April 2006 Bandits November Challenge

Happy Hump Day Everyone! Roberta, welcome back from the cruise! That is fantastic that you went on a cruise and still managed to lose weight. I don't think I would be able to do that. Betty, sorry I missed wishing you a happy birthday, I hope it was wonderful. It sounds like you had a nice day. And, I am so glad that your son is improving and doing so much better. Boo, sorry about the bronchitis. It is definitely that wonderful time of year. I hope you get to feeling better. 11/1: No exercise. 50 oz. I don't know how to make this a poll so...
*susan* replied to DerickM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also have no lapband associated pain. -
Are these people thin or obese? Do they have a clue what it is to be overweight and have tried everything without success? Sure, it is easy if you only have to lose 10 or 20 pounds, and they think it is just a matter of willpower. Personally, that is why I chose not to tell anyone about my band when I was going through the pre-process. I did not care to hear any of the negative comments about how I was "taking the easy way out", etc. I had one person mention to me about having a foreign object in my body, she has her tongue, ears, eyebrows, lip, nose and belly button pierced. Aren't those foreign objects? Anyways, the only person who really counts in this is you. You know what you have tried before. You know if you have done everything you feel you possibly can and cannot. If the time is right and you are ready for the lapband, that is your choice, your decision and no one else's. I would just leave them out of the loop from here on out if it were me, and if they ask, I would tell them it is a personal choice and I would really prefer not to discuss it with them anymore.

To fill or not to fill....
*susan* replied to sunsreturn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The person who has never had a fill will be few and far between. The band was not designed to work without having a fill. If I could have done this without ever being filled, then I would be pretty angry at myself for having wasted $16,500.00. I just had my third fill and have consistently lost the recommended 1-2 pounds per week since my first fill. -

April 2006 Bandits November Challenge

Boo, way to go! I am exhausted just thinking about you running that. Julie, I will go check out the thread. Right now, I am whooped. We spent all day in the forest jeeping and hiking, so we had a blast. I figure the hiking probably counts for my exercise, but I did 40 minutes on the treadmill anyways. 11/1: No exercise. 50 oz. April 2006 Bandits November Challenge
*susan* replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Julie and Boo, you continue to amaze me with your running. But, you have inspired me a bit too. No, I am not going to start running tomorrow, it is a major feat that I drag my lazy booty to the treadmill. However, I have been consistently staying around 3.0 on the treadmill. I am going to slowly start increasing the pace. And, I mean slowly. My goal is to be running by New Years. Does anyone have any duct tape? If I am going to try and run, I need something good to hold the girls down so I don't get black eyes. Betty, how long have you had your fill now? What are you able to eat? After Monday, anyone mentions overfill and I go into panick for them. Don't let yourself be so overfilled that you are uncomfortable and sliming and pb'ing a lot. That is definitely not the way to do this. I hope everyone has a great weekend. I just got off the treadmill and am headed to bed. 11/1: No exercise. 50 oz. Water 11/2: 40 minutes treadmill. 48 oz. water (48 is my daily goal) 11/3: 40 minutes treadmill. 60 oz. water 11/4: No exercise, 48 oz. water 11/5: 55 minute fast-paced walk around the neighborhood, 60 oz water <!-- / message -->11/6: None - too miserable from overfill experience. Please help w making decision/flipped port
*susan* replied to lapmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My port flipped and I did not need a new one. My doctor did the procedure in the hospital and I was in and out in no time. I was also not charged a dime for it. He said the same thing, there really isn't anything we can do to prevent this, it is just something that sometimes, rarely, happens. That is why I am so pleased I chose to go with a surgeon close to home. When I need him, he is only 20 minutes away. -
Why can I still eat alot????
*susan* replied to alicat3924's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you are feeling is normal. The time between your surgery and being filled is for healing, not dieting. Most lose litte to no weight during this time, or even gain. Once your swelling goes down from your surgery, you are pretty much wide open like you were prior to getting the band. Just be patient, once you get your fills and reach proper restriction, the weight will come off. -
Welcome to LBT! We are glad you found us. It looks like you are doing fantastic!

Betty, I hope you get your unfill soon, I don't know how you can stand it. I was pb'ing on my own saliva. You must be miserable. 11/1: No exercise. 50 oz. Water 11/2: 40 minutes treadmill. 48 oz. water (48 is my daily goal) 11/3: 40 minutes treadmill. 60 oz. water 11/4: No exercise, 48 oz. water 11/5: 55 minute fast-paced walk around the neighborhood, 60 oz water <!-- / message -->11/6: None - too miserable from overfill experience. Girl, you are doing awesome! I can the difference in the pictures, doesn't it feel great?! I found it took me a while to motivate myself to do exercise, but like you, I now feel bad when I miss. It also still amazes me that when I do, I actually feel more energized afterwards as opposed to being exhausted.
-
Wow, I am wondering why your surgeon is so reluctant to fill you. After all, the band isn't really designed to work without it being properly filled. And, as you lose, you need more fill because the fat around your stomach shrinks and your band becomes looser. That just amazes me. MykdsDad, I call what your wife is doing "going shopping in my closet". I keep things forever and it is fun going to the back of the closet and seeing what I find there. Especially all the clothes with tags still on them that people gave me as gifts that I could never wear because they were too small but now fit.
-
Don't be nervous, I know I was when I went for my first one, I had myself all worked up. Then, when it was all done, I was amazed at how simple it was. I hope you are able to get the restriction you need with one fill. However, remember that with many people, it does take 2-3 fills to reach proper restriction, so don't get discouraged.
-
That is a great NSV for you. I have to agree with the others though, I am an official member of the panyhose hater club too! They are so uncomfortable and guarantee if I put on a pair, it will be run within an hour. I prefer wearing dressy slacks with trouser socks. I am a comfort-minded kind of gal. :success1:
-
Hi and welcome to LBT! As far as your expectations, you will be as successful with the band as you want to be. I do not diet or count calories or anything else. However, I do follow the bandster rules and I listen when my band tells me I am full. I also make a point of making healthier choices. So, as long as you do those things, you should be fine. The band is a wonderful tool and I am thrilled with it. I would like to suggest that you check out the stickies at the top of most of the forums. You will find that they have a ton of valuable information.

I love pizza!! I eat the thin crust pizza from Papa John's and do just fine with it. Thick crust, no way, but thin crust is good. Depending on how restricted I am, I can eat 1 to 1 1/2 pieces in a sitting.
