    overeating on soups

I don't believe soups will damage a band. It is the solids you need to stay away from when your in recovery mode and you are staying away from solids. Will your doctor allow you to have liquid Protein, so you can get full and be satisfied?

    Hello

How is your after care going? Are you seeing your doctor and getting fills when needed? How is your exercising coming along? You have the tool already. It's a matter of maximizing all the benefits of that tool towards your healthy life style. You have come this far by having the surgery, so don't give up and don't look back. Just move forward.

    What to eat...

Follow your doctor's instructions regarding food intake after you have surgery. I am presuming you have not had surgery yet. Every doctor has different post op diet instructions during the recovery/healing phase. I did two weeks liquids, one week mushies, and then gradually had solids. As far as what to eat after post op when you are allowed solids, you have to play it by ear. I can eat a variety of different foods and I don't get stuck. I have great restriction and eat very very small meals. I was not a big fan of fast food, so we don't do pizza or burgers, or such. We just have home cooked meals. So when I make these meals, I eat whatever the family eats, but it is a whole lot less. Good luck!

Why the need to test it?

When you get this urge go to your bathroom mirror, lift open your shirt and run your clean hands over your surgery scars, and tell yourself you just got banded and need time to heal. But whatever you do, don't test your band. It is not worth the risk!

    Home Excercise Options

For a matter of convenience, and because I don't like to share my toys with strangers, I have a very nice treadmill that I utilize 5X a week any time of the day or night at my home. I have lots of videos and I am gearing up to utilize my yoga DVD, I just need to dust it off. I also have utilized Sparkpeople.com how to exercise videos. It's a free service. I have had great success, more so than when I at the gym. Really, home workout just fit better into my busy schedule. And it save me money.

    What if...? cheese?

On occassion, I will have a glass a wine. Not that often, but I will if I feel like it. I sip it slowly and drink about 4 ounces. Talk about a light weight, but 4 ounces does me in.
  8. At first, right after surgery, I was told not to worry about calorie intake and nutrients. I was told to take my chewable Vitamins every day. The staff at the hospital gave me several little one ounce cups and told me to drink one at least every 15-minutes, and drink more if I could. I always drank more Fluid. I would not gulp it down, but I would sip it down. I could sip an ounce every couple of minutes, when I was awake. For the most part, I was drinking, Water, crystal light, and Isopure Protein drinks. The Isopure Protein Drinks are like a crystal light product, in that they come in fruit flavors, but have 40 grams of protein, and are a clear fluid. Meaning you can see through the product. So I never felt dehydrated, yes I did not get all my nutrients, but I survived and I am doing well. Just focus on the fluid intake during your recovery and you will do great!
  9. I know, I know, I can do this. After all, I survived Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve, and the Super Bowl with my new Band. But when I saw the billboard today that said, "The Girls Scout Cookies are Coming" it freaked me out. OMG, my favorites are coming back. You think I'm crazy don't you? But I love those darn cookies and they are only here once a year. It is going to take all my Band will power and the support of my LBT buddies to get me through this.

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

Yeah, I heard it was the parents and then they cancelled it.
  11. OMG how will you ever do that? I love supporting Girl Scouts, their programs rock! Those Cookies rock! I just have to be strong and not consume a whole box in one sitting like my pre-band days. I don't think I can physically eat a whole box now that I am banded, but ohhhh the temptation.

    What if...? cheese?

To be honest, I have not given up any foods. I eat very small portions of the same foods I ate before the band. As an example, every now and then I will have a slice of sourdough bread toasted. It goes down without a problem. I eat sushi as well. I also eat veggies and fruit. Shocking I know, but it is a healthy diet that I want to consume. I am losing weight, have dropped 3 pants sizes, have great restriction, get over 90 grams of Protein in a day, and exercise 5X a week. With the band, I have never been stuck, never vomited, no slime, and no bps. I just eat so much less. I signed up for the band, because I was told you could eat the same foods as before, but just a whole lot less of them. Good luck!

    Still learning

Patty, how is your after care going? Perhaps a slight unfill is necessary?
  16. Well, I never smoked cigerates nor have I been drunk. But what comes to my mind is if your considering life-style changes then why approach it half way? Why not consider a health-style change and give up those unhealthy habits? Sure, it is easy for me to say, because I don't get drunk nor do I smoke, but why put your body through all that? Anyway, as far as normal. What I considered normal is what drove me to this surgery in the first place. I never want to go back to where I was before. Eating what I thought was normal. :-) If you decide to have the procedure, then approach it as a health-style change. You are the priority, so in that regards put your health first and move towards eliminating unhealthy habits. Good luck on your journey!

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

I agree. She can have as many kids and she can afford to support. I wanted to have 4 kids, but I could only afford to have two. I want a pony too, but I cannot afford the up-keep.

so you had a bad day

Sorry your in a funk today. There are many people here to support you, so we will all start new tomorrow and forget about yesterday! Take care!

    Very curious!!!

The only way to confirm a stretched pouch is via your doctor. Call your doctor and discuss this with she/he. If you have recovered from the flu, then perhaps you just need a fill. Congrats on all your weight loss. Keep up the great work! Best regards!
  22. Hi Kayla: Here are a few I asked my doctor. How many times have you performed this procedure? Has anyone that you performed this procedure on died do to complications during the surgery or shortly thereafter? How many band slips have occurred to patients that you have operated on? How many band erosion issues? How many patients had to have their bands removed, because of complications? What do you recommend is best for me? Do you actually perform the fills or does your nurse or PA? What is your policy on fills? Are you aggressive with fills or are you conservative with fills? There are many more questions, but other posters will provide those to you, I am sure. Good luck!
  23. Not sure if there has been a discussion here. I am sure there has, but really the only discussion that matters regarding protein intake is that which occurs between the WLS doctor or nutritionist and their patient.
