can your body reject the band?
lap band lady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been banded for 9 months. 2 months into it i had to have a port revision...since then i have had nothing but problems. Fills...too full...take fluid out...not full enough...fill....throwing up constantly...fluid out. Now I have no fluid in my band..i still can't eat without getting sick feeling, and i have acid reflux. I have abdominal pain, chest pain, and back pain. Am weak feeling, and tired. No one seems to find anything wrong with me. Had an ultrasound to check out the organs and all checked out fine. Go to my regular Dr. tomorrow and going to ask for tests to make sure the chest pain isnt heart related...she doesn't seem to think it is...but i want to know. Sooooo....do you think my body could be rejecting the band?? -

problem after fill...any ideas
lap band lady posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been having an ongoing problem since I had a port revision in October. They did a fill and it was so tight I couldn't eat, or drink anything with out throwing it up. I also had lots of reflux. Lost lots of weight but was feeling so weak and sick. Had them take out 3cc's and gained 9 lbs in 1 month. Had them put back in 2cc's and gained 3 more pounds in a month. Had them put back in .5cc's and started throwing up again...took out .2cc's and am no better. My surgeon gave me a lecture about having fluid put in and removed and saying it isn't good and could stretch out my pouch. So I am worried about what to do. I am once again having refux, and not able to eat much of anything. The thing that is so confusing is that I have less fluid in my band than before the revision and was fine, now I can't seem to find a spot that has good restriction. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them?? Anyone have any ideas??? -

I've had a few minor problems with my band, but do not regret having the surgery at all! -

thanks everyone!! I appreciate the input..will post again after the dr. appointment and tell you all how its going! -
I was banded 8-1-08, had a port revision done on 10-17-08. After my last fill I was unable to eat anything without throwing it right back up, went to have 1/2cc removed...all was fine, but now (1 month after 1/2cc removal) I am having heartburn and reflux quite often. I'm having a hard time eating without ending up with heartburn and wake up at night with reflux burning my throat. Has anyone had a problem like this??? Any ideas of what to do??? I do plan on seeing my surgeon, but until then, I could use some help!!!! Thanks!

I went to get a fill today, and after much poking and prodding with the needles...yes needles..they tried a second one, bent it, and tried again. I was sent to get an xray (luckily right in the same building) and found that my port is not positioned right any more. If I had to explain what the xray looked like I would say it looked like a wilted flower...drooped over. They said it could be because I lost weight quickly. Waiting to hear about surgery to either replace it or place it in the proper position again. I'm interested in hearing about anyone elses experience with this type of problem. Not looking forward to having another surgery however minor it may be.

Hi, Sorry I haven't answered you, I just found your message. My surgery was done by Dr. Erlich. It was done on 8-1-08.

Sound to me they figure you're going to want it bad enough to pay for it, rather than going to another surgeon. Doesn't sound very honest on his part.

I spoke with the PA today about this topic when I went for a fill. She also has had the surgery, and said the same happened with her. But didn't give me a reason for it happening. But I am the same way...some days I can eat a lot, and then some days I can barely eat.

has anyone had a problem with a stitch coming out through a healed incision? I had my incisions closed with glue, and had a stitch poke through yesterday. Wondering if this is a common problem after surgery.

I think its a great idea to have somone in mind to take care of your children if you should pass. My sister and brother in law have asked me to be guardian of their son if anything was to happen to them. Now granted they both are still alive, but what if they got into a car accident and both died? It would put your mind at ease, not trying to be insensitive but remember when its your time, its your time, if its surgery or getting hit by a bus, so in my opinion being prepared is a great idea.

filled & then unfilled - - - is this normal????

I've only had one fill 3cc and it went pretty good. I think everyone is different as well as doctors, they all seem to, have their own ways about doing things. -
Think im ready, little worried.

Good Luck Mutt, I decided in April I wanted surgery, had it done Aug 1st. I am happy with my surgery, recovery, and weight loss so far.(25lbs) Think positive...thoughts are things. I truly believe that you can affect the outcome by keeping a positive thought process. If you think you will fail...you just might. If you put your energy into achieving your goals, failure won't be an option. Once again, good luck, and remember thoughts are things. -
Isopure protien drink helped me a lot. I haven't had problems with hunger, so far my problem has been the lack of hunger, and getting enough protien. It seems to satisfy me.

Thanks! I appreciate the support.
