I have lost 12 lbs in two weeks! I have been walking a mile or two every evening also and I think that has helped alot. I can't wait to hear about everyones success after surgery!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL OCTOBER BABIES :crying: What a great gift to get in your birthday month! Renita -

Lynn, Funny you mentioned your insurance. I had Bl/BS of Illinois last year and they had so many different requirments and all before they would even consider approval so I pretty my gave up on the band altogether -well, I should say was trying to figure out how to self pay--we were on vacation in Flordia with the kids in July and I was sitting on the beach feeling like a WHALE--very depressed about everything when my cell phone rang it was a call from my weight loss nurse and she asked if my insurance was now Anthem and I said yes and she said well they will approve the band and all you will have to cover is the hospital part!!! I was so excited!! When the insurance changed over to Anthem I didn't think to check with the WL doctor to see if their coverage was different so I am just thrilled that somehow my nurse noticed this change and called me!! She is an angel on earth and I am now on my way...this site is WONDERFUL!! I agree..anything you can think of or concern you may have is somewhere on this site!! Take Care and best of luck  Renita -

Bev, I was on Medformin but it didn't agree with my stomach. I am now on 45mg once a day of the Actos and it seems to be fine..my last A1c was at 7. Yes, I am hoping that the band will help my diabietes and I have already stopped the carbs..I only eat salads and drink diet shakes for now to loose before surgery. Let me know how your appointment goes on the 22nd! Way to go on the walking by the way! I think that is one of the best pre-op things that we can do personally. I hope it makes my recovery quicker  take care-Renita -

Hello. My surgery date is set for October 8th. I am so excited and everything seems to be going so fast at this point. September 25th will be all of my pre-op tests at the hospital, my bloodwork labs, gallbladder untrasound and EKG etc... I purchased all of my vitimans, calcium and Protein shakes and have been on a diet plan to help with shrinking the liver..lost 9 lbs in a week I have started walking 1-2 miles a day..very motivaited for this life change!! Excited to see some October Bandsters!! Renita -
Thanks Cindy!! You walk everyday in this Mississippi humidity!! l I walked three days last week-1 mile each time and all I can say is WHERE'S FALL!! LOL That is great 11.2 lbs--I know you did feel good when you went back to work. It does boost you self confidence, I am sure! I am pre-banded but am already feeling that self confidence of being in control and being pro-active about my life changes. It is something that I had lost somewhere along the way. Renita

My insurance is paying all except for the 2,888 to the hospital. They sent me a letter saying my insurance only covers one after surgery and I will have to to pay for subsequent ones @ $125.00 I am hoping I will be one of these that only need a few fills along the way! What pre-op tests did you have to do for Avery? What vitimans do you take? I took my list to Sam's in Gulfport and was looking at the different ones. Is Citrical what you use for calcium? Where around here do u get the protein shakes? Sorry for all of the questions just trying to wrap my brain around everything!! lol Renita

Hey, Thanks! I do love everyone at that office, very nice and non-judgemental! lol I went today for a weigh in and blood pressure and they were so supportive. I have a surgery date for Oct.8,2008...nervous and excited. I have started walking a mile a day-very hard because I have never been one to excerise that much but the pay off has been great I have lost 9 lbs so far towards my pre-op diet

I just got approved by my insurance yesterday..I have to loose 36 lbs which sounds like a large amount for "liver shrinkage" to me..I think they set the number high but I will have to weigh weekley and once I have lost a good enough amount I will start that other pre surgery requirments..tests etc...How much do you weigh if you don't mind saying? I am 297--highest weight EVER  But, I am ready for a change and will do great with this new "tool" to help me. Renita

Hey..5.4 lbs is GREAT I think!! Yes, you will do good, your hearts in it. Just give yourself time, once you heal (from what I have read) you will be off and running with it...your body is probably going..what's going on here?!? lol proud of you!! You go girl

I think that if I lolose some weight then they will go ahead and do it..I have to go and weigh weekly. How was your weigh in day? I am excited for you! I have always stayed away from scales--never read right for me in the past! lol It will be new for me to start weighing more often. I love this website also, it has helped ease the worry of what's to come by reading what others have and are going through. Take Care..I am rooting for ya! Renita

Hey Cindy, Just an update...got a call from my WL clinic and they want me to loose 36 lbs post op! Dang..that seems like alot to me from what I have read on others having to loose before surgery...If I could just loose that much I wouldn't need the surgery.lol I am trying to stay positive but thinking about that number is a little frustrating.

Thanks so much Cindy! I appreciate your emails and we will have to stay in touch. I had my blood pressure taken today and it was great. So I will be starting some diet pills tomorrow to help with the pre-op weight loss. Good luck on your journey! I hope to be behind you in a few weeks:thumbup:

Cindy, yes, I have done lots of different diets and all only to gain it all back and more. When I met my husband in High School I was 16 and weighed 115 lbs-the smallest I had ever been in my life--but I was basically just not eating..I would have a pepsi and pack of snack crackers for lunch because we were too busy running the roads (we could leave school for lunch-lol) I really didn't look healthy that small for my build. When I married at 19 I was about 130 and that was pretty good for me. Then of course three years later we got pregnant with the twins...I do like to eat and am not blaming anything on any one situation...fried foods and casino buffetts, like you said it is the South, we enjoy food at every event/function that we do! I will know a date in a week or so the nurse said. They are going to put me on a diet pill to help loose the weight then I think she said I would have to be off of that pill for about a week prior to surgery so I am still a few weeks away...I do have diabetes now and was just diagnosed with that a few months ago. Hey, I think that broth part will be my hardest and giving up diet cokes! I have been reading different threads trying to wrap my brain around everything. I am proud of you for taking that step..I will be right behind you hopefully...so we can share as Mississippi folks. Did you have to do a pre op diet? I don't drink alot just to drink either-like you mentioned unless I am really really thirsty. I weigh 297 so I can't wait to start loosing!!

Cindy, I like Ocean Springs and that is where my Doctor is. I bet the place that you ate is Aunt Jenny's-- How are you dealing with the band so far? Is it hard to try and get all of the Protein and all that your body needs?

Hey Cindy thanks for responding so quick.. I actually looked into Mexico when I thought my insurance would not cover it. We changed insurance because of my husbands job and they cover all but 3,000 to the hospital. I am in Gautier (on the coast). How are you doing since your surgery and where do/will you go for fills, will a local doctor do them for you?
