    After surgery

I was sore. I had a reaction to the pain meds. My spleen bled during surgery from previous scar tissues. I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. I felt great on day 7-post op. I went to work two weeks after surgery. I was not allowed to eat solid food, until the fourth week. I eat around 1,200 calories a day. I eat anything I want, but a whole lot less of it. I was on liquids for two weeks after surgery followed by one week of mushies. I have never ever vomited. I have never been stuck. I see my doctor monthly. I do blood work monthly. I take a regiment of Vitamins daily. I get at least 90 grams of Protein a day. I exercise at least 5X week for 60-minutes each time. I get fills when I need them. I have never felt pain during a fill. I have lost over 30-pounds, tons of inches, and three pant sizes. I have lots of energy and no longer have back, knee, or ankle pain. Not sure what else to tell you. Hope it helps. My recovery story is not typical as I did have complications during the surgery and recovery at the hospital. But I am doing great now! I have no regrets and I would do it again.
  3. I am so glad I am not alone. I drink them straight up; cold or room temperature. What I like most about them, is that I can slam one down quickly and feel full fast and longer. They are perfect for when I am at conferences or training, when they are serving high calorie foods that I do not want to consume. Plus, when I am stuck in freeway traffic on my commute, which is more often than not, I can drink one of those bullets and not feel like a raving starved craved lunatic when I walk in the front door. It really helps me manage my hunger.
  4. Congrats on your new baby! Perhaps a slight fill, an increase in protein, and exercise will help jump start your weight loss.

    After surgery

Not sure what you are asking. Do you want to know what it feels like after surgery?
  6. Call me crazy, but I love the taste of them. I just went to GNC at lunch today and bought a case of the orange. Yummy!

    Drinking with straws?

You know Teal, I have no idea about straw use. I never used them before, because I always drank from a water bottle. But I would like to know the reasoning behind not utilizing them.

    Exercise: Friend or Foe?

Friend for me. I am single, have kids, work full-time, I commute, and I am in the Masters Program for public administration. I use an Ipod to keep me motivated and I do exercises that I like. I am not into jumping jacks or stair climbing, so I don't do those activities.

    Dr Garth Davis- Houston, TX

I have read about him on this forum all of which is positive. Plus, I have seen him on his show, Big Medicine. He appears very thourough and involved with his patients. Do you have a list of questions already drafted for him?

    Lap Band tax deductible??

It is not elective if your doctor deems it as medically necessary for your health. Your best bet is to get a hold of a tax consultant or check with IRS.gov You can use the IRS search tool for your questions. Sorry I cannot be much more help than that
  13. Here is a thread o the topic. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f278/realize-band-vs-lap-band-49450/

    long road ahead

My doctor, was a newbie for bariatric banding. She had done less than 30. I was okay with it, because I really like her. She is a strong knowledgable woman! There also an experienced doctor with her and there was a proctor from LapBand in the surgery room as well. I have never smoked. Aftercare is important too and my doctor only performs the fills, not their assistants. There are different size Lapbands and there are different bands, such as the Realize band.

    I need Coffee!!

Give me coffee or give me death. Seriously, you don't want to meet me in the morning, until I have my java. My doctor is clear that I drink coffee and there is no dicussion whether she thinks this is a good idea or not. For me and everyone around me, it is a very good idea that I have coffee in the morning.

    From food to other "addictions"

Start slowly and build your way to it. I bought an Ipod, which motivates me to exercise to my favorite songs/music.
  19. I am sure there is, but they put me to sleep before they did that. I woke up with nothing in my throat. I was out like a light.

    I'm new, scared, excited, OMG!!

There is no cure for diabetes. It can go into remission though. It is a quicker process for gastric patients and can be a slower remission process for badning patients. There are several research studys reported in JAMA about this topic. Attached is a link that might be helpful. Diabetes Remission In Obese Patients More Likely With Weight Loss Surgery If you have access to a library, especially a local university or local college, you can review JAMA journals. http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/reprint/299/3/316?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=BARIATRIC+SURGERY&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=20&resourcetype=HWCIT
  21. I am not military, so I cannot address that questions. I was banded and completed many pre-op test, none of which required a tube being inserted down my throat. Usually, with band patients, you complete an Upper GI. Gastric patients complete an endconscopy test, which is a camera down the throat. However, you are given twighlight sleep meds for this procedure.
  22. No, it is not actually ok. It is very hard, but you need to follow your doctor's instructions. It is not like you will never east sushi again after the band. I am banded and I eat sushi once in awhile. I eat small bites of sushi very slow and I have no problems. So follow the pre-op diet so you don't have any surgery surprises. P.S. I never went for the last meal sillyness.

    Question

When you weigh under 200. 199 and below.
  24. My first fill was at surgery with 3cc being inserted into my 10cc LapBand. My second fill was 1.5cc and the third fill was 1cc. The second and third fill gave me restriction for a couple of weeks, but then it fades. Cannot wait to hit the holy grail my "Sweet Spot"!
