I cannot feel the band around my stomach. But I do feel restriction when I eat. I have lost around 37 pounds since November and have not had any major problems. Sorry to hear about your boss in her troubles. Good luck with the surgery!

Hey Hey Hey, be nice to us who live in California, we are not all self-centered breeding machines. Plus, I did post on this thread the cost of a licensed day care center in California for one child going full time. The data reflects 2006, which was around $650.00 a month, but it is now around $800 a month in California. How on earth do you pay for that with so many kids???

It was on my back about three weeks ago, but I had it cut to my shoulder, thinking that would help. Maybe I will get a blond wig.

Okay someone is threatening Octo-mommy. More tax payers dollars at work to investigate. LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles police say they will investigate death threats against octuplet mom Nadya Suleman. Police Lt. John Romero says Thursday that officers are meeting with Suleman's publicist Mike Furtney about the flood of angry phone calls and e-mail messages. Word that the 33-year-old single, unemployed mother is receiving public assistance to care for the 14 children she conceived through in vitro fertilization has stoked furor among many people. Furtney says 500 new e-mails were received early Thursday. Fortney says Suleman is currently living in an undisclosed location and spends time with all of her kids every day. He says not all of the calls are angry. One family from the Midwest has invited Suleman and her brood to live on their farm. Even before the 33-year-old single, unemployed mother gave birth to octuplets last month, she had been caring for her six other children with the help of $490 a month in food stamps, plus Social Security disability payments for three of the youngsters. The public aid will almost certainly be increased with the new additions to her family. In her only media interview, Suleman told NBC's "Today" she doesn't consider the public assistance she receives to be welfare and doesn't intend to remain on it for long.

Actually Pattygreen, your threads on this topic espouse God. God this God that. It makes me wonder how far to the right do you stand and can you see past the wrongness of Octo-mamma's actions without saying God in the same sentence. I'm telling you, someone is drinking the wholly water! And again, Patty, with all do respect, your ten kids did not all come at once. Come talk to us when you have 8 preemies with health care issues. Come tell us how you and your husband raised 8 preemie babies with your 6 other kids.

Pre-surg jitters!?!
TQUAD64 replied to presleysyndrome's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very cool day to be banded. Happy Valentines Day! -
This actually happened to me, although my primary care doctor and nutritionist did not give me the questioning look. My insurance company assigned me a RN case manager who had WLS herself. She was a great resource and was knowledgeable about the process. However, when I provided her updates about my weight loss during the 6-month supervised diet, she told me that the insurance company would not cover me if I went below 40BMI. I was around 42BMI when I started the process and losing weight brought me to 40.8 or something odd like that. It was really nerve racking, because I would read on this forum that your weight and BMI for insurance approval was based on your first consult with your PC. Then I read it is based on your first weigh in with your bariatric surgeon. Then the surgeon's office told me something entirely different. I just followed the case manager's advice and did not go below a BMI of 40.

Actually, I am training for a marathon. And I am really just at the begining stages. I am following a training plan from the marathon that I am hoping I can run in on Thanksgiving Day! Run to Feed The Hungry in Sacramento. Come join us Jachut, it will be a lot cooler in Cali. I know I am no where near the level I need to be at, but I am taking small steps towards my goal. And I don't feel comfortable decreasing my training. Daily calories range from 1,200 to 1,500 now, where I use to have 1,000 to 1,200 a day. Jachut and Lulu, this hair loss is freaking me out!

No more favorite foods?
TQUAD64 replied to Oceannites's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I have not given up eating a variety of different foods. I love my veggies, not sure why, because I did not love them as a kid. And I eat bread, fruits, meats, and carbs. Shocking but true! I just eat so much less of everything. If I am having a treat, I eat a small portion of it and I don't eat it every day, but I do have treats. I have found with my band, I have great restriction right now, and I am able to consume any type of food. But I eat small portions. However, there are people who cannot eat certain food types because they get stuck. You really will not know what you can and cannot eat until after surgery when you are on solids. You doctor might have specific instructions for you too! Good luck! -
New and trying to figure it all out!!
TQUAD64 replied to misskrista_369's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Krista and welcome to LBT! Research is a great first start. I would also contact my insurance to find out their requirements and what bariatric doctors are in the network. As far as giving up certain foods forever. I was never told that by my doctor. I was always told I can all foods types, but just in modification. Now I know there are some people who are not able to eat certain foods because it does not agree with their band. I am not one of those people and I am able to eat small portions of all food types. Good luck with your research! -
As far as h-pylori, I have seen several posts from people who were diagnosed with this and were treated with 14 days of antibiotics and then were banded. You can use the search tool at the top of the web page and put in a key work like h-pylori to find threads with this information. Good luck!

I am not sure if it will be okay, but I would call my doctor to play it safe.

Wow! Alcohol after being post-op for about what 2 or maybe 3 weeks??? I don't know about that and I did not do that. I had wine for New Years Eve and to be honest it really went straight to my head. I was banded on 11/11/08. What does your doctor think about this?

Obsessed with numbers?!?!
TQUAD64 replied to Thegirlnextdoor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 to 2 pounds a week is average, so keep up the good work! -
Okay, I am going to go off topic here. A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to buy a home, which I really really desire!!! The mortgage company was going to hook me up with one of those zero down and adjusted mortgages, which would give me low payments at first and get me into a home. Home prices at the time were sky rocketing in Cali and I felt so much pressure to buy one. I knew in my heart that this was my dream come true...Home ownership as a single woman, something I really really want! But, being the realist that I am, I knew that if anything were to happen once that mortgage rate adjusted, there would be no way I could make the payments. So, I am still saving. I will tell you I am just as ticked off at people who took on mortgages that they obivously could not afford and now we are all paying for it. For me, its just of matter of financial common sense. If you cannot afford it you cannot have it, so why is that concept so hard for people to understand?

The PC believes that the stress of the increased activity is messing with my metabolism. I feel a little bit more drained and joint aches in the finger, so I am thinking thyroid again! But he is thinking to much exercise. I am hoping it's just the 3-6 month when hair loss starts happening for some people. I take b12 under my tongue.
-
The reason why I am so ticked is because I was raised in a manner that if you want something bad enough you earn the money to buy it and support it. I wanted a big family too! To me 4 was big, but that was what I really wanted, but we could not afford to support them, so we had two. I knew where I had to draw the line in order to provide the best opportunities for the children. I knew I did not want to be on government assistance to have more children. You know, there are many other things I want in life too, but it is beyond my means at this time to afford those things. So I will save and hopefully I will be able to have those those things that I want. But if I am not able to acquire what I really want then it just was not meant to be. I am not going to force my desires on the backs of the tax payers.

Not having a dad in the picture is the worse of all. Are you off your rocker? How about having more kids when you are not able to take care of the 6 you already have being the worse of all??? And how many times are you going to evoke God's name and His will into this sick twisted story? Pattygreen are you dipping into the wholly water or what, because again your arguments are weak and unrealistic. Read Kats post and do the math. She cannot provide 100% of herself to each child. And she does not have the financial means to support her children.

California day care centers that are licensed charge around $800 per kid for full-time care. I hear more co-workes talking about it all the time as they struggle to pay the fees. Here is an article from 2006 with some old stats on day care costs. High costs of child care can lead to lifestyle changes, adjustments - USATODAY.com

Could fall, hell it already has fallen upon us Californians with Octo-Mom collecting food stamps and other services for her 6 older children. Really, it just infuriates:cursing: me to no end that Octo-Mom cannot afford the 6 she has already and now there are 8 more. Where is CPS???? Mom is not able to take care of her 6 kids at home and one has to wonder how she is going to manage 8 preemies and all their health care issues.
-
Pattygreen why will you not admit the wrongness to bring children into this world without the ability to provide for them via your own finances? Living off of government assistance to support her 6-kids that she has already is a clear sign of her inability to provide for her children. Plus, living in her parents home with reduced rent is another sign. Your arguments are weak and are based on projections of what might happen in the future. But at this point, this woman does not have the financial means to provide food, shelter, and medical care for her kids. I am for people having large families, but only when they can take care of their families on their own without government assistance. Why don't you come to California and help me support this selfish woman achieve her dream of a large family. We can take my tax dollars that I work so hard for and combine it with your tax dollars and help her out? How soon can you get to California and help us dole out some tax dollars to Octo-Mom?

I took two weeks off. I have a full-time stationary job and I was in school full-time at the time (I am now done with school, just need to submit the thesis). I have two older adult children (one at home who is mentally ill and the other who lives out of state) so I did not have to worry about taking care any small kids. However, being single and not telling anyone about the details of this surgery, left me on my own for recovery. I planned ahead a time and purchased all my supplies in advance. And when my supplies ran short and I could not drive, I went on line and had groceries delivered. As far as cooking, I bought items that my son could heat up in the microwave, which I know is not the best of nutrition, but I just wanted to really focus on me and recover; not cook. I cleaned the house spotless before surgery, because I did not want to deal with it during recovery. I purchased my RX meds the day before surgery. All in all, I did well with recovery at home. By day 7-post op, I felt great. By two weeks, I was so ready to get back to work. Good luck!
