You will not be on a liquid diet the rest of your life, so hang in there. Focus on your recovery and give yourself time to heal. To be honest, I did not feel great until day 7-post-op. On day 7, I felt great!!!! And started driving and shopping. You will get there too!
  22. They are looking for what you described. Meeting with the doctor or nutritionist at least once a month, being weighed in, and doctors or nutritionist's notes on weight loss. I saw my nutritionist and/or my doctor; who ever I could fit into my schedule. They would weigh me and ask how I was doing. They would ask me about exercise and make notes about my exercise. We always discussed the gastric banding procedure and that was documented as well. All the notes/documentation were faxed to the insurance company.
  23. I am single, so there was no one to take care of me. I did have my brother take me home from the hospital, but after that I was on my own and I did great. I planned ahead of time. I cleaned house ahead of time before surgery I picked up my RX pain meds the day before surgery (I asked the doctor to call them in ahead of time) I purchased all my liquid drinks ahead of time I purchased liquid Tylenol & GasX ahead of time When I needed more supplies I ordered them at Safeway.com and had them delivery (I received free delivery) Basically, I just slept, drank, and walked. My fluids were by my bed, I have exclusive remote control rights, and I fluffed my own pillows. Everything was great. On day 7-post-op, I was driving and shopping. Good luck!
  24. Lucky for me I hate ice-cream. It makes me sick to my stomach, but I love candy and chips..... So although the band is a great tool for me when I have restriction, I really have to work it. I spent a whole year trying to get this band, so now that I have it I don't want to fill my stomach with empty calories. Plus, I exercise really hard and I don't want the time I spent exercising to be wasted. liquids do go through my band, so I am careful of what I drink. I never drank alcohol pre-band, so I don't now. I love Starbucks, but I have skinny lattes rather than mochas. And since I love candy, I have 1 piece rather than the whole box. I use other tools besides the Band. I track my calories @ Sparkpeople.com, I exercise every day, I weigh my food, I continue to see my nutritionist, I attend support groups, and I meet monthly with my surgeon. Together, all these tools help me to stay on track.
  25. Well I have Blue Shield of California. This is what they had me do. I placed it in the order for each step I had to complete.
