My spleen was nicked, cause it to bleed during surgery. All is well now. I exercise 5X a week. I am losing weight like crazy and inches. I have lots of energy! I work full-time. And I am finishing my thesis so I can get my MPA diploma. All is well with me.

We do not do fast food at my house. We never did before the band either. However, there are times when I go out to dinner with family and friends. I have gone to high tea and not had a problem. I have ate chinese food at the local restaurant without a problem. I have had sushi at the Japanese pub by our house with no problem. I just eat very small portions and chew very well.

I stayed 2.5 days, because of complications. The expected me to recover, give blood every 3 hours with vitals, and to walk. Lots of walking.

Lap Band surgery worth it?
TQUAD64 replied to leelevy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have gone to restaurants with family, friends and co-workers, since being banded and it is true I do get full rather quickly. But my enjoyment is not centered on the food, rather with the company and conversation that is occuring. Your husband can always take left overs home from the restaurant or perhaps you can share an entree. As far as food. Each banded person is different as to what their band allows them to eat. Personally, so far, I can eat any food type. So when I do have lunch or supper at a restaurant, I can eat anything off the menu. Does this mean that I do, no. I just eat in moderation and I have very small portions of my favorite foods. Good luck! -
Gloucester, your post cracks me up. A food pusher granny. I agree that you are the mom and thus are in control of raising your child. However, I don't think screaming at someone on the answer machine is the best approach to resolving conflict. I think hostility only creates miscommunication. I really do understand your frustration and believe you are 100% right in being upset in regards to this matter. Can you speak to your mom in person? My mom drives me nuts too! There are times when I can easily go off on her. But then I remember there are many people living without their moms. And then I think, my mom is in her middle sixties and not in the best of health. Moms don't last forever, so try to resolve the conflict and appreciate your mom, while you have her.

I have never heard of them taking out the gallstones, but rather taking the whole gallbladder??? I had my gallbladder reomved 10-years before I was banded. They did three small incisions on my tummy. I have read on this forum that doctors do both procedures at the same time. I have also read other threads where doctors perform the procedures at different times.

I like this show! Jon and Kate work hard to support their kids. They keep it real and tell it like it is. Besides, Kate is real brash. She is brutally organized and discipline flourishes throughout the house. Frugal too! Yes, they do use the media to help support their family. But it just seems different with this family. I mean they were not living with their mom and dad, when the decied to have another child, but ended up with 6-more. They were both working when they had the twins and when she became preggers with the 6. I just get the sense that the mom of the Octuplets did this for more than just the love of having kids. :-(

Realize Band or Lap Band

Your welcome and good luck with your decision.:cursing: -
OMG, your killing me here! LOL:biggrin:

Wow! Who cares what we have to say, what does your doctor say? This is very scary and I am sure your doctor would have seem feedback.

Well it looks like you were banded January 2008, so you are not new. If you had a recent fill, this could be causing the issue. You might want to go to fluids for 24-hours. However, if fluids are giving you a problem, I would be calling the doctor.

This is the point to be worried. Call your doctor.

Thank you for the info! :cursing:

You found your sweet spot?!! How much can you eat??
TQUAD64 replied to MeganMatters's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I was given another fill since my last post and I must say it is a new experience for. On January 28, I knew something was wrong with my January 10 fill, so I saw the doctor on 1/28/09 to determine what was occuring. The issue was, I could eat way to much for someone who just had a fill on January 10. So I lay on the table, while the doctor takes out the old fill to see what was left. And I am missing 1cc. 1cc happens to be the amount of fill I received on January 10. The nurse, doctor and I look at each other in confusion. Anyway, the doctor puts back the 1.cc and gives me another .5cc for good measure. So on January 28, I received 1.5cc in my band for a total of 5.5cc in a 10cc band. I must say that this fill is really like no other. I am very tight! Oh sure I keep fluids down and I do not get stuck. I don't slime or bps. But with this latest fill, I eat very very small portions and I eat every three hours. Where before, I would eat a larger portion, but ate every 5-6 hours. I am not sure what this is about. It is all new to me. But I am dropping weight like crazy and it has only been 1-week, since that fill. Anyway, I am monitoring the situation. I see the doctor again on March 4th and we are keeping track of cc loss. Thus far, cc loss has not been significant, but something to continue to watch. -
Since I have not conducted a longitudinal study to determine if there are issues, nor have I found research pertaining to this matter, I cannot state whether or not there really is an issue. Really, the person that I am concerned with the most regarding all things "Band" is me. I do care about other Band people and will offer advice, where I can, but really the only person that matters in my band journey is me. I can control me, but I cannot control others, thus why make others perceived failures my problem?

Now she has a spokesperson she hired to spin her story. She will make money off this for sure.:cursing:

Sorry, but I disagree with this statement. Just because a person is voicing a concern about what food they can have or not have after surgery is not cause to have doubt if someone is ready for surgery or not. On the contrary, I believe it shows rather great maturity by which the poster is reflecting on legitimate concerns regarding future choices. I had the same concerns. What will my life be if I have the band? What will I be giving up and what will I receive in return? Will I not be able to eat regular foods ever again??? Do I have to cook seperate meals for my family? Can I never participate in my work's pot luck? Will I always be the odd person out at social gatherings whipping out a Protein shake, while others consume "normal foods"? After careful research and discussion with my surgeon, I learned that there are no banned foods. I can consume, what I wish. Now, whether my band allows that are not is a story to be told. But currently, I have not had any food stuck issues. And although I can consume any type of food, it does not mean I do. I am cautious. I am new. I am learning. And thank-goodness my doctor and nutritionist supported me through my food concerns and allowed me to have the surgery.

Welcome LBT! It sounds like your a good candidate for the procedure. But have you considered the long term life-style changes that come with any type of WLS? WLS are a tool. You can cheat around WLS procedures and never lose weight and/or gain weight. But Kaitlyn, if you play by the WLS rules, you will acquire a healthy life-style, filled with energy and confidence. WLS is not easy. It is hard work, but well worth it. Here is a link to the teen section. Teens - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum Good luck with your decision.

Some people react to a tight fill immediately at a doctor's office, while others can have an unusual reaction one hour later or weeks later. Monitor your situation, if you are unable to drink fluids without feeling sick to the stomach then you need to call your doctor. If you keep fluids down with no problem, but start having problems with mushies or solids, then you need to call your doctor. Good luck!

Stomach feeling- top full bottom empty?
TQUAD64 replied to als74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, for the first time I have noticed that. I had my fourth fill last week and I am noticing a lot of variances with it of which is the top full bottom empty syndrome. This fill is causing me to lose weight like crazy, but I am eating every 3-hours, which includes very small portions. I will have a couple of ounces of yogurt and become full but yet hungry. Previous fills, made me feel full all over for at least 5-hours. I am monitoring the situation. I keep fluids and solids down, but it is just a weird feeling. I might have .5cc out on my Marc 4th visit with the doctor; just not sure yet.
