Any October Bandsters!??!?!
Losing 2 replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Insurances are all so very different; I was self-pay and 4 hrs from home - yet, my insurance paid for pain meds., percoset ($10. co-pay). So far, I've only taken one before my 4 hr ride home today. Really helped. I think I might take another before bed tonight. However, the pain is really tolerable and liquid tylenol works well. -
Had surgery yesterday -- help!

I agree - I was banded yesterday and am not feeling those type of symptoms. Everyone is different - but I sure wound't chance it. Hope you feel better very soon. -
Hello all, I am still hanging in here a day after surgery. Getting up walking each time I wake up from a nap. No appepitite yet - just sipping my Water, eating half-sf Jello cups, sip a little broth late this afternoon and had a popsicle. I was so looking forward to having another popsicle tonight... the rest of them melted in my little cooler. Nutritionist told me I could begin Protein drinks again tommorrow (have plenty of those left over). Also, the book I read on the lapband provides many good recipes for shakes - I plan to get going on those for variety. Not much gas yet, I'm sure it's coming - got the gasX strips ready! Not feeling any pain only a little discomfort when I get up. I'm wearing a band from hospital, which feels good. Decided against taking the percoset pain pills so far - took some liquid tylenol and took a nap earlier. Will take more at bed time. If the pain comes along during the 4 hour drive home tommorrow, I won't be shy about taking the pain pills. Happy Healing for those of you who have been banded and I'm counting the days with all of you who have upcoming dates and I wish each of you the very best.

Hello to my fellow October Odyssey - 2008's! Had my surgery 8:30a Tues.; Stayed one night in hospital - made it back to hotel around 1p today. Have been sleeping a lot - getting up to walk each time I wake up. I'd be lying if I said I've been in pain. Perhaps it will come later today or tomorrow while we are on the road. I have my liquid tylenol handy & hospital filled my prescription of percoset - don't feel I'll be needing this. I asked for pain meds every time they offered - to keep from ever feeling pain and it worked. Had a mild anesthesia sickness while in recovery. Received blood thinner injections (about 4). Haven't been hungry yet. Had a popsicle, light minute made juice and Water last night. Nasty hospital broth for Breakfast (couldn't do it), half Jello and black coffee with splenda so far today. Sips of water of course. It's really great to hear that everyone is doing well post-surgery & best of luck to those on pre-op liquid diets... It's soooo worth it!

Sweet Gothic & DeeH, glad to hear you are home and healing. Had my surgery 8:30 Tues. a.m.; One night in hospital - made it back to hotel around 1 p.m. today. Not sure I'll use though. I asked for pain meds every time they offered - to keep from ever feeling pain and it worked. Had a mild anesthesia sickness while in recovery. Goooood Luck Everyone!!! -
Hello, those who have traveled with your C-Pap; Have you needed a doctor's statement to get through security to take on the plane? Thanks for your answers.

Oh, I feel for each of you on your liquids! But I must say that you will survive - if I can go without... you'll make it. I felt as though it got easier as the days went on. Today I couldn't even have a protein drink - it was full liquids. Oh boy. We have a goal and we can do this. Good luck to you.

Hello All, so glad to read these post from those of you who banded last week and before. It's great to hear of your 'healing' stories and especially for your experience & tid-bits. I arrived in Detroit this afternoon and am counting the hours til I arrive at the hospital tomorrow morning for 8:30am 'procedure' :crying:. Ok, I thought I'd have so much to say, but I don't. Just reading and ready. Got my liquid tylenol, gas x strips, plenty to read and DH standing by patiently. I will have one overnight in hospital and have reserved my hotel for an extra night after that. We won't drive home until Thursday - thought I could use the extra day of rest. Glad to be off work for 2 weeks. I'm sitting here tonight just thinking - the date is here... can't believe it - but oh so very glad! I'll be thinking of everyone!! Best of Health to You!

OMG! Please tell me that I didn't just blow it! I just took a Colace 100mg. I am on clear liquids all day tommorrow & surgery is scheduled for 8:30am Tuesday morning. I've finished packing and we are set to drive out to Michigan in the morning. I'm sitting down re-reading my paperwork and its telling me no advil, and other stuff. Doesn't mention colace... but is this a deal breaker before surgery? Please tell me if I need to tell my surgeon I took these - or do you think I'll be okay 24 hrs away? What was I thinking?

I am talking 2 wks of vacation days, although I'm told you only need about a week. I have a lot of days to use before losing them at end of year, so I'm taking on this opportunity. I sit for most of the day and periodically have to walk people to different areas of the facility during the day (which I will certainly be glad to get that walking in after surgery). If I had physical duties, I would have taken 3-4 wks. Good Luck

I also wanted to add that I just completed reading a good book on the subject (there are MANY out there). The one I read was from Amazon. Yep, you should search within yourself to makesure it's what YOU REALLY want to do for yourself! For real. I started off at 220 / 5' 2" / Size 18/20 on the way 'again' to a size 22. As of today, I'm glad to have lost 9 lbs of water-weight while on the pre-op diet. You are so lucky to get insurance coverage - I didn't. So, I'm taking all I have to pay for it....yep, being healthier is just that serious for me. Having paid many, many $$$ over the last few years for every diet pill / organized diet there is - I don't see why I wouldn't pay for this. I have sleep apnea and am not planning to sit around to await other co-morbidites that are bound to show up shortly. No matter what you decide, I wish you the very best of health to go with it! -
Ideas on how to keep my surgery private from coworkers?
Losing 2 replied to adamsmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite answer is quoted above - this will work best for me, I think. Earlier this month, I'd contemplated using the hernia or gallbladder one and now see the importance of thinking twice about the gallbladder story. I really needed this thread as I begin my 2 wk vaction tommorrow & will be banded this Tuesday. I am so struggling with this for a couple of reasons: My DH & I work together in a huge facility; also, over a year ago a person mentioned wls to my boss and she went on and on about how dangerous it is, etc. I opened my mouth back then and I said I'd been wanting it for years and she gave more reasons it was supposedly - I blanked them all out. However, now that I know how she feels about it - I don't want her to know. The thing is, most folks where we work know of all of my many diets because I always lose very good on all of them. Folks are always asking how I did so well whenever I was on WW, SBD, JC, etc. So I could easily say that I'm actually sticking to an excellent diet plan this time and am just much more successful since I'm now a pro. So far, I've told one of my co-workers all about what I'm doing and why I haven't told anyone. I have mentioned it to two others that I'm going to 'try' to have it and sort of wish I didn't. But, I'm not so private when I like something and just I'm going through all of this and might eventually just tell it all. Anyway, I firmly believe that HR or supervisors NEVER need the exact details - a doctors statement saying you've had a procedure should absolutely suffice. Yes, it's against policy for HR/supervisors to tell your personal info - but, I work at a place where nothing is sacred... someone will tell one and so on and so on. So, if you don't want it known, stick with something very simple to keep up with, such as the one above. I really like this thread. Good Luck -
My surgeon called this morning to go over a few items. He talked with me regarding weight loss goals: 4 wks. - he expects a loss of 16 lbs 1 1b per wk 2 lbs per wk with exercise 50 lbs off this year 70 lbs off within 2 years That would be nice, however, I honestly right now would be esctatic if I loss up to 25-30 pounds by the end of December and I'm thinking about a loss of 50 sometimes next year. So, we will see.

Wow that is truly AWESOME! I was a bit worried to, because I've lost 10 lbs since Monday. However, my surgeon called me this morning and I told him I'd lost that much so quick - his reply was "good, that makes things easier for me." So, keep up the good work!!
