Did you know that they will be doing a similar procedure with no incisions soon?
TQUAD64 replied to cookiebaby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard of this procedure on the Discovery Channel, but it was not for banding. I believe it is in the trial stages. -
I have never heard of this nor have I read this on this forum. Band size is determined by the doctor and based on your internal anatomy when they open you up.

Again, if you cannot keep fluids down, then you need to have a slight unfill. I would not let this go past tomorrow if it were me. -
Today: 60 minutes on treadmill @ 4% incline for 3.4 miles of jogging mixed with power walking.

I have read of people on LBT that have the Realize Band and are almost filled to capacity without reaching their sweet spot. I believe you are correct that the Realize Band does hold 9cc, but I am not an expert on this band as I have the LapBand AP. You might want to post this question on the Realize Band thread. And/or research that thread. I bet someone on that thread will have some helpful information. I am sorry I cannot offer more than that. I am sorry that the results from this particular band are not what you hoped for. Take care! Here is a link to it. My doctor has been very good with my fills. I have never had any pain during or after a fill. I lay on a table, a pillow is placed under my lower back. My doctor gives me a numbing agent, which is injected into my stomach with a small needle. When this occurs, I feel a very slight pin prick that does not give me any pain . After which the doctor has me do a stomach crunch with my head looking towards the ceiling. She pats my stomach locating the port, whereby she inserts the needle into the port. She then takes out the old fill and measures it. She then replaces the old fill and puts in new fill. It takes less than 5-minutes and never has caused me any pain. After the fill, I drink Water to make sure I can keep fluids down. Then I go back to work. I stay on fluids for 2 days, the mushies for two days, then back on solids. I have never has any problems with fills and have been able to keep fluids and food down. Good luck!

My first fill occured during surgery on 11/11/08, when my doctor placed 3cc into my band and then closed me up. Then on December 10, I had my second fill.

At 2.5 weeks post op, I was just starting the mushie stage of my post op diet, so snacking was not happening for me. I was eating very soft foods and trying to get my Protein and fluids in. How is your protein intake? Try and keep your protein intake up because it does help keep you full for longer periods of time, which might help you syop snacking.

Your post is a little confusing, did your doctor give you a fill today of 7cc and then removed 1cc or did you have 5cc in your band and your doctor gave you 1cc? If your doctor filled you today with 7cc, I would say that is a very aggressive fill and should not occur. I am not a doctor, but a 7cc fill at one time is just inappropriate. If you had 5cc in your band and your doctor gave you 1cc today and you are unable to keep Water down, you really need to go back and get a slight unfill. I know that is a real bummer and might perhaps cost you extra money, but your health is really important. You don't want to become dehydrated. Good luck! -
This unbelievable!

It's been 3 years with lapband
TQUAD64 replied to nanadi1118's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You can do this! We know you can, because you went through all the hard work of getting banded. Posting here is a great first step. Another step would be to get a slight fill and get into a support group. Never give up...Don't look back...Start tomorrow anew..And move forward! -

I don't like needles. Yet, I donate blood every other month and get my fills every month. And I have my blood tested every month for my bariatric doctor. But I never ever look at the needles. I turn my head or close my eyes, but I never look at the needles. Out of my sight therefore out of my mind.

Serious Second Thoughts
TQUAD64 replied to Melissa Anne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your right the band is a tool and will not help you to select food. You can eat foods with the band, which will cause you to gain weight, which really defeats the purpose of the band. If you have an issue with snacking and eating sweets and carbs, you might want to consider the by-pass surgery. Talk to your doctor and get his/her recommendation. Good luck! -
Yep Kiz, I hear you. I am coming up on two weeks this Wed and I am hoping the restriction stays with me and I do not lose any more of my fill.

I cannot wait to see the entire video on NightLine tomorrow night. They are suppose to show pictures of all the new babies. I wonder how much money she is getting for appearing on that show?

1. Take airplane flights without feeling like a big girl and travel the world. 2. Go on roller coaster rides without wondering if I will fit in the ride. 3. Run a marathon, which I am training for right now. -
That is a long time to go without having a fill. Why was there a delay with getting your first fill? With each fill I received at the doctor's office, I would have restriction for a couple of weeks and then nothing. My last fill was on January 28, so I am hoping my restriction will last longer than two weeks. Good luck!

Be honest - slight unfill before a vacation?
TQUAD64 replied to new_me_2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think your question is reasonable and you should not be flogged for feedback. I personally, would not get an unfill for the cruise, as it implies my primary focus of the cruise is food. Will you not be able to eat on the cruise as you eat now at home? Why the need for the unfill? Is it because you want to consume more food than what you can now? If it is, I would question the real reason why you are going on the cruise. Is the cruise for eating or sight seeing? How will you explain the slight unfill to your doctor? I also wonder where does the bad food concept derive from? There are no bad foods. Good luck! -
My three fills have been non-eventful. No pian during the procedure, which was not by fluro. I have not been over-filled. I have never had an issue with slime, bps, heartburn, vomit, or being stuck with the band. I think it is important to be aware of possible issues. However, I think it is equally important to share your concerns with your doctor. If you are not to squeemish, watch a fill video on YouTube. Every person's fill experience is different. Realize for every bad fill experience you read about that there are five times as many good fill experiences. Your chances for a fill complication are less with fluro technology. Follow you doctor's post fill instructions and you should have no problem.

It was a couple of years of research and fear before I actually worked up the nerve to speak to my PC.

I am very interested in this post. Please let us know what their reason was when you find out. Right now, I have employer life insurance, but I am planning to retire and would need to find my private life-insurance.

HIPPA protects your right not to disclose your medical information to anyone. FMLA protects your right to keep your job, while you recover from a health matter, which will keep you away from your job for a period of time. Or FMLA can be used intermittently. There are requirements of FMLA, so here is a link for your review. U.S. Department of Labor - Employment Standards Administration (ESA) - Wage and Hour Division (WHD) - Family and Medical Leave Act You do not have to provide any detail regarding your health issue to your employer. You do need to provide a medical note for a long term absence. My employer does not know I was banded. I actually took two weeks off on vacation time. Plus, I am on FMLA for my monthly follow up appointments with my bariatric surgeon. My surgeon had to complete my employers FMLA verification form. I instructed my doctor not to place the name of the bariatric center on the FMLA form or to send me any documentation paper work that would state bariatric or weight loss on it. I basically instructed my doctor to just sign her name, as I did not want to disclose what medical issues I was under. As you know, a lot of doctors have standard forms that reflect the name of their centers and what type of doctor they are. Good luck!
