Is it time to try Milk of Magnesia? (Time for some more TMI!)
*susan* replied to katikati's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Milk of Magnesia was my savior during the first two months after my surgery. I wasn't able to go at all, and when I did, my stools were so hard it would literally take an hour to go, and it would tear me up, I would actually be bleeding. Someone recommend MOM to me and it was wonderful. I would take a does of it at dinner time and would feel so much better. My surgeon also concurred with my taking it. Sent from my iPad using VST -

What am i doing wrong?
*susan* replied to buffygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, I don't think you are getting enough calories, with the amount of exercising you are doing, you are not providing your body enough fuel to function properly. Our bodies need a certain amount of fuel each day just to breath, pump our blood, etc. Your body may feel like it is being starved, your metabolism is slowing down to preserve fat. I 100% am buying into the TTDE philosophy. My fiancé, who is a nutritionist and personal trainer, has been preaching this to me for two years. I was losing and gaining the same three pounds for a year. I finally decided to listen to him and figured out my BMR and then what I needed to eat just to maintain my weight. Then I figured out 15% less and came up with I should be eating 1,645 calories a day to keep my metabolism healthy and lose weight. At first, I went up a few pounds, because it took my body time to realize I wasn't going to deprive it of food anymore and for my metabolism to start functioning the way it should again. After four weeks, I am now losing consistently every week, eating more and feel like I have more energy than I have had in the four years since getting my sleeve. It feels so good not to feel deprived or like I am starving. The most important thing is, 98% of the time, I do make healthy choices. My 1,645 calories a day does not consist of crap food, I eat a lot of Protein rich foods and healthy vegetables. But, I don't deprive myself either. If I go out with friends, I eat many of the same foods they do, and still continue to lose. Check out http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ to see what your BMR and suggested daily caloric intake is just for your body to function. I am loving eating more to weigh less, the science if it just makes sense to me, that, and how much better I feel at 1,645 calories a day than what I did at 800. Sent from my iPad using VST -
Did you get your sleeve to deprive yourself, or to be able to live your life like a "normal" person? From what I read, you made some great choices. You were able to enjoy a social situation with your friends, you made better choices than you did pre-sleeve and you really didn't even eat that much. You are living! That is okay, it is okay to enjoy life. It is okay to enjoy the occasional splurge, go out with friends, have a few drinks, etc. as long as most of the time you make healthier choices. You did nothing wrong, there is nothing to feel guilty about. Sent from my iPad using VST

I will be honest, and I am sure I will be slammed for this, but I honestly don't buy into the whole "Carbonation will stretch your sleeve" theory. Maybe in the old days, but now, when they do the sleeve, they remove the stretchy part of your stomach. I just don't believe carbonation is going to stretch my stomach. Sorry. I enjoy diet coke and I enjoy the occasional beer. My stomach has not showed any signs of stretching, nor has it had an adverse reaction on my weight loss. Sent from my iPad using VST

Just remember, that while cost is important when you are self-pay, don't sacrifice quality, skill and expertise for price. Your body and your life deserve the most qualified surgeons with the best facilities. Sent from my iPad using VST

Deciding on taking a trip to mex
*susan* replied to taide's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
If you are unable to be approved or able to afford surgery in the states, then Mexico is absolutely a safe and viable alternative. I never felt uncomfortable or worried for my safety when I was there, and my surgeon was top notch. What is important is that you research your surgeon and make an informed choice. In term of which Medical Tourism company you choose, I would make sure to choose one that offers you excellent support and follow-up after the surgery as well as before. That is important, as you don't have the same kind of support you would if you went with a US surgeon. Sent from my iPad using VST -

*susan* replied to belle2304's topic in Food and Nutrition
I love my Pasta, my fiancé is Italian and a cook, so it is a staple for us. But, he is also a nutritionist, so it is always whole wheat pasta for us, served with something super healthy. Sent from my iPad using VST -
