What I think of Oprah's show today!

In 2001, I gained 60 pounds in about 6-weeks, while at the same time I had severe joint and muscle pains. I had difficulty walking. I had no energy. I had trouble getting out of bed. My hair was falling out in clumps. I had no idea what was going on, so I went to a doctor, who gave me advil and told me to go home and get some rest. I knew that there was something seriously wrong with me, so I went to the school doctor at my university campus. He knew immediately what was wrong with me and the blood work results confirmed his diagnosis. My thryoid was shot. He placed me on medication and I am doing so much better. However, I was not able to drop the weight. I do know that the rapid weight gain was from the thryoid issue. As far as Oprah, I have never seen her be a "hater" to anyone. I case I must have missed the shows where she was hating WLS patients.

    Phentermine

I took this drug back in the day when ithad the fhen part to it. Plus, I took it when they took the fhen part out too. I had great results, but eventually gained the weight back. :-( The FDA rules on this drug according to my doctor, is that you are not to take this medication for more than three months. You take it for a couple of months and then your are off it for a couple of months. At least that is how my doctor perscribed it to me. Plus, I had to see her every month. This was my primary care doctor not my surgeon and this was several years ago.

    $700 fills in Oxford, MS!

I have never heard of someone doing a self-fill. Have you actually done this yet? And what type of aftercare are you getting? This is amazing.

    $700 fills in Oxford, MS!

Wow! I have read on this forum that it is way cheaper for self-pays. I would do some shopping around.

    Insurance Company and Fills

I have Blue Shield of California. All my fills are covered, but I pay a $15.00 co-pay each time I visit the doctor for a fill.

    Fill Probl;em: Band losing Fluid

I had 3cc placed in at the time of surgery. I have a 10cc band. On December 10, the doctor took out the old fill to see what was left and there was 2.5cc. She put that back in and added 1.5cc. So now I have 4cc. My next fill is January 14, so I cannot wait to see what is left in the band.
  7. Wow! All I can say is get back on track, get into a support group where you are interactive one on one with people, and tell your doctor.

What I think of Oprah's show today!

I saw the show last night after work and I thought it was inspirational. We all need help, after all we are human, regardless of our bank acount. At least Jesus thought so.
  9. I am sorry you are going through this. But I wonder, if you could not follow the diet instructions for the band if you will be able to follow the diet instructions for the gastric bypass. I would work with a therapist to see what is causing me to not follow the diet requirements. I have heard that the bypass can fail people too, just like the band can fail.
  10. I lost a couple of pound during the 6-month supervised diet. I was told by my insurance case manager not to go below a 40 BMI during the 6-month supervised diet, because I would not get approved. I was around a 41/42 BMI at the time. Once the insurance company approved me for the surgery. I loss 10 pounds on the pre-op diet. I have Blue Shield of California.
  11. Waist, hips, and butt. My top half is not getting smaller yet.

    Questions regarding questions!

How many procedures have you performed How many band slips have occurred that you performed How many port slips have occurred that you performed How many deaths What is your aftercare program like How often do you give fills and how much of a fill do you give These are just a few starter questions.

What I think of Oprah's show today!

I believe we should all be more empathetic to each other.

    Do you eat popcorn?

I love popcorn and yes I eat it. I stick with mini bags for a snack.
  16. I think perhaps if you change the goal around that it might be easier to hear the compliments. Perhaps not seeing the goal as looking better from weight loss hence compliments, which are hard to hear right now. But maybe change the goal to becoming healthy. That is how I look at it. When people say I am looking good now, because of the weight loss...I say, I always looked good but now I am looking healthy. It helps me get my head around the compliments. Plus, I force myself to stare in the mirror so I can recognize the changes happening to my body as the weight loss occurs. This is really hard to do, but I do this.

What I think of Oprah's show today!

I have total empathy for anyone with weight problem issues. Personally, I think the weight issues go beyond money. I feel as though there are psychological issues, which play into over eating. (Yes, there are other issues). Anyway, I think if society was more caring and empathetic towards each other that perhaps, just perhaps tolerance and understanding would thrive more.

    I am this shallow?

Ditto for me! My co-workers have noticed the weight loss and have stated so (they do not know I have the band). However, I spent Christmas with my entire famliy and no one said anything, which I was cool with. My family does not know I had the surgery (only my sister), so I did not want to get into a weight loss discussion. I have lost 30 pounds thus far and cannot wait to see what my loss will be next Christmas.
  19. Wow, so sorry you went through this. Not a very nice way to start your New Year. I had some minor complications with my band surgery/recovery, so I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. At the bariatric center I attend, the norm for a band patient is at least one night spent in the hospital. I had stomach gas pain so bad that the pain was not being alleviated by the pain meds. This is the primary reason why I spent extra time in the hospital. I had to wear anti-nausea Patches in the hospital and at home. When I did pass gas I thought I was some alien monster. Anyway, I did make it home and I felt awesome on day 7 post op.
  20. It is better to play it on the safe side by seeking medical consultation. Good luck!

    Post Holiday Blues

I totally indulged in holiday treats and I do not feel any guilt. I cut back calories elsewhere and increased my exercise too. Increasing my exercise was a smart move. I did not gain any weight but nor did I lose any. Now replacing healthy nutritional calories with the holiday treats was not a smart move on my part, but I am so not going to beat myself up over it. The holidays are over, the treats are gone, and I am back on track. So if we can get back on track, so can you.
  22. The only way to really know what is going on is to see your doctor, so call your doctor. Personally, I have had pneumonia twice. I was out of work and school for weeks. And was hospitallized once. When you have pneumonia you know you have it without question.
  23. I love this post. Getting back to family basics is awesome. We didn't have a lot of money this year either, so we (my adult children and I) played board games too. It was the best relaxing Christmas ever, because we were not frazzled by the chaos of the holidays.

Who will this change who i am

I feel that I have changed for the better. The lost weight has given me my energy back. I can exercise without pain. I am more social. I attend more activities and events. I am no longer hiding at home. And I feel more confident.

    January 2009 Exercise Challenge

Today: This is my first day back to work and I don't know what happened but I feel like I was hit by a truck. I feel the flu coming on and I am really restricted. No exercise.
