I had my surgery at 7:30 a.m. and went home the next day at 10:00 a.m. I believe my surgeon keeps everyone overnight. I personally am all for that. I was wiped out, hurting and all I wanted to do was sleep. Although, they did have me up and walking within 30 minutes of waking up from surgery. I was glad I was kept overnight, because I had problems with my blood pressure during the night. Had I been at home, it would not have been caught and managed, and who knows what might have happened.

Oh my gosh, you can eat burgers, with the bun? I tried eating half a tuna sandwich the other day, oh no, I so cannot eat bread. I was in so much pain, I thought I was going to die. Then I sat there and slimed stuff up for 30 minutes, ewwww. I don't think you hurt your band. I was eating mushies at a little over a week out and am on solids now. He told me as long as I don't eat something that disagrees with me and causes me to vomit, my band will be fine. He said the type of stitches he used are very strong and would not rip or come loose or whatever by eating food.

Kayla, I am so glad to hear that things are going well for you. I am glad you were able to quit your second job and spend more time with your family, that is so important. We had to do a lot of number crunching and cutting back recently too, as my entire department was laid off the week before my surgery. I thought for sure that would end my surgery plans, as I was self-pay, but my hubby said this was too important and I went ahead with it. It sounds like you are doing great on your pre-op diet. Are you on all liquids, or what type of diet are you on? Best of luck to you.
-
No veggies? No fruits? That just seems insane to me. I believe in a well-rounded diet and feel that fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet. I think nutritionists would agree with that as well. Additionally, I love milk and milk is very healthy. It promotes strong bones and aids with weight loss. As far as appetite suppressants, forget it. Those things make me crazy. I have a band, that is my suppressant.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

I am so happy for you, congratulations. I know how exciting it is when you finally get your date and know it is really going to happen. Best of luck to you.

My physician has us do a strictly liquid diet from Physician's Weight Loss for 3 weeks prior to surgery. It was tough, but so worth it to get my band without complications. He said my liver looked great and I was a textbook patient.

Thank you so much for sharing your photos with us! You look beautiful and should be proud of what you have accomplished. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration.

Like most of the others, I needed a full week. I had no energy and my port area was extremely tender.

I am curious to see the replies you get on this as well. My daughter, who is tiny, really wants me to order one for her. I saw the ad on tv and thought it looked like something I could do too. My only concern is, will it support my weight? It doesn't look to sturdy. Does your packaging list how much weight it will support?

Congrats on your nearing date, I hope all goes well for you. I'm sorry, I just have to say, I have a beautiful chocolate lab, long-haired doxy, and a german shepherd and they rule!!! LOL, I love my dogs.

Wow, your scars all are looking great. Unfortunately, I tend to keloid, and my scars from the lapband surgery are no different. Everyone one of them is keloiding into big, swollen, ugly red bulges. Ugh. :cry

I was self pay. My surgeon did a physical on me, I had to have a psych. eval., meet with a nutritionist, have a sleep apnea test, ekg, chest x-ray and bloodwork prior to my surgery. Additionally, I was placed on a liquid diet (Physician's Weight Loss) for 2 1/2 weeks prior to my surgery. I think the pre-tests are important to make sure you are in good health and reduce any surgery related risks. JMO.

I did not go for exactly 2 weeks after I had my surgery. I thought I was going to die because the final three days I was having major cramps. I talked to my doctor and he said take one tablespoon of mineral oil 3 times a day and that would get me going. I gotta tell you, I tried, but I couldn't get it down. I checked the boards here and went with good ol' Milk of Magnesia. I took one dose before going to bed on Wednesday night and on Thursday morning things were moving and have been going great ever since. I was so excited, I called my husband at work, my parents and my best friend just to tell them I went!!

Since getting my band, I have found that I cannot drink anything that is real cold or has ice. I have to wait for my drinks to get room temperature. If I don't, I get major pain from it. It does seem weird though that you can get solids down and not liquids.
-
Mine is just below my right breast. I was aware of it at first, but it really doesn't seem to bother me now.
-
That made me laugh, thanks. I didn't have a dream that I had an alternate personality, but it is funny how obsessed we become with the band once we make the decision to have it. I did have dreams just about every night of being banded, having PB's, everything and wake up so disappointed when I realized I didn't have it yet. Now I do, and I experienced my first official "golf ball" the other day and the first thing I did when it hit was tell my husband to get me to the emergency room and get that thing out of me! Of course, I didn't, but it hurt so bad that at that moment, that was what I believed I wanted. Thank goodness my hubby didn't listen to me.
-
Alright Dody, that is fantastic news! Congrats on getting your date. :biggrin1:
-
That is awesome news, congrats!!!

Ok, so now I am officially confused then. I thought the reason we aren't allowed to drink soda is because it makes us burp and burping is bad. I have been burping like crazy since being banded, but have not touched diet coke. And, I really miss my diet coke. Does anyone still drink soda after being banded?
-
Hi Kate, I am sorry to hear about the reaction and it's discomfort. I hope it gets better. I just wanted to welcome you to bandland.
-
Oh Donna, I am so sorry your nice (and probably romantic) meal was interrupted and ruined like that. I did chuckle at the chicken dance visual too though. I am with Yoda and hope to remain a PB Virgin too.
-
:gluck: Let us know how everything goes.

Tidge, like the others said, it does get better. I had my surgery a little over a week ago, and to be honest, was feeling pretty lousy until yesterday. My doctor let me have some scrambled eggs and it was so wonderful and made me feel so much better. I had been having trouble sleeping at night due to port pain as well, so I just started taking the pain medicine the doctor prescribed for me at bedtime and that helped. Last night was the first night I slept really well and was finally able to sleep on my side instead of my back. Everyone heals and recovers differently, but you will be glad you did this. After talking to several people, it sounds like we all go through a real bad day. Mine was Thursday, I felt so sorry for myself and had a major pity party that day. But, 3 days later and I am now feeling pretty good.
