Illinoishusker... CONGRATS!!! -
Congrats on getting a date! Your story is soooo similar to mine - just don't think I can do another nutrisystem, jenny craig, ww, southbeach - without first having this surgery completed... then, I know I have to make serious committments for life. And like you, I'm so ready!

Losing 2 replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks much for that book info & for the web address as well - I'll look into it for sure. The book my surgeon has suggested is 'Lapband Solutions' another poster on this site suggested 'Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know' by Robert W. Sewell. Both can be ordered at Amazon.com -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
Losing 2 replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that I am so nervous! I tossed and turned all night last night - thinking, should I be spending this sort of money right now? Are we going to struggle while I pay for this? Should I wait until next year? No, I don't know, but NO! I've been researching this for years and for 3 yrs continuously - I've been serious. It's my time and I'm just nervous. Since I scheduled the date... I can barely think of anything else! I too have read every inch of the info Dr. K's office has sent. I am getting ready to order one of the lapband books. I believe we have all made the very best choice - having done many, many other diets. I'm the queen of diets at my office. Can't wait to get banded! -
Thank you so very much!!!

Again, thanks for all of this info. I have scheduled my surgery for 10/30 with Dr. K in Colorado for $9900. I'm a little nervous about needing to travel back so far for fills and worried that facilities here in Chicago will turn me down for these - or will charge way too much! I got a detailed message today from Greate Lakes Weight Center in Michigan - who charges $10700 with everything included, plus overnight stay. Says they are able to schedule me withing two weeks. But, they want $500 to hold a surgery date. I'm skeptical of this and need to do some BBB research, etc. If I was convinced of getting local fills at a reasonable price - I wouldn't consider them as much - but, they closer to home. Also, they've changed their name from something else and I don't understand why.

I too don't really want to tell too many folks. However, if I am blessed enough to lose as much as folks I'm reading about here have lost, the cat will certainly be out of the bag. I work in a huge place (DH works there as well). I've lost and gained the same 40 to 45 lbs for past 6 yrs., so they'll all be buzzing... I already know it. Plus, I talk a lot when I'm excited about something... let me start dropping and I'll I won't be able to hold it. My manager is absolutely against anything like this - too bad. So, of course DH knows, he's going with me; My sisters and brothers all know I want it - but, I don't believe they think I'll actually follow-through. I wish I could just shut up, but I'm so excited. Besides, if it works for me - I'd really like to share! We will see!

Question re: Great Lakes Weight Loss Center
Losing 2 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello: Does anyone have knowledge of the Great Lakes Weight Loss Center? I've found their website and contacted them - since it's closer and we have a bunch of relatives over there. It's located in Harper Professional Bldg. in Detroit & Rochester Hills Bldg in Rochester Hills, MI The price is $10700. I've scheduled for Dr. K in October... this place says I could be scheduled within 2-3 wks from now. Please let me know if you are able to provide any feedback. I'll keep checking to see if I can find it here. Thanks in advance, will post this in another forum as well. -

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Losing 2 replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello, I am very excited that I picked up the phone and made a surgery appt. with Dr. Kirschenbaum for 10/30. Now, I need to convince my hubby that we need to fly out to Denver for this - I got him to agree with surgery, not telling him the potential location!:rolleyes2: I've been on the phone trying to find a local and inexpensive fill doctor in Chicago - especially I'm being financed for surgery... I don't need to extra expense of trying to pay $500 for fills! Anyway, I'm excited and nervous all in one. I am so appreciative of all of the info I have received on this forum. -
Thanks everyone for chiming in with this info. I actually called Dr. K's office in Colorado today - sweet deal for sure & Natalie is so very nice. However, they don't accept Care Credit. I am trying to find a place closer at a low rate (or, as close to that as possible). I am going to call more places tomorrow. Again, thanks and I appreciate all responses received.

Hello, I have Aetna Open Access HMO (Federal Employee); Am searching unsuccessfully thus far, to find out which 2008 health insurance plan in Illinois will accept lapband without six months medically supervised diet / 5 yr weight hx. I have sleep apnea. Does anyone have any advise? Is it really too much to expect to find out ahead of time which Federal Employees Health Insurance companies will cover WLS... otherwise, I'm seriously thinking of trying to afford self-pay. Will also need to convince DH - really! Thanks
