  1. If my surgeons office would do that, then our scales would agree!
  2. Wow, it is amazing to me the differing opinions, but, that is what makes the world interesting. To me, sex is so much more. It truly is making love. I have had sex without loving someone before, and, yeah, it felt good. But, it just didn't have the same meaning as making love to someone I have a deep commitment to and deep, loving feelings for. After that incident, I chose not to have just have "sex" for the sake of having sex anymore. To me, it is a deep connection and expression of love between two people who are committed to one another. When there is that devotion, it is truly a mind-blowing experience every time.

Hi there and welcome to LBT! I'm glad you found us. Don't be afraid to ask us questions, we are all here to support one another.
  4. Thanks for the link, Julie. I am going to check it out now. I hope the power walk helped relieve some of your stress. I am surprised at how exercising relieves stress.
  5. I know my surgeon made it very clear to me before getting the band that it is a wonderful tool. But, it is just that, a tool. To see real results, I would have to make healthier choices and get up and get moving. I have no doubt that even with my band, if I continued to eat chips and dip every night and all the other junk all the time that made me fat, I would not be losing. Do I still eat those things, heck yeah I do. But, not every day like I used to. When I do eat those things, it is a special treat. And, when I crave them, I eat them. I don't feel like I am on a diet because I am not deprived of anything (except bread, I miss bread) and therefore, I am succeeding. However, I have made a point of making healthier choices. We still eat at KFC sometimes too . But instead of the greasy, extra crispy chicken, I now choose their grilled chicken. By doing so, I am making a healthier choice. I choose not to do WW or any other diet because I do not want to have to spend the rest of my life counting points, calories, carbs, or anything else. But, lets be smart, we do need to make healthier choices for our band, heart, body and general health. Otherwise, what is the point of getting the band?

    Emotional Wreck !!!!!

Hi Mindy, I am sorry about the struggles you are having. Question, when you have talked to your parents (and husband) about the surgery, have you provided them with as much information as possible? Many people have heard so much about the negative effects of gastric bypass, that they often confuse the band with it. Try getting all of them to attend a seminar with you, let them talk to your surgeon, give them inamed's website so they too can research and learn all there is to learn about the band. Knowledge is a powerful tool. Give them that knowledge and then they might be less apprehensive and more willing to support you. Of course, you may have already done that, but if not, just a suggestion.

To Band ... or not to Band.

The band is still a relatively new procedure in the US, so there are not a lot of long-term statistics available yet. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. Have you attended a seminar yet? Personally, I love my band. I knew I had to do something. I was borderline diabetic and there is a history of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc. in my family. I determined the risks of not having the surgery far outweighed any risks of having it. The surgery itself was a breeze. And, the wonderful thing about the band is, it is completely reversible. However, I could not imagine ever wanting to have mine taken out. Have you checked out Inamed's site? They have a lot of good information there as well, including some statistics. http://www.lapband.com/lapband/portal.do

Hi Jackye, I also did not have my surgery with him, but I wanted to welcome you to LBT and congratulate you on your decision. Have you tried posting your question on the following thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11 It is the doctors and hospitals thread. In fact, I believe there are many posts out there about him. Check it out.

    In tears all weekend

Some people due tend to get very nervous before the surgery. I am sure that at this point, you have exhausted most every other means of trying to lose the weight. I am sure you have fully researched the band and all it can do for you, as well as the alternatives. Be comfortable with your decision. Knowing that this was not something you just decided to do overnight should help. Weddings of close family members are always an emotion filled time anyways and probably contributed a bit (along with the drinking) to the added emotions and crying that you are currently experiencing. It is normal to have some nervousness and second-guessing before any type of surgery, especially one that is more or less "elective". However, again, take comfort in the knowledge that you have done your research and made the best possible decision for you, your body and your life. Once you wake up and realize that the surgery went fine and you are now a "bandster" you will be so excited about starting your new life and wonder why you were so nervous those last few days prior to the surgery. Good luck, I am sure you will do fine.

    Sleep study?

I am not a nurse or anything, but I believe it is because they need to know if you are at risk to stop breathing during surgery.

    Diet Pills and the Band

Penni, have you had any bad side effects from the Meridia? Just wondering, because my primary put me on it back in January when I told her I was interested in the band because she doesn't believe in WLS. I was on it for about 6 or 7 weeks and was so miserable. I was lightheaded and nauseous, shaky, etc. all the time. I did lose weight, because it made me so nauseous I vomited constantly. She kept telling me to give it time and get used to it. I finally said the heck with that and took myself off of it. I felt better within two days.
  20. I hear ya, bluehill! Nothing like lounging around feeling like a princess while we watch the guys work hard, lol.

Susan, by responding here, I am not ignoring your post or discounting your feelings. I just believe that Morsaille did a wonderful job of addressing your concerns and I could not have possibly addressed it any better than she did. Now, at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, will someone please explain the Sharon Stone, Demi Moore cartoon to me. I have looked at it numerous times since yesterday and I still don't get it! :puke:

Good by to my Scruffy little dog

I am so sorry for your loss. Our pets are our dearest friends. No matter how bad the day, how unloved we are feeling or anything else, they are always there giving us their unconditional love and devotion. They fill such a void, and are almost like our children. My thoughts are with you.

    Hello everyone

Hi Cory, I am glad your surgery went well and you are up and walking. The walking is so good for you. You will probably find that the port area is where you will be the sorest for awhile. They sew it into muscle, so it is pretty sore for a few days. I am sorry your wife and daughter came down with strep. I hope they get to feeling better soon.
