    appetite and the sleeve

Sweets were never an issue for me. I could say no to them without any problem. And now, anything the least little bit sweet actually turns my stomach. My problem has been and still is the crunchy, salty stuff. I love chips and this dip I make more than anything. So, I am forcing myself to avoid those because I am afraid once I start, I won't be able to stop.

    Sleeve scars

Okay, this is odd, because many of us had the same doctor. I don't have any new scars, Dr. Aceves actually used all the same incision spots for my sleeve that he did the band. We even talked about it after my surgery and I commented how pleased I was about that. As for the drain, like the others said, it didn't hurt when they removed it, it was just kind of a weird sensation is all.

    Band to Sleeve People

Solids is going great for me. I can only eat a few bites and am stuffed, but am enjoying what I do eat. I am also happy because I am now able to take larger gulps of water, instead of tiny sips, which is definitely helping with my water intake.
  5. Your welcome, Daisy. I can't believe it has been over a month since I got my sleeve. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me. My family are very much a meat and potatoes kind of family. I used to be as well. They were commenting last night how when I fix my plate, I now completely bypass the potatoes. I am only able to eat a few bites of food, and don't want to waste that on potatoes. I need the hard protein and the veges, and crave that more than anything. It is surprising because I especially used to love to load my plate up with a huge helping of mashed potatoes covered in gravy. Now, it doesn't even appeal to me.

Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

I make a very loud, obnoxious kind of hiccup sound when I have, as my family says, "reached capacity". It is quite embarassing.

Fanny, sorry to hear about that. Like everyone else, I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you. Ten warrants, wow, these must be wonderful people. I am so happy to be at work right now with some A/C. I have the people coming at 5:00 tonight to hopefully get it fixed at home, and hopefully for a minimal amount of pain to my checkbook! My ideal weather would be around 75-78 year around. To me, that is perfect. I was born in Michigan, but moved to Florida when I was 13, so have spent most of my life here. I really cannot take the cold. If it gets much below 65, I am freezing. Folks, we musn't let this thread die.

Ugh, we are hitting the 80's here. I got home, walked in the house and it was liking walking into a sauna it was so hot. So, I sauntered my way over to the thermostat to turn the air on and .... nothing, absolutely nothing!!! Guess I will be having a visit from the A/C people tomorrow.

    Miss California and Gay marriage

Wow, I am seeing a lot of "hate", "dislike" or whatever else you want to call it in this thread. It really is very sad that some of the posts I am seeing here are on the verge of grade school level. Please remember, you are welcome to attack ideas, but not people. If you find that you truly dislike a particular members way of posting, you have the option of either blocking that person, or simply not returning to the thread, especially if it is a thread they started. However, launching all out attacks on a particular person, with chants to block that person, is not acceptable. Please stay on topic and be respectful of one another so I am not forced to close this thread. Thank you.
  10. I just gently cleaned my drainage site with a clean washcloth and antibacterial soap every day and covered it with new gauze after each cleaning. Other than that, I didn't mess with it. At one point, I thought I might have an infection because green stuff was coming out, but Dr. Campos said that was normal. I think mine took right at two weeks to close up.

    Band to Sleeve People

Tiff, wow, what an awful story. I am so sorry you had to go through that. Your doctor sounds terrible. I am glad that you are getting things taken care of and going to the sleeve. You will be much happier. WASa, love that tip. I used to keep the small tupperware bowls that were for fruit in my car for those lovely PB's while driving down the road. You have no idea how glad I am that I don't have to deal with that anymore.
  12. Yesterday we went to the World of Nations downtown. It is a cultural type festival where nations from all around the world are represented. They sell items from their country, put on shows of traditional dance and of course, sell food native to their country. Normally, when we go to this, I absolutely gorge myself on food. Not this year. I took a nibble here and there of things my family got and was more than satisified without feeling like I had overdone it. Having this amount of control is wonderful. The other thing was I finally found something I can drink. I cannot drink milk anymore, it completely makes me sick to my stomach. I used to love Gatorade, not anymore, it is sickenly sweet to me. Crystal Light tasted funny to me. Water is okay, but I do like something with a little flavor. I drank some lemonade and it was the first thing that didn't taste funny to me. So, I bought some minute made light lemonade to keep at home for when I want something with a little flavor to it. I don't know why my tastes changed so drastically. I was getting frustrated because everything I drank seemed to leave such a funny aftertaste in my mouth. The other thing I noticed, when I had my band, everything had to be at room temperature. Now, everything has to be very, very cold with lots of ice. It is just odd to me some of the changes I have experienced since getting my sleeve. The temperature of what I drink, my milk intolerance, my lack of tolerance for sweet things, etc.

Soda, skins, pills and the sleeve

I got the survey and completed it. Seeing Dr. Aceves didn't do my band, I had no issue being honest with how I felt about it. Daisy, I don't remember seeing anything about the soda in my paperwork either. But, I do remember Dr. Campos telling me the day before my surgery that I shouldn't drink it.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

Wow, it sounds like you are doing great! And here you were, worried. You sailed through this like it was nothing girl. I am very impressed.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

I wasn't going to tell you how bad that "battery acid" stuff tasted, but I think you hit it right on the head. That stuff was just awful. And, I could hardly swallow as it was. I came very close to bringing it back up, it was nasty. Glad you are doing so well.

Crazy question about 20 years from now

My mom had a kind of accidental gastrectomy thirty years ago. She had some sort of medical problem, of which I don't even remember because I was so young, and ended up losing 75% of her stomach as a result. Within a year, she was thin and never regretted losing it. To this day, she can only eat a small quantity of food and has never had any other medical complications as a result of losing her stomach.
  17. Wow, you guys are vicious! I will follow your lead. Official Update: As of today, I have lost 26 pounds! Loving this, loving eating with my coworkers without fear of choking up my food, loving my clothes getting loose and loving life!
  18. I told them I would have no problem posting my experience in multiple locations. I told them I would not lie to anyone about why I was no longer going there.

Soda, skins, pills and the sleeve

I have something good to say about my band... It is sitting on my dresser collecting dust and no longer inside of me, YAY! WasA, when are we going to have that band burning party?

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

It really doesn't hurt when they pull they drain out. You feel a little pull, but it is more of a weird feeling than anything.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

Hey Daisy, glad to hear you are doing so well. I am amazed at how well you are doing with your liquids. I am still having just an awful time with that. Keep us posted on how things are going.

You were going to throw the milk at her?? I love it!! Plain, you absolutely crack me up. I cannot do a technology free hour, let alone weekend. Brandy, sorry it went so long. After just returning to work after having been out for the better part of April, I got insanely behind and haven't been on as much as I normally am due to trying to get caught up. I promise, we will do a better job of staying on top of things.
  23. Actually, the doctor is the one who stated their practice now felt threatened by me. Later that day, they did call me back saying one of the other doctors agreed to see me, but by then I was over them.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

Agreed, the pain really is minimal. I think I wanted to sleep twice as much because I had surgery on Thursday and Friday! I am still amazed at Elisabethsew, she looked like she could have walked out of the hospital and gone back to work the next day.

    Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

True, Vegas. Unfortunately, sleep was all I wanted to do the first two days after my surgery. My hubby kept waking me up telling me how good Elisabethsew was being with her walking and that I needed to follow her example, lol.
