  1. It is hard to wait for 60-minutes. After a meal, I just keep myself busy, while paying attention to the clock. I find if I distract myself with activties than I don't think about the Water. I also try to avoid salty to foods. I love the salt, but the 60-minute rule makes it really hard to have these type of salty food items.

    Advice on 6mth Diet

My insurance case manager told me not to go below a BMI of 40. I don't see how that can be construed as insurance fraud, rather I see it as knowing what is required to achieve approval. I was border BMI as well. This really stressed me out during the 6-month supervised diet. Talk about pressure. Anyway, I believe I weighed 249 after the the 6-months. And I was approved by the insurance company to go to the next requirement.

    erosion!!!

Well, the chances of that occurring are not that often. How did you feel about the surgery before you heard their story? Were you aware that there are risks associated to the band? All I can say, is yes complications can and do occur with the band, however complications can and do occur with other medical procedures as well. If you have confidence in your doctor and his staff then move forward with the surgery. Really, there are no guarantees in life, so move forward and make the best of your life. Take care and good luck!
  5. Heather, did you make it to the ER? Is everything okay?

Which comes first? Cardio or Weights?

I am so not the expert on this topic. But I do cardio at least 5X a week 60 minutes each time. I do cardio first. I don't know if it is the right thing to do. I am not a professional trainer. I just like the way it makes me feel, so I do that first. I strecth afterwards and use my body weight as resistance.
  8. MLE, I would not proceed with regular food until your doctor gave you permission to do so. I presuming they did not, sorry if my assumption is wrong. Please be very careful with your post-op diet instructions. Your stomach is healing. If you are suppose to be on liquids right now, then please get back on them. You have come way to far to risk your healing process. Increase the liquid Protein even more. Call your doctor and ask if you can move to full liquids or if he/she will allow yogurt or sf pudding. I know the Bandster Hell stage is difficult, we have been there too, but we know how important this phase is so talk to your doctor about your post-op diet. Best regards.
  9. Hello Bob1212: This is a very interesting web link. Thank you for sharing. I believe I am a better person for knowing both sides of a topic. I had no idea how many people have medical issues with the band. I did some research on the band. I read JAMA articles and other medical journal articles, but they provide statistics. It is more meaningful for me, to talk to people who are doing great on the band and who are not, so that I can make an informed decision. Medical technology is not perfect. Because we are all individuals with different DNA, some will tend to respond to a medical procedure better than someone else. I suppose the disclaimer that doctors might consider giving is "Proceed at your own risk, reaction and outcomes to this medical technology/procedure might not be typical." Anyway, thanks for the link. I thought it was insightful. Best regards.

    Which embarrasses you more?

It is going to take a whole lot more than a discussion on my weight loss to make me embarressed.
  11. Yes, people who are barely over 200 pounds should have access as well as those that are slightly below 200 pounds. The medical field should drop the BMI to 34 as a requirement with no com-morbid.

    Massage ??

I will send you a private message.
  17. I have increased my work out and find that one NewWhey protein bullet or Isopure hits the spot for me. But I just had a fill yesterday and have great restriction, so I am full for 4-hours after a protein drink. Before fill, I was good for about 2-hours only.

    2 week pre-op diet

Follow your doctor pre-op instructions and ask your doctor how much weight they want you to lose. It is always best to refer to your doctor regarding your WLS.

    Preop Endoscopy Procedure

I have never had this procedure done, but my mom had it done a couple of weeks ago. My dad actually had to be there for her because she was really in a fog from the meds they gave her to place her in a twilight sleep. She said she felt no pain and the drugs were good. My mom is 64.

    Massage ??

I have never heard that we should avoid a massage. I will not give that up.

    Help! I need protein

I drink the Isopure fruit flavor Protein drinks and the New Whey protein bullets. I like the flavors of both.
  22. TQUAD64

    Protein drinks ?

Well I like the Isopure fruit drinks, which have 40 grams of protein. I also like the NewWhey protein bullets, which have 42 grams of protein. I but them at GNC. But other people have bought these items at Wal-Mart. I have never founf them at my local Wal-Mart.
  23. Heather: So sorry this happening to you. Sounds like you are making the right decisions by contacting your doctor. I am sure they can refer you to a local ER, which can do the unfill.

    Just wondering

Yep, the pain I had was difficult to manage with the pain meds given at the hospital. Because I did not do very well with the pain meds and because of another issue, I stayed in the hospital for 2.5 days. But by day 7-post-op I was feeling great! I was sore, but not in pain. It does get better. Good luck!

Lap Band Fills / Adjustment Info

That is a good question. My doctor never me gave me pre-fill diet instructions. However, I do not eat before a fill. I drink fluids and then go in for the fill. As an example, yesterday I had my fourth fill. I was not expecting a fill, but called in for a last minute fill. Lucky for me I had only had fluids prior to the fill. The reason why I say that, for me, I get very tight when they are filling me. I can literally feel the difference; the tightening. Anyway, I was on liquids all day yesterday and will be on liquids all of today. Then on mushies Friday and Saturday. Good luck!
