Drinking before/after eating
futureshrink replied to RainbowBrite57's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can’t drink for at least 30 minutes and if I try, I just throw up. Tonight I ate some pork roast too fast and I’m paying for it. My fist instinct is to drink but I know I will just throw it all up. So now I have to wait.... -
10/26 Surgery! Anyone interested in a surgery buddy/support group?
futureshrink replied to BypaSSSed's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Breakfast was yogurt and a clear protein drink. Snack was a protein drink. Lunch was two egg whites with Parmesan cheese. Snack was a cheese stick. I was craving something savory for dinner and tried a few teaspoons of mashed potatoes which just came back up. Now I just feel like hell. I still have to take my night meds so I hope they stay down. The lap band was so different. When I couldn’t tolerate a food I just threw it up immediately. The bypass is so different. It’s like it keeps trying and trying to go down for an hour and then finally it comes back up. I’m learning, eat slowly, chew everything. How did you do today? -

Mirilax works for me. I take it about once or twice a week. Also there are stool softeners that come in pill form. -

Doing okay. I had one mishap with not chewing peaches well enough. It was awful, hours of throwing up and pain. They aren’t kidding when they say chew well. I am on purée and soft foods but being pretty careful. I hope I never see jello again. 🤢 -
I’m so sorry to hear that. Divorce for any reason is painful. I hope you have good support and surround yourself with people who love you. Sending you healing thoughts. 🥰

The changes we don't talk about

I share your sentiments. I am extremely tall for a woman so adding big and tall has always reminded me that I take up space in the world. I tend to be fairly shy in person because I am always trying to make myself smaller. I had a lap band 12 years ago and I struggled with body image when i lost a lot of weight. I never threw out my fat clothes and continued to buy clothes that were way too big. my band failed twice before I switched over to the bypass. I have kept it very private but I’m not looking forward to the gushing that will happen by others when they see my progress. I am not in the same place as everyone else with my emotional progress. -
I am on soft foods so I was able to eat 2 ounces of turkey mixed with gravy, a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and a tablespoon of cottage cheese. I didn’t have any issues. Yay!

I take 20mg of famotadine at bed time and omeprazole in the am.

10/26 Surgery! Anyone interested in a surgery buddy/support group?
futureshrink replied to BypaSSSed's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh the irony! After the first few days I was feeling very little pain. I kept telling people it was really an easy surgery given my lack of pain and I could probably go back to work. And then all the swelling went down. Holy moly I absolutely feel like my insides have been rearranged! I have to be so careful when I move certain ways or I’m way over the threshold. Sleep is the worst. I have a fancy sleep number bed that tracks my sleep and it’s been under 70 for the past two weeks! I keep a pillow on my belly when I’m sitting because my cats don’t get it. I take it all back...it was not an easy surgery...ugh. -

2 weeks post op...soft foods start today! Hooray! Down 20 but not dropping as much as I thought I would. I track everything so I’m a bit frustrated. -
My Health has to come first! No more excuses! I have held it off for ten years!

I challenged my parents to come up with some ideas that I can have...my dad was disappointed that I can’t have pumpkin pie because it’s a soft food. We had a long conversation about sugar content. But I am going to be so happy to see my parents that food will be a second. 😁 -

When I had to give up coffee for the pre op diet I was a f-Ing ray of sunshine for days. Irritability is pretty common through the liquid diet phase. Luckily I live alone and didn’t have to deal with food smells, just tv commercials. Your doctors will give you meds for the gas and bloating which will help. I didn’t pass gas for a few days. Even if you pass gas on the plane, you aren’t going to see any of those people again. You’ll be ok. sending positive thoughts 🥰 -

I had gastric band in December 12 years ago, and a revision surgery one year later. I just had my bypass last week just in time for holidays. Will I miss turkey this year? Probably.but I will be with my family for the first time in a year. Also ironically I’ve always had a sweet tooth, but since my surgery, I can barely tolerate sweet tasting anything. Even if it is sugar free. You’ll do well. my way of expressing myself was to do a sketchbook for the Brooklyn art library sketchbook project. That’s been a great outlet for me. best of luck and positive thoughts to you! 🥰 -

I drank muscle milk lite pre made. They made it easy to get the right amount of protein in and they are tolerable. -

Have you tried protein water? I find them way easier. Premier protein makes one called clear. There is also proteinh20. -

Pain sucked the first two days and then it was minimal. I’m a week out, no pain meds. You’ll do great! -

The first 3 days kinda suck, but after that you sort of get your groove. Once my body went into ketosis I had to pee every hour, day and night. It’s a tough diet but stick with it. Variety is a big thing...I learned that I hate bone broth, I can tolerate chicken broth, too much sugar free jello is a laxative, and proteinh20 is pretty good. Everything has a sweet taste so I craved savory which is tough to find. Someone said there is a chicken flavored protein powder. Good luck. You’ve got this. Check in when you start feeling like you want to bang your head. We’re here. 😊 -

After surgery will be a breeze. Probably uncomfortable for a day or two and then you will adapt to your new stomach. Plus you’ll get more choices for liquids after surgery. The two weeks of protein drinks and chicken broth was the worst! -

Oh I am so with you on that one. I take narcotics for hip arthritis because I’m a lifer on anticoagulants and my options are super limited. I started detoxing in the hospital because they didn’t take into consideration that it had been 14 hours since I’d had any. -

We are all here for our own reasons and are on our own journeys. I have been overweight my entire life. I have been incredibly active until my hips failed. I don’t sit at home and eat bonbons I eat a very healthy diet. But I was never able to lose weight significantly without surgery. And that’s OK. Don’t be so hard on yourself. We’ve all had our struggles we’ve had our failures and we’ve had our successes. We’re here to support each other and we get it.🥰
