    Focus on the issues!

Are you for real or are you pulling our leg? LOL!

    Does anyone feel sluggish

Thyroid, low iron, low B. Have your doctor check these during the next blood work order. Plus, are you getting enough rest?

    Feeling VERY hungry :(

Ask your doctor if he will let you have Isopure Protein drinks. They are low-carbs, come in fruity flavors and have 40 grams of protein. They are a great clear Fluid drink and the protein fills you up. You might want to try decaf tea with honey. The honey will help naturally boost your energy.
  4. I lost ten pounds on the pre-op diet, which I think I started 10 days before surgery.

    psych questions?

My insurance required that I have a psych evaluation done. I am not sure if the doctor required, but the insurance definitely did.

    January 2009 Exercise Challenge

Today: 55 minutes jogging with a mix of power walk on a 5% incline 2.6 miles. Thank goodness the weekend is here. Yahoo!!!
  7. Ask your doctor about the IUD. And I would not tell my 11 year old son (if my son was 11) any details. I would tell my children that mom is having a medical procedure to make her well. That mom is not feeling well because of ________ feel in the blank. Mom has a team of doctors that are going to take care of her and do everything they can to make her well. Too much detail for a young child is just information overload. Good luck with the surgey!!!
  8. I don't see how they can go back on their approval letter. Thank goodness you have that letter. You cannot be held responisble for their mistake.

    Got my 2nd fill today

I don't think I would do a fill without the numbing needle first. I never have tried it, but I just don't think I could do that.
  10. I viewed those videos too before I was banded. Plus, I saw the ones that show the actual surgeries. I wanted see the good and bad. I wanted to make a well informed decision. I reviewed medical journal literature as well and I discussed this literature with my doctor. I actually copied all the articles and took them to the dcotor's office. I cannot recall the exact rates of complication in the journals (I don't have them with me at this moment), but it was not significant enough to warrant my withdrawal from having the surgery. Yes, complications do occur. And yes they are scary, but we need to be aware of the risks. Afterall, it is surgery. Try and find journal articles that talk about the risk stats associated to bariatric surgery. I was able to Google some of the reports, but the majority of the reports I found at the univsersity I attend. I did have a minor complication and stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days, but I am okay. I am healthy, losing weight, have more energy, and would do it all over again. Good luck with your decision.

    Welcome to Onederland!!

    That is so awesome! Congrats!!!
  12. The Barium swallow test will show any issues if they are there. We were required to do this test before surgery and before discharge from the hospital. We don't get to come home unless we pass the Barium Swallow test.

    Can you OD on GasX??

You know that is a good question. I never track how many of the little GasX strips I place in my mouth. I just keep taking them to help with the gas. I don't think you can OD on the GasX.
  14. You bet, I am. I try to keep busy with exercising. But I cannot do that all day. When I watch the tele it gets really bad. Do you see all those food commercials??? That is when I want to start snacking. I just get up and do something else. It is really challenging.

    Unable to get unfill...

Wow, I am so sorry your still having problems with the fill from last week. Hopefully, it will resolve with fluids and the associated weight loss that will occur.

    burn baby burn

I would drink soothing fluids to calm the system down, until I could see the doctor. Then I would get a slight unfill. Sorry your going through this.
  17. Hi just banded. I would give my stomach time to relax by just frinking fluids the rest of the day. If I tolerate fluids well, then I would start mushies tomorrow to see how I do. If mushies go well then I would introduce solid foods, but not carotts. If the Fluid is no going down at all, I would be calling my doctor asap.

    B 12 shots

I take the pill under the tongue, but not the shot. I heard B12 gives you energy. Not sure, but my doctor wants me to take a dose of B12 every day.

    January 2009 Exercise Challenge

Hey Lulu, sorry to hear this. :yikes: Hope you get back on your feet soon.
  20. Wow doctor number two is just unreal. I am so sorry this happening to you. Totally frustrating. I am hoping you don't give up your search and that you find an amazing doctor to help you. Good luck!

Do you regret getting your band?

I am newly banded, but love the slow results that I am having. 30 pounds gone, lots of energy, several medical issues resolved, quick recovery, and now I am jogging. :yikes:
  22. Thank goodness everyone survived that crash! Amazing. My doctor's office has a strict policy, you must lose the required weight before surgery or no surgery. No gaining weight either. So I really think it is the doctor who will decide. Each doctor has different requirements.

    'Blind' first fill question

My doctor does fills by touch, not fluro. I lay on a table. They place a pillow under my lower back. Then I am asked to do a stomach crunch/sit up with my head facing the ceiling. She injects me with a numbing agent with a small needle, then she taps around and inserts the fill needle. She pulls out the old fill to make sure we have the amount of cc from before. She documents the number and inserts more new fill. If my doc is poking around with the fill needle, I cannot feel it. Nor do I ever have a bruise. She hits the spot every time, but I have only been filled two times at her office and once in surgery when I had the band placed.
  24. I took two weeks vacation. I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. I really di not feel great until day 7post-op and by then I was driving, shopping, and cleaning the house. Having the extra week off to just kick it was really nice. By the time I went back to work, I was energized and ready to go. I have an office desk job. No heavy lifting.
  25. Your not at your sweet spot yet. Be patient with your Band. It will work for you. It just takes time I have had three fills so far. One was just this week, so it is to soon for me to say if the 3rd fill will be my sweet spot. I have a 10cc band with 5cc in it. I do have restriction now, but the last two faded away at about two weeks. When, the restriction became less noticeable, I became more hungry and fear set in. When the fear hit me and realizing I could not get another fill until my scheduled appointment, I took action. I increased my protein to include a ProSlam45, which 3.1 oz of liquid protein..it's 45 grams. I slam this down in the morning with warm tea or coffee before I start my commute to work. The Slams are filling and get me through the morning. I also increased my exercise and started using free hand weights. And I track my calories with a free Internet service Sparkpeople.com I am sure your fill today will help you. However, if hunger does hit you, try occupying yourself with another activity to see if the hunger fades. Keep busy and go for walks. These are things that I try to do. Good luck!
