    Why!!!!

My doctor wants us to drink right up to the point we start eating. Their reasoning is that the Water makes you fuller and you consume less food. My doctor does not allow us to drink, while we are consuming ffod. And we cannot drink after a meal...we have to wait at least 60 minutes. It is interesting the variances between doctor's and their instructions.

Congrats and best wishes on your journey!

    gall stones

There have been other Bandsters here that have had the gallbladder removed during the banding. Will your doctor consider that, so you don't have to go through to surgeries and two recoveries?

    A Question for Runners

This is a great question. I always wondered when I could start running again. I use to be an avid runner as a teenager and in my twenties, but stopped when life became busy. Anyway, I power walk on the treadmill and log in my exercise on the exercise thread of this forum. I was reading through other peoples exercise and saw that there were people there who were my size running. How do the do that, I thought to myself. I thought I would not be able to do that until, I was in Onderland. But if other people are doing that then why can't I do that. And guess what, I can do that. I just began slowly doing it. It is hard, but every day I add more minutes of jogging/running to my exercise program. I really cannot believe I am doing it, but I am. I started running around 5.5 weeks post op. Now I am not a quick runner, but I will get there one day. I just know I will! Anyway, it is helping me lose more weight and tons of inches. And it has not caused any knee issues for me. Good luck!

    Few questions

Yes, I felt hungry after surgery, while I was still in the hospital and that was with a 3cc fill at surgery. While I was in the hospital a burped so long and loud, I amazed myself. I never had gas issues, until the band. Now I do not have the burping thing anymore, but gas from the other end continue to occur at 2.5 months post op.

I have never heard of this before???
  9. Not my experience, but I am sure there is a lot of Fluid and gas retention there. Glad you had your surgery!

    Pouch bigger--help!!

Chuck, I have rad that on this forum before. I have heard that the doctor removes all the Fluid to give the pouch a rest/stomach. During this time, people go on the 5-day pouch test, which might help shrink the pouch. I don't know much other than that. Here is a link. Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test Good luck!

    January 2009 Exercise Challenge

Today: No work-outs. The dentist says my root canal has a bad infection, so I am now on a high dose of a different antibiotic. Let's hope it works.

    Exercise frequency

I think the energy comes from more exericse. Sounds crazy, I know, but I gradual increase my exercise and I have more energy. My doctor also has me taking B12 under the tongue, which is suppose to help with energy as well. Right now I am doing 60 minutes on the treadmill 5 to 6 times a week. At least five times, but I try and do more. I always give myself one day off for good behavior. :bored:

    Work outs and restriction

I go completely tight after a workout. This cannot be good for your overall health. Have you considered taking out a small portion of your fill? Talk to your doctor about the issues occurring with your last fill. Good luck!

Any Deaths due to lap band

There are no guarantees in life. All surgery minor or major have associated risks. Your doctor and his staff will do all they can to protect you. And I know you will do all you can by following your doctor's instructions. Overall, there are studies that show the death rate for gastric banding to be about .01%, which is very low. Sorry I cannot quote the studies for you verbatim, but if you do a Google search you will find information on it. Good luck!

    Should I do this?

Hello tgp157: I have not experienced anything negative about the band. At least not yet, but I am newly banded, so there is some time. It is nerve racking going through the insurance approval process, but you get through it. It is nerve racking completing all the required tests, but you get through it. It is nerve racking wondering if this is the right the decision, but you get through that. It is nerve racking wondering if you will wake up after surgery, but you get through that. It is nerve racking to see your hair falling out, but you get through that. It is nerve racking to see the scale not move, but you get through that. With the support of your family, friends, and LBT you will get through your journey and come out a healthier person for it. Good luck!
  16. But not everyone has the same story as NoPJB. Actuall her story is not typical. It can happen, but for the most part the Band works. I have never been stuck with the band. I have never vomited with the band. And I have lost over 30 pounds. Don't base your journey on someone else's journey. Our individual experiences do not compare. Check out the threads on this forum that show all the weight loss. Draw your inspiration from there if need be.
  17. Nessie: All I can say, is three-teenage daughters. Girl, you have your hands full. You must have the patience of a Saint! Raising three daughters in the world today is no easy task. The images projected at young girls has created a hostile environment for girls and women. To fat, to thin, not this, not that. It is just to much pressure. You know your girls best. You know what they should hear and see. Only you can really decide what is best for them; whether or not they need to know about your health and medical care. What I told or did not tell my kids will really never help you with your decision. Best of luck on your journey and raising your daughters.
  18. Whygirl: If you are exercising you will lose fat and gain muscle. Muscle weighs more. I bet your losing lots of inches. Don't worry to much about the scale at this point, since you were just banded. Right now your body is in recovery mode and you don't have a fill yet. Give it time, you will get there. Take care,

    Things that you miss

I am so with Jachut. I can eat anything, only a lot less of it. I would love to just belly up to the food bar and have at it. But alas, it shall never be, healthy living is now for me. (I am such a poet) :bored:
  20. Hello Esantos628: Well, how can you be alone when you have so many people on this forum to support you? Do you need a fill? How are you doing with your exercise? Are you seeing your doctor for aftercare? How is your Protein intake? And do you really know how much food/calories you are consuming in a day?
  21. Wow! 4-hours is a long time. Congrats and good luck!
  22. Hello NOPJB: I am sorry you are going through this. We all have the expectation that we are going to lose weight with the Band. Afterall, why go through at least 6-months (on average) of insurance and doctor requirements. Not to mention preparing our bodies for the surgery and aftercare. Truly, we do have the right to expect the Band, this tool to work. However, the key word is tool. It is only one factor of so many factors that help you gain control. Exercise, healthy food choices, and aftercare are major factors that determine how well our Band will work for us. No judgment here Nopjb, just some suggestions; 1. Meet with your doctor to discuss the lack of weight loss 2. Find a local support group 3. Start exercising, even if it is a DVD at home or a walk around the block Best regards!

    Do you miss fast food?

We didn't eat fast food pre-band. We just don't like it. And it is expensive. My teenage son battles with anorexia, OCD, and Bi-polar and he struggles with food. If anyone were to bring him home fast food or if I drove him to a fast food chain he would have a melt down. Needless to say, I am only allowed to cook healthy food at my house. If I bring in junk food or unhealthy food, he throws it in the dumpster when I am not looking. He basically keeps me honest. Thus, to make a long story short, we didn't eat fast food pre-band nor do we eat it post band. :-)
  24. Totally off topic, but I love your aviator! Good luck! :cursing:
