    April 2006 Bandits' March Challenge

Hi Everyone, I'm Back! Blue, I haven't been on in a while because my computer died and I have to fight to get on the hubby or daughter's. But alas, I have ordered a mac and should have it within a few days. I am not sure what is going on Blue, but I sure hope you get better soon! I have had an interesting past couple of months. I am still experiencing some behind and leg pain, but it has definintely improved and I feel I am up to joining the challenge and starting my exercise again. I may not be able to do as much as you guys are, it will depend on my leg. I had a major overfill in January. I went an entire week without eating! I kept thinking it would get better and I could just wait it out. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I ended up vomiting a lot. Then, I got severly dehydrated and had to be put on IV fluids. And, as if that wasn't bad enough, all that vomiting caused my band to slip. It wasn't a major slip, but a slip none the less. So, I had my fill removed. I went back last week and everything was back where it should be and I am back to being filled again. I am also happy to report that while I did not lose during my time of having no fill, I did not gain and I thought that was a major victory in itself. Anyways, I hope you guys will let me back in, as I need to get back on the program and start seeing that scale drop again. Plus, I just feel really lazy and lacking in energy, so I need you guys to push me!!

Think I am leaving this board

Wow, I haven't been here for a while and come back to major controversy. First off, shouldn't this thread be in the Rants and Raves section? Secondly, I have been on this board for about a year now. Everyone here helped me during the decision process, the surgery, my port flipping and continue to help. I have found nothing but wonderful support and people here. Sure, there are occassionally some less than helpful people, but you are going to find that anywhere you go. Some people just like to stir the pot. As for leaving, if you are not happy, then just leave. Starting a thread just to announce you are unhappy and leaving is being dramatic, in my opinion.

    Fill Poll

Yep, my doctor always takes all the fill out first to make sure the amount that is supposed to be in there is in there and verify I am not leaking or anything.

    ?Financial Software ?

I have never tried MS money. I have used quicken for about 7 years now and have always been very satisfied with it. It also works well for me because I use their tax program as well and everything transfers over wonderfully.

    Cell Phones

I have Cingular and have been happy with them. I switched over to t-mobile, found their coverage and customer service to be severly lacking, so I broke my contract, when back to Cingular and have never looked back.

    MAC or PC

Right now I have a dell laptop, but it is slowly dieing on me. I have started a Mac fund. After doing a lot of research, and talking with people who have switched from PC to Mac and say they would never go back, I have absolutely got to have one. Of course, I am also a major gadget freak. I love all the new techy stuff. My latest toy is a blackberry pearl, and I am loving playing with it too.

    Should the wife come??

She should definitely go with you. Your spouse will be your closest, greatest supporter. The more she understands about what you are going through, the better she will be able to support and help you through your journey.
  8. My biggest mistakes is sometimes I actually forget I have a band. I start eating, and do so like a normal person and take too big of bites too fast. But, that wonderful golfball feeling then quickly reminds me I have a band and to cool it.

    Port tipped/flipped- questions

Hi, my port flipped back in August. The surgery is easy, you are in and out in under 30 minutes. They keep you in recovery for about 30 minutes and then you are on your way back home. I arrived at the hospital at 2:00, had my surgery at 4:00 and was home by 5:30. I did take off the next day, but the day after that I was back to work and not in any pain at all.

  12. Whatabout checking in to some of the services that offer temporary home health aides. That might be something. They would help you get home and settled, and check in on you and take care of any additional needs you have.

Laser hair removel. Has anyone had it???

I tried Vaniqua, my gynecologist prescribed it for me. To be honest, I really didn't notice any difference with it at all. I think for people with minor problems, it might work well, but it just didn't work for my.
  15. Ugh, the dreaded hair growth. I have PCOS, and while losing weight has helped some of my symptoms, I have not noticed any change in my hair growth whatsoever. I am still eternally waxing my upper lip and shaving my chin. I absolutely hate that and have been considering looking into laser hair removal myself lately.
  16. Congratulations on realizing you had a problem, addressing it and getting back on track! You are doing wonderful. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

    Tighter in the morning....

I just had a fill on Monday. Prior to that fill, I was only able to drink a Protein shake in the morning, but by lunchtime, I was good to go. I definitely was much looser come dinner time. However, since getting this fill, I can't even drink anything before noon. I am attempting to get a few spoonfulls of Soup down right now. I have also not been able to each more than a few bites of dinner this week. I am thinking I may need to have a bit taken out. I am giving it till Monday, then if I am still having problems I am calling the doctor.
  18. I always follow what my doctor says, as he knows me personally and knows what is best for me. However, LBT has been wonderful as a support base for me from prior to my surgery up until right now. I have a wonderful and supportive family and friends, and I enjoy my support group. However, the support group only meets once a month. And, as wonderful as my family is, it just helps being able to interact with other people who are experiencing the same things I am.

    band removal

I am curious as to the problems you have encountered as well and what has caused you to decide to have it removed. I got my band last April and have been very pleased with it. I have been losing the recommended 1-2 pounds per week since reaching restriction in July. I too have experienced the occasional discomfort, but nothing that would make me regret having the band. I am so sorry that this is not working out for you.

    Reading memorials

Wow, just one more reason I am so thankful that I chose the band!

    Wish me luck...

It seems like many doctors require different things. I had to have a complete physical, blood work, ekg, sleep apnea study, nutritional consult and psych. eval. It is great that it looks like you will get your insurance to approve the surgery, you are very fortunate. It sounds like you are on your way to bandland. Congrats!

How often do you weigh yourself?

I only weigh once a week, on Sundays. I would go insane with the daily fluctuations otherwise. I keep track of my weight with the desktop version of fitday. I love seeing the graphs and how it does my average weekly loss and predicts where I will be in the future weeks as well.

    Medic Alert ID or not?

I have one, it basically says the same as Jack's and has my doctors name and phone number. I got mine from http://www.laurenshope.com/
