  1. Get back on track. If you are suppose to be on liquids then keep the liquids going. Or if you are suppose to be on mushies, then start the mushies. You need to call your doctor and let them know that you are consuming solid foods.
  2. Okay, you made a mistake, let's not beat ourselves up over it. Learn from it and call your doctor and let he/she know what is going on. Most importantly get back on where you should be at for your post-op diet. If you are suppose to be on liquids still then get back on liquids. If you are suppose to be on mushies then start mushies. It is really important to follow your doctor's post op diet instructions. Your stomach incisions are healing, so don't take a chance with your health. Get back on track! At 10 days post-op, I was on the mushie stage, not solid foods.
  3. Hi Teresa:

How exciting that you are getting closer and closer to your surgery. Before you know it you will be in post-op. I really considered both surgeries and believe both will get the job done in helping people lose weight.

What tests do you need to complete this week?

    Workouts at Home

Not sure if you will continue to have access to the Internet, but I utilize Sparkpeople.com to log my calories and exercise. Anyway, they have free exercise videos you can play on your computer, some with weights and some without. The web site is free, no charge.

    January 2009 Exercise Challenge

I don't think there is anything wrong with two rest days per week. No matter how hard I try to go beyond 5-days of exercise, I get physically drained and just cannot do it. So now, I gladly do 5-days EX and 2-days off. Anyway, I think your doing great!!!!:tongue2:

Am I too tight? Or give it time?

Sounds like your too tight. I would go in for a slight unfil. I never would recommend keeping a fill that was making someone vomit. It's best to play it safe.
  8. Jasmine: While I was in the hospital, we could not find a pain med that would not make me break out and hives and not make me nauseated. Because of this, my pain was terrible and I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. My doctor prescribed anti-nausea Patches for me, which really helped. The patch allowed me to take my pain meds without vomiting and thus my pain was managed. My fear for you is that your Fluid intake is not where it should be. You don't want to dehydrate and you should not be in pain. So call your doctor and make he/she aware of what is going on. Perhaps they can order anti-nausea patches for you too. The patches work wonders.
  9. There is only one person I told about my surgery (my sister) and I only told her in case something went terribly wrong on the operating table. Even my baby brother who took me to the hospital had no idea nor did he pry about what type of surgery I was having. (He dropped me off at the hospital and I told him to go home after I checked in at the front counter). My weight loss has been slow and gradual, which was one reason why I picked this procedure. People at work are now recognizing and commenting on my weight loss. I tell them that I track calories, exercise like crazy, and see a nutritionist...All of which is very true!

    Back to Work

Well each person's recovery time is so different, but I took two-weeks vacation time. And I am so glad that I did. By day 7-post op I was feeling great. I began driving and shopping that day, but the liquid diet left me feeling weak, so I am glad I took two weeks off and was on mushies by the time I went to work. When I did go back to my desk job, I felt energizes and ready to go. As far as how many days in the hospital, my doctor requires an over night stay, but because I had some complications, I stayed 2.5 days. I am doing great now!
  11. Thank you Barbie: How are you feeling?

  12. I had gallbladder surgery back in 1996 and it was the same procedure in that it was done laparoscopically. I felt the pain was the same. You should have no problem, since the pain meds will help you as they did before. As far as your stomach being on fire, it could be the Protein drink that you are consuming. Can you switch the type of drink your are currently using?
  13. You are almost there. Hang on. I would call your doctor to see if you can move to the next phase.

    How soon?

Hello Irochka: As far as BM, mine were very irregular for a month after surgery. I didn't have a normal BM until 8-days post-op. As far as weight loss after surgery, everyone is different. It really is impossible to compare and contrast your progress with other people's progress. You are so newly banded that you are swollen, have gas, and are probably sore. Right now your body is in recovery mode. The weight loss will happen, but it does take time. I lost 10 pounds during the pre-op diet and 20 pounds post op. I really cannot recall in what time frame I lost the 20-pounds post op, other than at each doctor visit my weigh ins show weight loss. More importantly for me, because I exercise like crazy, the inches are melting off. I have lost 3 pant sizes, since the surgery and I am ready to drop one more pant size. I had a 3cc fill at surgery and a 1.5 cc fill on December 10. I lost .5cc between the surgery and the December 10 appointment, so now I have 4cc in a 10cc band. My next fill is January 14. Good luck!
  15. When I know I have a group event evolving food, I plan ahead. At my job we are always having food socials or lunch socials, so I drink a Protein Bullet about 45 minutes before the event with Water. It feels me up, so I eat less at these food social activities. When I am at lunch socials at a restaurant, I have the Soup or order an appetizer. When I am at work for a food social, I put a little bit of food on my plate. I have noticed that no one is paying attention to what I am eating, because we are all busy engaging in conversations. It has been a non-issue for me. There are times when I do give into tempting foods. I do not deprive myself. I just take smaller portions and increase my exercise for that day.

    3 years ago today.....

Happy Birthday Justin. And mom, you are making the right decision. You need to be healthy for your son. Good luck with your journey.
  17. Wow, West Africa! What an amazing opportunity. Let's hope you will not need to do an emergency unfill. I hope you have a safe trip.

    Getting Rid of Gas

I still have terrible gas and I am 2-months post-op. I never had gas issues before. I walk to help move it along.

    Support Group Meetings

Today, I attended my first post-op support group meeting and it sucked! It was not what I was hoping for. The majority of the conversation was about food. I would rather had the group leader allow each person to do an intro and during the intro state one issue they need the groups feedback on. Or, have a group topic and each person makes 1 comment round-robin style. The same old, same old people kept talking and did not yield the floor to others. I will not drive 85 miles one way to this type of support group again. However, I really liked the pre-op support group!!!

    They asked me to speak

Go for it. It is an honor to be asked. And when you do present your story to the group, speak from your heart.
  22. There are some WLS banders that do their own fills. Of course they are not doing butter rum or garlic sauce that was posted as comical relief to a serious topic (which I am still LOL!!!) But recently, I have read threads on this forum, in which people are self-filling. I suspect they are nurses or in the medical field. You really need to know what your doing, because as other posters noted already, you don't want to jeopardize the band or your health.

    pre op diet necessary?

I would say the truth lies in what your doctor wants for you. Many LBT posters were not required to do the pre-op diet even though they had a BMI over 40. Whereas, other LBT posters had to do a pre-op diet. Really it is up to your doctor what she/he wants you to do.
  24. My hair falls out in clumps in the shower. Yuko! I also shed hair during the day and when this happens I find it on the seat of my car, at work, on the bathroom floor. The only time I had hair loss like this was when I didn't have my thyroid meds. With that said, I take a thyroid pill every day and I wash my hair every third day. I flat Iron my hair, but put a leave in conditioner in my hair. I buy hair care products at beauty/hair salons, rather than the Box Store hair products found on their counters. The hair salon products cost more, but they don't dry out my hair. I monitor my Protein intake daily and make sure I have at least 90 grams. I also began drinking 1 Protein Bullet every morning. I also have a Vitamin regiment that I stick with. I have found the above techniques are working for me.
