Just had mine done on May 5. Port had flipped and worked it's way to the outside world. They changed the location about 4 " so it would be more protected by the ribs. In at 7am out at 11:30pm. Local is almost as good as being under; like they do for endoscopy. Came out when they were sewing me up and joined in conversation the doctor's were having. Gave me FIVE refills of the liquid painkiller but only used about 1/8 of the original bottle. Back to doing normal things in about 2 weeks. Hardest part was avoiding the area while sleeping. Good Luck.

Yeah, kinda slowed down my sex life a liitle :embarassed: Wouldn't let it deter you from getting banded, I was in the first group my doc did back in 04 and the port location was not optimal (new location under the rib is better). Only reason it got so bad is that I was waiting out the insurance kick-in. Just wanted to let teresa know that she shouldn't take a port infection lightly. My doc shrugged it off at first also.

Just got my port fixed last Friday (5/5/06). [Orig from 2/04 banding]. Port area never felt right and started oozing about 4 to 5 months ago on and off. Had to live with it like this for two months until I got insurance again. Doc removed old and put in new about two inches to right (under the rib). Entered amblatory at 9:11am and was home by 11:30am. Used drugs like you get when a colenoscopi (?) and local in the port area. Came to when they were sewing me up (not sure if I was supposed to or not) and joined the docs in their discussion of Patrick Kennedy's car accident. (A little surreal). Left band unfilled. Bandaged both areas and covered with that supertape (clear) that lets you shower. Had permission to drive the next day but didn't really feel like it. Today (Tues 5/9) ran around doing errands all day and was even able to get a little painting done (just not suppossed to do any heavy lifting). From what I can make out from the pic you posted yours is much more infected than mine ever was. I would definitely get it checked out. Good Luck. [ps can you ediit that orig post and delete or replace the supersized pic, makes the rest of the post hard to read].

Port replaced. Is this normal??

Wow, this board is great. [Joined today upon recommendation of a Smartband poster] Hope this thread is still monitored. Anyways I'm a newbie compared to the 01ers [banded on 2/5/04] and have been happy with the results. My problem is that my band has worked its way through the skin (can see about 1/2" of it). LOcation of band is about 2 -3 " above the navel. Questions? 1) Does port replacement require surgery? 2) Do you know what the port replacement cost? [i lost my ins since geting banded]. 3) Where is your port located? Thanks.
