Not silly. Food funerals are real. Before my surgery I had wings and ice cream. Now that surgery is over I’m not feeling hungry I don’t have cravings either. I can smell the bacon my wife has cooked and it has no appeal. There is such a connection with food, making plans with friends visiting family… all have something to do with food. Would t it be nice to have someone say hey let’s get together and skip rocks at the lake or something. Stay strong and you are aloud to mourn.

I haven’t found a great broth yet, but I like bullion cubes, seems to have a bit more flavor. I did t know fair life made a strawberry one, maybe check Amazon.

I’m home now! So far everything is perfectly average. Last night the nurse came in to give me a pill and I ended up chugging some water for the pill. Oops. That will be the last time I make that mistake😁 I didnt throw up but sure felt like I should. The pain is mostly tolerable. I found reaching for something high was uncomfortable and sitting down I’m having to take a new approach. I hope y’all are doing your best no matter what stage you are in!

Hello! Had my surgery last night and it went well! I was nervous as I got to the hospital but then they gave me vein champagne which was great! I fell asleep and then it was over! I’m getting my fluids in even had some jello! The pain is tolerable with Tylenol. The doctors used a robot to do the surgery and maybe that’s why the pain is tolerable. I believe in y’all!

Congrats! How are the first sips going?

My doc is the same, no pre op diet. We are the lucky few. My surgery is Friday!

My surgeon doesn’t require a pre op diet. When I asked him why he said that it didn’t shrink the liver that much, may not help the recovery but not enough studies to say definitely, and that it’s just torcher. To all who are required to do the pre op liquid diet, you got this! Just shows how dedicated you are, how strong you are and you are capable!! I believe in you!

My surgeon doesn’t require a pre op diet. So far I haven’t found any stats comparing long term weight loss between the two. If it’s strictly for the reduction of liver I don’t understand why all docs wouldn’t want that. I’m just two weeks away and not required to do the liquid diet, which is good because I have a music festival to go to next weekend and I don’t think beer/cocktails is part of the liquid diet no matter how clear the liquid is 🤪

It seems odd to me that there is not a pre surgery protocol across the board. Some people need a liquid diet weeks before and then there’s those that don’t have to do it. I wonder (and I’ll look into it) if there is a difference in the outcome.

I’m trying to plan for my down time and hospital stay
£€@h posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My day is coming! I’m looking for some good book recommendations, or podcasts. I’ll have about a week and a half off and figure I need something to occupy my time and it’s been awhile since I read so…. What did y’all pack in your hospital bags? What didn’t you pack that you wish you did? -

So I should bring a long phone charger?😁 jk. were y’all able to wear your Jammie’s from home or did you have to wear the hospital gown? Do the docs wake you to get fluids or go for a walk? Are most people on oxygen the entire hospital stay and if so should I bring a nasal spray? I Guess I’m getting nervous… -

So, people keep saying “trying to get fluids in” like is it really that hard? What makes it difficult? What does it feel like? I guess I have a hard time wrapping my head around it because I have never had a hard time eating and drinking. Just curious and trying to prep myself. -
Congratulations! Welcome baby!!!!

Hey! I have my surgery June 5. I understand the frustration you are dealing with cooking for the family, going grocery shopping etc. but I have a feeling this is the right decision for you. Something brought you to this point and maybe you just need a reminder of it. For me it’s my kids. I want to travel on an airplane with them, I want to chase them up the stairs with out hurting, I want to ride bikes and jump on a trampoline with them. When I start to have doubts or frustration I remind my self the kids are more important than Oreo cookies and brownies. Is your family able to create a menu, do the shopping for a bit while you get over the hump? I think you will be glad you did this. Hang in there you got it!!

Well done!! What other exercise are you doing? I look forward to the day I ride bikes with my son, or paddle board with him!

I’m going in June 5th! Trying different protein drinks and weighing my food to prepare. What are you doing to prepare?

Hi! I have met with the surgeon, had a psych eval, did some online courses and have set a date of June 5th for my surgery. People keep asking me if I’m excited about it and honestly I am not. I have never had surgery.I’m not excited because I have had so many failures with weight loss that I feel skeptical. I am anxious for the outcome, that’s for sure. I’m ready to teach my boys how to ride bikes and ski, I’m ready to travel with them on an airplane, I’m ready to jump on trampolines and climb trees. Those are the things I’m excited for, not the surgery. I’d love to read how y’all prepared for surgery. When did you start the bariatric diet? I was thinking after Passover I’d start weighing my food and eating the things that are recommended (almost two months to get in a habit of bariatric eating). how drastic of a change is your taste buds? What do you wish you knew before surgery that you’d like to share with me? I hope to build some relationships and a great support group here. Thanks for taking your time to read!

Thank y’all for responding! The way my doctor explained my palette changing seemed like a bigger deal than what it is (or maybe I got hung up on it because I like what I like🥴). Catwoman, has the procedure changed a lot in the past eight years? My doc is going to use a robot and make several small incisions which seems great for recovery! Tomo, what is RNY? Arabesque, thanks for the video recommendations! I really am excited to do kid things again! tha ks again for the responses, I’m sure I’ll have more questions!
