  1. On a regular diet now at 6 weeks post op and up to this point avoided getting sick. Today that changed. I had leftover grilled steak and a bit of baked sweet potato, plain. I stopped when I felt the restriction. Waited 30 minutes to sip water and the pain. Uhhh! Immediately threw up. Thought great.. got rid of it. Sipped again.. pain. Threw up. That's been going on for the past 6 hrs. It's almost like my pouch's stoma was blocked and the water just kept backing up so I continued to try drinking, hoping to bring up the obstruction. Finally water is going down so have to play catch up. Don't want to dehydrate. So is it possible to block the stoma with steak or potato skin or food in general? Will the food eventually just pass or has anyone here ever had to have food fished out before? I did eat slowly, took small bites and thoroughly chewed. Lesson learned though... just because I can eat it doesn't mean I should. I'm swearing off heavy meats for a long while... cuz that really sucked and was a bit scary. 🤢

Puking my guts out today :(

IDK but I stopped eating eggs every morning since my last episode with them. I prefer to drink my breakfast. At least for now.
  3. That's honest. But the changes are necessary to get to a healthier place. Eventually you will be able to go back to bad eating habits and regain the lost weight if you so choose and are miserable being at a healthy BMI. But who does that???
  4. I'm a BIG milk lover and my dairy based protein shakes upset my stomach quite a few times the first couple weeks after surgery. I noticed though that I was able to eat other dairy products with no problem. Also, some do have trouble with air bubbles causing gas, etc. from blending their drinks. I continued drinking milk despite the random bouts of running to the bathroom. Thankfully mine wasn't lactose intolerance. Just a fussy tummy. It eventually got better and became a non-issue.
  5. Depending on what your comorbidities are, I would say the risk of having WLS is lower than not having it at all.
  6. I had an EKG at the cardiac doctor's office that appeared normal. But because I have a strong family history of heart disease (my brother died at 34 and my dad at 58) I was given additional testing. A Cat scan before and after the stress test to visually see my recovery time and an ultrasound which showed a possible irregularity. I had to have a heart catherization only to find that everything was fine. I was so very much relieved that I had no blockages which TBH worried me daily because of my weight and family history. I think the doc was even surprised and cleared me for WLS that very day, when it was done. Even the nurse commented on how clear my arteries looked. FTW I'm counting on my Gastric bypass to be a helpful preventative against future heart problems. Just one of the many reasons I had it done. Hopefully your checkup goes smooth for you OP and that you will only need that EKG

Puking my guts out today :(

Almost 3 months out and even though I think I know what's safe or doable for me at this stage, still surprises me. I can eat something one day just fine. Another, my stomach isn't having it. Sadly, I approach each meal now with a bit of trepidation. Like... is this going to go well? It definitely gives new meaning to conscious careful eating to avoid those damn foamies. My first episode, I drank because it felt like something was stuck and it was painful. With each sip I was hoping to dislodge whatever it was and bring it back up or push it through. Water wouldn't even go down. I kept telling myself, I'll feel better after I throw up. Eventually I did but it took hours. Another time I just laid down to let it pass but neither episode was pleasant. Scared me too but I have made peace with it to a point. If we could eat everything easily, we would probably never reach our goals. And from what I've read our tool's effects won't last forever. I carry around these nausea bags in my purse for such occasions. Because you just never know. Not very discreet but I feel better knowing I have them. Still Undecided.....

If you decide to put it off, don't wait too long. Otherwise, you may have to do all the pre-op testing a second time. You've already come this far... I personally wouldn't go into it unsure. A little bit of fear is natural. But I know if I don't go all in, I won't be successful. But then I'm an all or nothing personality.

    Nicotine testing

I was tested one week before surgery. It takes up to 3 weeks for nic to be completely out of your system. I weaned myself down to 0mg nicotine e-juice 2 months before surgery. Congrats on your approval and good luck!

    Sugar Free Popsicles

It's always been interesting to me how different everyone's pre and post op diets are depending on where you go for surgery. I've even heard that many places are still going by guidelines written 20+ years ago. I was allowed to eat during my 2 weeks up until day before surgery. 3 ounces of lean protein and 2 1/2 cups of non-starchy veggies = delicious stir fry. 2 protein drinks, and 1 serving of fruit daily. Felt no deprivation. I was confused too when I was told to drink 20 ounces of full sugar Gatorade the night before surgery and another one 2 hours before arriving at the hospital day of. Reasons given? You will be more comfortable before and after surgery. This will help you feel less thirsty, less hungry and less anxious. Helps your body handle the stress of surgery. Helps blood sugar control after surgery. Your bowels will return to normal function more quickly after surgery. May potentially lead to a shorter hospital stay by decreasing nausea and pain. One bottle has 34g of sugar. Go figure. Must be some of the newer research. But follow your nutritionist guidelines. If allowed I say go for it. I didn't start eating the SF pops till post op but I still love them. Especially the tropical flavors. Good luck tomorrow!!!!

    What Made You Smile Today?

  12. I have no qualms about using a bariatric card or a coupon (heaven forbid) in a restaurant. Do you know that the markup value of a meal is 300% or more? Then you are expected to tip at 20% on that overpriced meal? That's so the owner doesn't have to pay the waitress salary. They are making a killing on us so we can enjoy the ambiance and 2T of food. Believe me they are not losing any money on kid's meals or senior prices. And I could give a flip less who knows I had surgery. I was invisible to those strangers before. Now I guess they'll see me. 👀

    Food Before and After Photos

That looks a lot like the tortoise I met at the age of five, Was this at the Cleveland zoo?
  14. I got one. Haven't used it yet. But I'm not ruling it out. Especially if I see a tasty Senior meal somewhere that looks good and costs me less.

The line that stuck with you...

Dumb as hell unless you are dying of dehydration... or is it? xD "You don't need teeth to chew urine."

Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.

I really tested myself tonight. I order Chinese on Fridays. I usually order meat and veggie dishes like Broccoli Beef/no rice since surgery in April. Tonight, they got my order wrong, and I ended up with Kung Pao Chicken. It's deep fat fried and contains sugar. But I didn't want to deal with going back and well... I was curious. I decided to try it to see how my body reacts. I stopped before getting full and so far, no dumping. I guess I'm not part of the 30% who dump with bypass. Not sure if that's good or bad but I don't plan to continue testing it. I'm enjoying watching the numbers on the scale going down way much more.

    EXCESSIVE SALIVA/SLIME

Your profile shows you as pre-op. Have you had surgery? You mentioned many months??

    EXCESSIVE SALIVA/SLIME

It may be what you're drinking. The stomach produces excessive slime when it's irritated. Unless it's plain water, then that's a problem if you become dehydrated. I experience foamies off and on too. I just make a mental note not to consume the irritant for awhile and try to revisit it again later.

    Craving sushi

TBH the only thing that fazes me is eating raw meat. Even if it's from a 5-star restaurant. And if you're passing through MO, don't stop at this seafood stand. This happened yesterday. Man dies from bacterial infection after eating raw oysters | Food Safety News

A friend of mine brought me some various flavored roasted Chickpeas. They make a tasty high protein, high fiber snack when you want something crunchy.

    Any CrossFit peeps?

Thanks for the info and advice. I think I'm going to continue my daily walking till my 3-month post-op appointment with my doctor in July. For now, I really enjoy walking around the lake with my dog. Pretty soon it will be too hot unless I go early morning or late evening. At that point I will have a better idea of what exactly I'm going to do moving forward. 🏋️‍♀️

    5 weeks post op retching?

I was prescribed anti-nausea medication {Ondansetron 8mg) by my surgeon 1 week before my surgery in anticipation of my needing it. I used it a few times but usually after eating. Regardless, Nausea is expected. I would contact your doctor and let him know what's going on though, as to the frequency of it. 3-4xs a day seems a bit much. He can determine if you need to be seen or prescribe meds.

    Any CrossFit peeps?

Maybe now that you are down to 115 it will be easier for you. The only time I remember ever being able to climb anything vertically was the rope in grade school gym class. LOL I am kind of paranoid to work my core since I had a hiatal hernia. Doc has cleared me to lift but reminded me that although repaired, it's no guarantee I can't develop another one. I guess I will have to train myself to not lift max or push myself to muscle failure like I did in the past. I sure hope muscle memory is a real thing. If so, I'm one step ahead of the game. I'm guessing Crossfit is less weight/high rep sets for cardio endurance?
